Dedication to Jesus

Lord Jesus Christ, take all my freedom,

my memory, my understanding, and my will.

All that I have and cherish you have given me.

I surrender it all to be guided by Your will.

Your grace and Your love are wealth enough for me.

Give me these, Lord Jesus, and I ask for nothing more.

Amen. - St. Ignatius of Loyola

BULLETIN INSERT

The Presentation of the Lord

“We too are called to welcome Jesus who comes to meet us. To encounter him: the God of life is to be encountered every day of our lives; not now and then, but every day. To follow Jesus is not a decision taken once and for all, it is a daily choice.” —Pope Francis, Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, 2019

The Presentation of Jesus in the temple shows him to be the firstborn Son who belongs to the Lord. With Simeon and Anna, all Israel awaits its encounter with the Savior—the name given to this event in the Byzantine tradition. Jesus is recognized as the long-expected Messiah, the “light of the nations” and the “glory of Israel,” but also “a sign that is spoken against.” The sword of sorrow predicted for Mary announces Christ’s perfect and unique oblation on the cross that will impart the salvation of God has “prepared in the presence of all peoples” (CCC, no. 529).

World Day for Consecrated LifeIn 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peo-ples. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life and be sure to thank them on their spe-cial day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God’s gift of their vocation.
