A beautiful fellowship

for older adults began

in 1979 under the lead-

ership of Dr. Johnnie

Mae Brown from the

Joseph Campau

Church of God in De-

troit, Michigan and

Reverend Vera Jones, president of

the "Senior Saints" at First Church

of God in Toledo, Ohio. When the

fellowship started, the group would

meet once a year for a day of activi-

ties that would alternate between

Detroit and Toledo.

In 1986, the Older Adult Inter-

state Mini-Convention was formed

and activities were extended to a two

-day event. The group began hold-

ing its activities in hotels in 1987,

with the first being held at the Hill-

crest Hotel in Toledo, Ohio. Word

about this dynamic group of seniors

began to spread abroad. The con-

vention grew to include delegates

from Akron, Cleveland, Columbus

and Evanston, as well as cities in

California, Michigan, Indiana, New

Jersey, and Washington D.C.

Through out the years the con-

vention has attracted outstanding

conference leaders and speakers,

which include Dr. Alvin and Juanita

Lewis, Dr. Langston Bannister, Otis

and Johnnie Mae Brown, Lawrence

P. Wyatt, Peggy Moore, Dr. Shirley

B. Cathie, Dr. Robert A. Culp, Rev.

Sethard Beverly, Dr. Ronald Fowler,

George Marshall, David Lunn, Pearl

Shields, Frank Wilson, Nobles and

Emma Darby, Annie Ayers, Horace

Germany, Mary Peoples Deboe, Rita

Joyce Johnson, Edward T. Cook and

many many more. ■
