Logan was nominated by Dr. Connie Mariano, the Medical Director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists to represent Glasgow High School based on his academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine. During the three-day Congress, Logan Gunderson will join students from across the country and hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science Winners talk about leading medical research;be given advice from Ivy League and top medical school deans on what is to expect in medical school;witness stories told by patients who are living medical miracles; be inspired by fellow teen medical science prodigies; and learn about cutting-edge advances and the future in medicine and medical technology. This is a crucial time in America when we need more doctors and medical scientists who are even better prepared for a future that is changing exponentially, said Richard Rossi, Executive Director, National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. Focused, bright and determined students like Logan Gunderson are our future and he deserves all the mentoring and guidance we can give him. The Academy offers free services and programs to students who want to be physicians or go into medical science. Some of the services and programs the Academy offers are online social networks through which future doctors and medical scientists can communicate; opportunities for students to be guided and mentored by physicians and medical students; and communications for parents and students on college acceptance and finances, skills acquisition, internships, career guidance and much more.

  • Hello again from Helena. It is 6:30 a.m. in my office as this article is being written (Monday, February 16). People are coming through the Capitol doors in droves and we hear there will be seven busloads of folks coming and over a thousand in attendance and for what? It is the hearing for the CSKT treaty on the water compact between the Salish and Kootenai tribes and the state of Montana. This treaty will cost millions of dollars and will have ramifications for most of all of Montana concerning water rights. Stay tuned! My SB247 bill on the stopping of hunting sage grouse passed the Senate last week and now goes to the House. If passed this would halt hunting for the bird for 6 years and let us evaluate what hunting does to this sage grouse. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is blackmailing Montana on this issue and it is a taking of private property rights. There is no shortage of this bird in Montana. The Feds WILL NOT even look at predation by birds of prey and small four legged animals on this issue and farmers and ranchers see this happening all the time. This is just another attempt by the Federal Government and environmentalists to regulate land use and stop development of our natural resources in this country.

Senator Brenden reporting SB200 by Sen. Ankney passed the Senate and now will go to the House. This is a bill to cut income tax and if it comes out of the House it will be interesting to see if the Governor will sign it. I will bet he WILL NOT! My Senate Joint Resolution SJ9 passed the Senate. This is a Senate/House Resolution stating we in the Legislature do not like the fact that over $700 billion was taken out of Medicare/Medicaid to fund Obamacare and it has serious consequences to seniors such as healthcare issues and costs. This resolution will be sent to Congress. As the session draws to a midpoint, more serious issues arise and can affect Montana citizens. I hope we can respond in a positive way. All for now and I will visit with you next week. ~ Sen. John C. Brenden
