Bomag’s new generation of the compact BW 124-5 singledrum vibratory roller series are available in both smooth(BW 124 DH-5) and padfoot (BW 124 PDH-5) drum con-figurations. With their 47.2-in. (119 cm) drum width andtight turning radius of just 88.2 in. (224 cm), these new com-pact single drum rollers are ideal for granular and cohesivesoil compaction on congested jobsite applications such asbackfill, landscaping, trench work or pipeline construction.They are the only single drum rollers in the weight class tofeature dual pump drive, which allow them to climb up to 55percent grades, according tothe manufacturer.

The intuitive Bomag Economizer compaction measure-ment system now available for the BW 124-5 series rolleroffers a higher level of compaction control not available onprior models. The cost-effective Economizer alerts operatorsof soil compaction progress, reducing passes and saving timeand money. It requires no calibration to reliably deliver real-time compaction progress. As the degree of compactionincreases, the more LED lights on the Economizer light stripilluminate and indicate when optimum compaction isachieved. The system also warns operators of potential over-compaction as well as allows for the identification of “soft”spots in the material.

A new-style ROPS/FOPS structure advances safe opera-tion of the BW 124-5 series roller. The new 4-post structuresafeguards the operator from machine roller-over and fallingobject situations. This new design enhances the operator’s360-degree view around the machine.

A new, simplifiedmethod for control-ling the optionalleveling bladereplaces the

previous foot pedal with a multifunctional travel lever at theoperator’s fingertips for blade movements. The blade fea-tures standard up/down function with available float positionor tilt function. The flexible blade options expand the rangeof applications for the BW 124-5 series roller to includematerial distribution, profiling and leveling, all common-place in construction and landscaping applications.

The 46-hp (34.3 kW) water-cooled diesel engine nowpowering the Bomag BW 124-5 series meets stringent TierIV Final/Stage IV emissions standards. The smooth drumBW 124 DH-5 offers a 0.67-in. (1.7 cm) amplitude, whilethe padfoot BW 124 PDH-5 a 0.63-in.
