with reference to F, D, HENNESSY, who was a witness __to the marriage of FRED DODD and FEARL ALLEN, as it isnoted in Portland letter to Chicago 10/29/57, the 1913 PortlandCity Directory lists FRANK D. HENNESSY, lawyer, 701 Chamberof Commerce Building, residence H10 13th Street, Portland,The 1915 and 1916 Portland City Directories list FRANK D,HENNESSY, wife, THERESA B.! as clerk, District Court,Portland, he being shown as clerk of Department 5, CircuitCourt, in 1915. ,

B MultnomahOn 2/19/5 LCounty Clerk's Office, Multnomah County Court ouse, advisedthat he has been employed in the County Clerk's office invarious capacities since 1921, called that W,N, caress, Circuit Judge, who marr e and PEARL ALLEN!,died a few months after Judge GATENS we ated for re-election to office in about 1923, recalled thatwhile GATENS was a Circuit Judge he was assigned to Department#5, tated that he was unable to recall F, D,HENNES or D, HENNESSY as having been either a

Circuit Court Clerk, or a practicing attorney, wpointed out it was quite likely from the facts r athat HEHNESSY was a Circuit Court Clerk in Department 5,in which dppartment W, N, GATENS was Judge in l91H,

urther stated that it appears quite likelyF, D. HE . was called upon by the Jud t ct as a -witness to the marriage in question. st:-zted thatthis has been a common_practice over t e years. From the facta outlined above there is no reason

to believe that any purpose would be served in attemptingto locate any acquaintances of HENNESSY to ascertainwhether they have any hncwledge of FRED DODD, Furthereffort in this direction therefore, is not beine

madP.

It is noted there is no indication in old citydirectoriea that FPQNK F, HENESSV e""r "Prved in a lamoffice with other attorneyo. It is alao noted that the 1926Portland Pity Directory, lists FRANK D; HENNESSY, wite,'I'H!TPE-S131 B, . as an engineer, 'B92JY'F='=U 0* ~?'t'=*'* Jerks, POI'1i18I'1d,

Peference is made to the requet that long timeresidents in the legal Pield n hoth Portland and Salem becontacted for any information they might possess COnP°n1ngDODD and/or PEARL ALLEN. This request ia based vpon thealleged Pact that WRLLIE FORD had stated his Oregon marriagewas followed by a bitter eegaration after which he was"unable to obtain a divorce , which might indicate someother form of legal action. Any consideration given to thislead would be based upon the assumption that QQDD orALLEN had instituted action under the name of DODD, sincethis was the name under which they were married. As wasindicated in Portland letter dated 10/29/5?, a completesearch was made_of the Djyorcg Indices for MultnomahCount b SA on 10/22/57, covering the periodfrom Sly/23114 1 There was no record whateverof any divorce action having ever been instituted by oragainst a FRED DODDL It is noted records of the Bureau ofvital Statiatica,'0regon State Board of health, reflect onlyactual divorcea.granted mather than the filing of complaintsfor divorce, It"is pointed out in Portland letter toChicago, 12/31/5?, a check made of the records of MarionCounty Clerk's Office,_Sa1em, Oregon, failed to reflect anyrecord of a divorce involvgg W, D. FORD, FRED DODD, PEARLALLEN or PEARL DODD, Since there is no item of recordindicating any divorce.conplaint was ever filed againstor by FRED DOQD inquiry does not appear warranted amonglong time reaidenta in the legal field concerning thebitter separation" of DODD and PEARL ALLEN, which separationwould have taken place some 35 to #0 years ago.

Concerning the check of Salem City Directories andMarion County tar lists, reference to which is made inPortland letter dated 1/9/58, it is pointed out the checkof records included the name FRED DODD.

It is recalled the records concerning the marriagefo PEARL ALLEN to FRED noon on it/20/11¢, indicated that PEARLALLEN of Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, was then abouteighteen years of age, It is assumed PEARL ALLEN was themaiden name of this woman although this is not specificallyindicated. Examination of Portland City Directroies issuedduring the years between 1912 and 1929, failed to reflectany woman was listed under the name of PEARL ALLEN, Thedirectories were also checked for the years 1915 to 1999for any record of PEARL DODD without any results. It isnoted the Portland City Directories issued for the years1952, 1953, 195M, 1955, and 1957, likewie were checked forany record of either PEARL LLLEN or PEARL DODD but no suchname was listed,

It is noted as to MARY E, MORENO, one of the witnesses

to the marriage of FRED DODD and PEARL ALLEN, Portland CityDirectories issued between 1913 and 1957, contain only onepossible reference to her, same being the 1915 City Directoryas indicated previously in Portland letter dated 10/29/5?,
