Accomplishment is defined as “Excellence” and “Effectiveness”
• Excellence – requires outward facing contributions and impact
• External to division/department/institution • Depends on rank and area of accomplishment
• Effectiveness – requires inward facing contributions and impact
• Within division/department/institution• Depends on rank and area of accomplishment

Criteria• Criteria for excellence/effectiveness are the same
for each area of accomplishment across all tracks
• Expectations of excellence/effectiveness in each area of accomplishment varies across tracks– Tenure line – Excellent in investigation + 1 other;
effectiveness in 2 remaining areas– Clinical track – Excellent in 2 areas; effectiveness in 2
remaining areas– Research track – Excellent in investigation

Excellence in Investigation requires scholarship, as defined by durable disseminationoutside the institution and cumulative impact.
Effectiveness requires participation in investigation projects that have impact and are disseminated. Authorship is not required*.

Award of Tenure
• A cumulative body of work that demonstrates overall excellence with demonstrable impact
• An important criterion for the award of tenure is the confidence that the faculty member will continue sustained excellence in investigation leading to scholarship

Promotion to Professor
• Addition – Body of work that has changed practice,
understanding, process or methods in their field/area of excellence

dissemination and scholarship in your areas of excellence as well as your efforts contributing to effectiveness in specific areas
