Entry #1 Women’s Wear Daily- July 10, 2013Stricter EU Legislation Targets Cosmetics Safety

In this article, they were pretty much mentioning how in the cosmetic industry

they would be adding more detailed safety requirements and labels. That means that from

now on manufacturers have to follow very strict guidelines to evaluate the safety of

certain products. I think it makes everything beneficial to not only the manufacturer but

the consumer as well. The consumer can safely explore all the options they have and be

informed and assured that the products are safe. The manufacturers benefit from this a lot

more because they get to avoid any/ all legal problems that could be involved with

leaving out certain information. This something smart Europe is doing I guess they

must’ve done this because they have been improving the cosmetics industry.

(Entry #2 businessweek.com- September 17, 2013)Managing the Technology of Fashion

I picked this article because it was something that is currently very important and

how it affects the fashion industry. It starts off by saying that in the past many fashion

designers relied on luck in guessing what people wanted before they wanted it. But

nowadays there are so many ways to accurately understand that target market and the

ways to reach out to them as well. Macy’s now has it own group that monitors any/all

activity that goes on the Internet. Times are quickly changing and if you own your own

store you’ve got to change with it as well in order to be successful. Gathering information

off the Internet can help people predict upcoming fashion trends. Finally, future fashion

industry employees should have an understanding of new upcoming software and reading

data analytics.

(Entry #3 Vogue)Trends A-Z Spring-Summer 2013

Vogue usually draws in these trends based off what they see coming off the

catwalk. So when I was going through the pictures one of the things I had to agree with

hands down was the use of prints and solid bright colors. When I immediately saw that

Louis Vuitton picture with the contrast of black and white I realized how often I would

see walking down the street. I would remember walking into a Forever 21 and seeing a

small space dedicated to black & white whether it is stripes, polka dot, or plaid. Another

trend I noticed was the inverted heel (if you could walk in them) you would be wearing

them. Although looking through some of these I did find some trends that I never saw

anyone wear. It just goes to show that not everything a magazine tells us is trendy.

A current fashion trend that I’ve been noticing would the contrast between faux

leather and another type of fabric. For example, I recently bought a pair of jeans that was

a mix of leather and jean fabric I’ve also seen shirts with leather shoulder pads. But with

the changing of the season one of things I’ve also noticed was how much layering up we

all do especially with the use of those “oversized” sweaters and large colorful scarves.

Obviously, I am taking into consideration that the weather is actually forcing us all to

dress in this type of way and in reality it does make it comparable when woman over the

summer wear tank tops and shorts. But I really do believe that people are making more of

an effort to look fashionable even though the weather gets in the way of that. I remember

a while ago scarves would be something you put on when you were outside and take off

once you were inside but now it looks better to have them on all the time. So summer and

winter clothes are similar in the sense that it is only appropriate to wear it during that

specific season. It’s different because the type of clothing associated during these seasons

can’t be interchangeable for example one wouldn’t wear a bikini when its below zero or

wear a thick jacket when its 100 degrees outside. I personally like this seasons styles they

make it easier to dress up or down for specific occasions.

(Entry #5/6)

The department store that I chose was Macy’s and the five trends that I found were.

Trend #1: I was in the women’s department when I saw a big puffy hooded white jacket. Other jackets surrounded it as well. They put the jackets that are on sale towards the back while the ones that are on regular price are towards the front. Another thing I noticed was that really close nearby was the accessories that would go with it. So I saw hats, gloves, and scarves close to it.

Trend #2:When I was looking at the different scarves I saw a knitted grey scarf and also noticed that it was right by the handbags. It made me realize that everything is just a big domino affect. Things are strategically placed near each other so that we are persuaded to literally complete the entire outfit. It means we end up spending more and they end up making more money.

Trend #3: In the juniors section I saw printed sweaters the specific sweater I was looking at was a knitted printed cream sweater with blue and white designs on it. I saw that these were near shirts that you could easily wear under these sweaters.

Trend #4: In the men’s section I saw that Levi jeans (I know those never go out of style) were on full display for everyone to see they were all grouped together with the other jeans. They were placed near each other.

Trend #5: The superhero logo printed shirts were located right near the jeans. I thought it seemed appropriate to do in order to complete the whole outfit. The superhero shirts are the latest trends for both men and women.

Trend #1: So I was correct when it cam to winter season being puffy coats I saw a lot of neutral colors.

Trend #2: Layering up was something that many countries are doing such as England.

Trend #3: Many celebrities are seen wearing shirts with animals on them like lions and cats.

Trend #4: I couldn’t find Levis jeans for men but jeans are very present in the attire for men. Trend #5: I also didn’t see any super hero shirts being very popular on this site.

Color Trend #1: The first color that I think was a trending color was this bright fuchsia color. Bright lively colors were something I always saw that would be paired up with a neutral color.

Fabric #1 (Description)

Mystic Stain 100% polyester country of origin: Saudi Arabia

Color Trend #2: The second color trend was emerald green I thought it was a very powerful color for fall.

Fabric #2 (Description) Silk 100% polyester country of origin: China

Color Trend #3: The final color trend was dark blue according to Pantone (my source) they referred to it as Morocco Blue. Either way it’s a color one can never go wrong with.

Fabric #3: (Description)

Cotton made in China

Trends I believe will happen in the future: For the next two seasons I predict that flower patterns especially on dresses will

make a comeback Light cardigans on dresses will be trendy Pastel colors will be seen on shirts and pants

Trends in different countries currently:

In men’s fashion in Italy the statement scarf is a must have it connects to the layering up we have to do this season

Israel- Many women are into wearing loose fitting denim Berlin- They are in the “hipster phase”

What I loved about this Anthropology display case was the fact that it was Christmas themed. This display case I found to be just a little bit humorous since it’s supposed to be winter but I see a spring/summer type of dress in the display case. The only wintery aspect that is added is the scarf. The orange ensemble works perfectly.

Page 9: Fashion journal (MA)

In this Macy’s display case they feature three models and in comparison to the other picture these models look like they are dressed for winter. There seems to be a general theme with similar looking jackets and the red color that each one is wearing. Both of them seem to be wearing furry boots as well.

A movie that I saw that I thought had great and amazing fashion all around was

2013’s The Great Gatsby. I understand that this is a period piece movie and it takes place

in the 1920’s however one of things that very much stood out to me was bright, beautiful,

and luxurious looking clothes that were worn for this movie. I did more research to find

out where the costume designer for this movie got all the dresses; most of the women’s

dresses were Prada. One of the things I noticed throughout the film were the head pieces

(worn by Daisy one of the main characters) I feel like head bands are going to make a

come back. Another thing I noticed Daisy wear was floral print I feel like floral print is a

classic that one can never go wrong with. Great Gatsby is the prime example of how

good fashion can simply be timeless all around. I would love to wear some of those

dresses nowadays.

A designer I chose was Elie Saab I’ve been a fan of his for such a long time.

Many of his dresses are seen during the red carpet of any event my personal favorite was

the lilac dress Mila Kunis wore to Oscars back in 2010. Anyway, the collection I looked

was his latest 2014 Spring/ Summer line I noticed that many of his gowns displayed

many solid colors like pink, white, and green. Towards the end there were black and

white dresses with tints of bright colors. Which were featured in floral prints they were

stylish and could go well with the new trends. Elie Saab is known for having very unique

and dynamic dresses. All his dresses look very flattering and could appeal to a wide

variety of people. If he dresses could be sold at a cheaper price I can see them going into

stores like Nordstrom, Carson’s, and Macy’s.

Fashion Designer:

The responsibilities of a fashion designer include being creative when it comes to

sketching out designs. They have to have knowledge about what type of fabrics work

with what kind of designs. They have to have an idea of what is going on currently in

fashion world in terms of what they can or cannot use. Fashion designers should also

know how to sew in order to put together the idea they created on paper.

Fashion Buyer:

A fashion buyer’s responsibility is to have knowledge about the fashion world.

They have the difficult task of choosing what types of clothing/accessories are going to

be stocked. They have prior knowledge of who the target market is a lot of things can go

wrong. For example, mini skirts would not be something a lot of conservative 50-60 year

old women would want to wear. They have to make predications of what consumers

would like to buy and work closely with other people to make sure the consumer keeps

coming back.

Product Development Manager:

The responsibility a product development manager has is working closely with a

company in being charge of doing whatever they can to generate sales. They keep track

of how products are selling and what products are needed to sell more. They keep track

of customer’s wants and needs. This job goes towards a whole marketing standpoint to

basically monitor any progression in sales.

Fashion Don’t #1: Dress appropriately for your own ageMen/Women alike should know that better when it comes to dressing up something that looks good on a twenty year old might not look right on 50 year old. It works vice versa as well a twenty year old shouldn’t be dressing like a grandmother looking all matronly and such (they should be classy nevertheless but not look drab)

Fashion Don’t: Major fashion don’t is over accessorizing sometimes the smallest details are something that really completes the whole outfit. If you over accessorize you will draw attention to places you don’t want to draw attention to.

Page 14: Fashion journal (MA)

Fashion “Do”: Knowing how to dress yourself so it can flatter your body just because it looks good on someone else doesn’t mean it’ll look good on you.Know your body and know what looks good on you a great outfit can put together on whatever body shape as long as it appropriately fits YOU.

Fashion “Do”: Take chances in fashion the risk taker are the ones that come out on top playing it safe is way to boring nowadays. Being happy and comfortable in what you wear radiating that confidence will make any outfit “pop”.

A career choice I was considering doing was being a fashion journalist it was one

of things that caught my attention the most. It combines the two things that I love writing

and fashion. I would get to report on anything related to the fashion industry and I could

interview people as well. I also think of this job as being a fashion critic where I am free

to voice my opinion on whatever I report on. Ultimately, all of this leading up to working

in a fashion magazine like Vogue, Maire Claire, and Vanity Fair.

I’m taking a marketing class and I’m really enjoying it I am also considering being some

type of marketing executive for a company. I would enjoy keeping track sales and

coming up with marking plans to keep the company on the rise. I would be able to work

for any powerhouse brand like Vera Wang, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, etc. Any company

would need a marketing executive to keep a business running they play a key role

making/losing profit margin.

I’m also taking a public relations class that is very fun and I could see myself

doing in the future. A publicist worries about and takes care of anything relating to a

brands image and making sure a company is seen in a good light at all times. They get to

handle any issue with the press. They have the responsibility of building a brand name

and how consumers perceive it (in terms of logos and who is the face of the company).

They carefully manage how to communicate information and take care of customer

complaints.
