• Benito Mussolini rose to power in 1922.
• Causes:• Many Italians were unhappy with the
Treaty of Versailles (didn’t receive territories)
• Conflicts with Marxist in Italy

What was the appeal?Strength through unity; people all working
together.Creation of a strong nation capable of
dealing with economic problems.
Some of the realities
Individual freedoms sacrificed in favour of having a strong nation.
Fascist regimes were anti-liberal, anti-capitalist, anti-communist, and anti-conservative.
Difference was discouraged.Pressure to conform.
