AIDS or Auto Immune Deficiency Syndrome has come a long way. This syndrome caused by the HIV Virus was said to be originated from West African monkeys or chimpanzees during which humans do their hunting. It was only in the 80’s that strange complications and types of cancer and pneumonia was observed in men that HIV-AIDS was recognized.
Later that year, it was found out that it can be transmitted sexually, through blood transfusion and breastfeeding. It was only 1987 that CANFAR was founded, the very first anti-retroviral drug. On December 1, 1988, the first World AIDS Day was held to bring out awareness and prevention to the world.
AIDS was described to be caused by Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). When a person becomes infected with HIV, the virus attacks and weakens the immune system. As the immune system weakens, the person is at risk of getting life-threatening infections and cancers. When that happens, the illness is called AIDS. Once a person has the virus, it stays inside the body for life (https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/000594.htm).
I was honored to know one AIDS victim, and though it seems that their lives are tainted with stigma and doomed for death, she remained strong and empowered. Yes, AIDS made her world smaller, but she taught herself to see the light in these dark times and made herself an inspiration to other AIDS victim that even if they are sick, they can function well in the community, as long as they take responsibility of their health and wellness.
World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in
the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day (https://www.worldaidsday.org/about/).
Mohammad Dossary Hospital joined the world in celebrating the World’s AIDS Day. This participation do not only mean that we are advocating health awareness and disease prevention or putting the AIDS stigma to the past but, we support the World AIDS Day Organization’s aim remind the public and government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.

SERVICE WITH A SMILE
The Nursing Department headed by Miss Frances Irene Quino, Director of Nursing and Miss Renelen Rivera Dualan, Nursing Educator, put in their efforts to facilitate a lecture on Customer Service ion Healthcare. With much brainstorming, they came up with a brilliant idea of not only targeting nurses for this lecture but as well as other departments giving services to Mohammad Dossary Hospital clients.
These efforts lead them to the man they knew can deliver at its best. Mr. Arlene Navarro, the Assistant Project Manager and Chief Nursing Officer of Dar As Sihha Medical Center. He is likewise a Certified Trainer/Lecturer and Mentor of the American Institute of Management. Moreover, he is the past President of the Philippine Nurses Association here in the Eastern Region, KSA.
The expected small crowd grew brig and fill-in the Conference Roopm, which I must say signifies the MDH Employees and Administration’s desire for improvement.
Mohammad Dossary Hospital is a very humble institution that was known because of how they provide service. In our early years, where technology and facilities were scarce, MDH was sought pout because of how theirDoctors, Nurses and Managers make their clients feel special. Along the years MDH grew into something great and whilst this growth commemorates, ourcustomer service skills should remain excellent and should be aim greater heights.
The lecture started with simple yet the most practical concept of customer service being the cheapest and most affordable marketing strategy dated, and which in fact can start with a simple smile. It went on to emphasizing the importance of positivity, reception, communication, listening and feedback. The topic was so relatable that our Duty Manager, Mr. Emad Al-Doki interacted quite well.
All in all, the event was successful; it is of great appreciation to our CEO, Dr. Suliman Dafalla Babiker, our Career Development Officer, Esraa Al-Saqa and all our Department Heads, Unit Heads and Managers for supporting our cause and our advocacy for a better MDH. Lastly, it is with pride that we recognize the patience and fortitude of pour dear Nurses who always keep their calm and bring out their best smiles every single day.

When the cold winds rush and touch your skin, when its
crisp sensation of frost bites through your pores, like walking
along the streets of Paris on a winter night… Dreamy…but
hey not all winters are romantic, sometimes, they’re a pain.
Cold weather goes well with some health problems and
maladies. So what are these common maladies and how do
we prevent them?
ColdsPrevent colds by maintaining correct hand hygiene.
Hand washing is the single most effective way of killing
microorganism that causes colds and flu. When someone
have flu, make sure they drink 8 to 10 glasses of water every
day and bulk up on vegetables and fruits.
Sore throatSore throats are common in winter and are almost
always caused by viral infections. It’s said that changes in
temperature, such as going from a warm, centrally heated
room to the icy outdoors, affects the throat. Home remedy?
Gargle with warm saline water (Dissolve one teaspoon
of salt in a glass of part-cooled boiled water), as its anti-
inflammatory properties can sooth the pain, redness and
inflammation. Nevertheless, go visit a doctor.
AsthmaAsthma symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of
breath are very often during cold seasons. Doctors would
tell individuals suffering from asthma top stay indoors during
very cold, windy days. Tip, warm yourself up with scarfs and
make sure asthma medications come in handy.
Painful jointsGranny’s would usually hate winter, ‘tis the season of joint
pain and inflammation. Most people with arthritis say their
joints become more painful and stiff in winter, though it›s
not clear why this is happening. However, daily exercise
can make a difference, so make it a point to stretch those
muscles and get away with pain.
Winter Feels
Cold soresCold sores are a sign that individuals are under stress. While
there›s no cure for cold sores, it is advisable that people get
hot baths, and munch on vegetable and fruits.
Dry skinDry skin is a very common condition during the winter or when
the humidity is low. Have warm, rather than hot, showers and
make sure to follow it up with moisturizing breams or agents.
FluFlu is everywhere and for susceptible individuals, flu can be
deadly. This is the perfect time to think about getting a flu
vaccine, because it dramatically lessens the probability of
getting the illness. Likewise, it’ll be very helpful to drink 8- 10
glasses of water every day and eat a healthy nutritious meal.
