Ron’s Column:

A week or so ago, we were studying John 3 at our Hispanic Bible Study. That particular lesson began with John 3:16, the Golden Text of the Bible. I talked a lot about God. Then I talked a lot about love, God’s love. We are all sinners. We have all let God down so many times and disappointed Him and maybe even hurt Him. But God does not have the attitude that I’m going to severely discipline these people. I’m going to humble them and punish them and break them. No, His method of dealing with us is, “I’m going to love them.” His attitude is that He wants the best for us. All that He does is for our sake. Isn’t that amazing, even mind blowing? God is not a cruel king that treats us like lowly slaves who are not worth much. God is the father in the story of the prodigal son and He won’t be happy until His children come home. He longs for humans to come home. He does all He can to persuade and entice them to come into His loving presence. John 3:16 tells us of the width of God’s love. God loves the world. . .everybody, everywhere. He loves the good and the bad, the unlovely and the unlovable, the ones who love Him and the ones who never think about Him, the ones who have run into His loving presence and those who simply reject His love and even fight against Him. God offers and even shows His love to everyone. Augustine wrote: “God loves each of us as if there was only one of us to love.” We love reading John 3:16 about God’s love and eternal life, but we need to read on. Verse 17 says: “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him (Jesus). Then verse 18 says: “Whoever believes in Jesus is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” Jesus is God’s greatest expression and demonstration of His love for mankind. If we reject God’s son, we reject Him and that’s not a very smart thing to do. If my son died for you in your place and then you acted as if you could care less, I would not be happy, not happy at all. Jesus died for us, in our place, taking the punishment for our sins upon Himself. If we do not appreciate that, if we are not tremendously thankful for that, if we are not humbled by that, if that wasn’t a life-changing experience for us, then something is terribly wrong and punishment is coming, not because God wanted that to happen, but because you chose your own destiny. You rejected His amazing love.

Still In His Service, Ron Payne

Welcome to the Family!

We are excited to announce the Red Brush Family grew by two more souls last month! Seth & Alisha Williams have been attending RBCC for quite some time now, and they decided to make it official on Sunday, January 21st. Seth transferred his membership & Alisha was baptized into Christ that day. What a wonderful blessing to see this young couple following God together! Congratulations to you both & welcome to the family! We’re so glad to have you!
