Two Baths… One Solution!Think bathroom exhaust fans haveto be loud to be effective?
Think again.Do bathroom fans have to sound like a wind tunnel to get the job
done? The truth is, noisy bathroom exhaust fans loose much of their
effectiveness, simply because people don’t want to use them. So, odor,
moisture, mold and mildew build up. Even the most elegant bathrooms
become unattractive, and may suffer long-term damage.
Fantech bathroom exhaust fans are designed to operate quietly and ef-
fectively, so people actually use them. Yet their affordability means they’re
right for every bathroom—from simple to luxurious.
Requested by clients.Specified by designers. You’ll find Fantech bathroom exhaust fans specified on the blueprints
of top architects and designers.
Why? Simple. They’re quiet, efficient and reliable, and they’re easy to
install. Better still, Fantech offers a choice of interior and exterior mounted
fans. So there’s a Fantech bathroom exhaust fan for every situation.
Fantech FR Series Fan Kits.
A breath of fresh air.Fantech FR Series fans are available as easy-to-install kits. This de-
pendable family of bathroom fans offers a choice of single or dual
point exhaust. The kits include all basic components- the only addi-
tional elements required to complete the installation are flexible
duckwork and a roof or side vent. All FR Series fan kits feature fan,
mounting bracket and grill/collar/backdraft damper combination, and
all kits are prewired for easy connection to your electrical source.
Available to fit 4" to 8" duct sizes, Fantech FR Series regular (single
point exhaust) and deluxe (dual point exhaust) fan kits are the solution
for most bathroom ventilation needs.

RE Series Fan
Fantech’s RVF and RE Series Fans.
The easy exterior solution. When bathroom ventilation requirements call for an exterior mounted
fan, Fantech’s RVF and RE Series fans fit the bill. These fans are the
answer for apartments and condominiums, where concrete firewalls
separate the individual units.
The RVF fans mount on outside walls, RE fans on the roof or wall, for
minimal interior disturbance and maximum ventilation. Performance
levels match those of Fantech’s interior mounted fans.
The RVF and RE series features rugged construction with baked pow-
der-coat finish on a galvanized steel housing, dependability, and the
ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures. With duct diameters
from 4″ to 6″, there’s an RVF or RE Series fan to fit every need that
calls for exterior mounted ventilation.

Please note: The Home Ventilation Institute (HVI) doesnot currently have a sound test standard for remotemounted fans. Fantech fans are considered remotemounted fans because they are not mounted within theliving area. As a result, Fantech is unable to list sonelevels for our products. In most cases, a remote fan willbe quieter than one mounted within the living area.

Fantech Solutions Book 13
The Dryer Facts:When it comes to dryers, where is the perfect installation with little to noduct length? The reality which contractors and homeowners have towork with is far from perfect. A short dryer duct length is not alwayspossible. This is where Fantech Dryer Boosters can help.
Under prime conditions, residential and commercial clothes dryersshould dry clothing in a timely fashion. Problems occur when dryersare connected to long runs of duct work. This is the reason why mostresidential dryers are located against outside walls. The exhausted airis vented directly to the outside without complicated ducting to hinderthe performance of the dryer.
Many dryer installations do not allow direct venting and the typical resi-dential dryer cannot operate efficiently against the resistance createdby the necessary duct work. The results are longer drying times, higherenergy usage and costs, and excessive wear and tear on the dryer.
Some common examples are:• Basements that do not allow direct venting.
• Central interior located residential laundry rooms.
• Apartment complexes with centrally locatedlaundering areas.
• Apartment complexes with individual hook-upsfor dryers in each apartment.
TYPICAL FAN PROBLEMS:Conventional types of booster fans present the following.
• Their blades clog with lint
• The blower cannot handle the long runs of ductany better than the blower in the dryer
• The motor cannot handle the heated air fromthe dryer and tends to overload
• How to turn the booster fan on with the dryer
When to boost a dryer.Typical residential dryers are rated at 160cfm. However, boosting is generally needed in order to maintain a minimum
airflow of 100cfm as duct length increases and bends are introduced in the duct line.
Based on surveying the recommendations from dryer manufacturers, and local building codes in selected areas, dryer
boosting is typically required when the duct length exceeds the following:
Maximum duct No bends 1 bend 2 bends 3 bendslength with:25’ 20’ 15’ 10’
Fantech models DBF 110, DBF 4XL and RVF 4XL are all suitable for most dryer boosting applications. Generally the
models listed can be used for maximum duct length of 60 linear feet with a maximum of six elbows using four inch rigid
duct. For longer duct runs please contact our technical department for specific recommendations

FANTECH SOLUTIONS:
A Word on Installation…
Easy! The secret is in the fully automatic pressure switch.
Whether you are installing our new inline Dryer
Booster fan, DBF 110 and DBF 4XL (complete with
switch) or the RVF 4XL (with separate switch) it is a
breeze. Designed to attach inline near the booster
fan the switch monitors dryer operation and will
activate the fan when the dryer comes on. Preset
to cycle in ten minute intervals the fan will stay on
until the dryer stops. All Fantech dryer booster fans
are suitable for rigid duct runs of up to 60 linear
feet with a maximum of six elbows. In all installations
there needs to be at least 15 linear feet of duct
between the booster fan and the dryer. In addition,
Fantech offers peace of mind with a Five Year
Warranty on all the fans featured.
Residential and CommercialFantech RVF 4XL Exterior Mounted Fan
The RVF Series exterior mounted fans addresses every situation.
The perfect solution for condominiums and apartment complexes
where concrete firewalls separate the individual units. Venting of inte-
rior dryers can now be accomplished easily with minimal interior dis-
turbance. The unit mounts neatly on the outside wall. The RVF matches
the same performance requirements as our inline fans. The enamel
finish on the RVF is as enduring as it is attractive. The energy savings
of the efficient drying of clothes when combined with our new DB10
pressure switch (mounts near fan) is a winning combination.

We recommend the following:
• Use of insulated flexible duct for the exhaust system.
• Placing at least 8 feet of duct between intake grill and fan.(insulated flexible duct allows sound from fan to dissapategradually so that it can not be heard in the bathroom.)
• If applicable use multiple intake points.
• Use low sound generation grills (such as the ones supplied inour bath ventilation kits).
Kitchen Ventilation RatesBefore selecting your kitchen ventilation fan check with localresidential codes. This will typically give you a minimum ventilationrate. Additionally, check the range manufacturer’s recommenda-tions for ventilation. If range manufacturer’s recommendations arenot available use these figures in calculating fan size.
Wall Mount Hood:• 100 cfm per foot of width
Example #4
Example #3
Kitchen Ventilation Sound Levels:
Fantech inline fans tend to be very quiet for range hood installa-tion, however to optimize this, please consider the followingsuggestions.
• Install a duct silencer. This will act like a muffler to preventsound generated by the fan from coming down the ductto the range.
• Install a speed controller. Often a smaller amount ofventilation will be sufficient, and by running the fan slowerit is possible to reduce the sound.
Island Mount Hood:• 150 cfm per foot of width
Example #5
Range Hood Dimensions
36″ wide by 18″ deep
Conversion#1
36″ = 3′
Calculation #1
3′ x 100 cfm per foot = 300 cfm
Range Hood Dimensions
36″ wide by 24″ deep
Conversion#1
36″ = 3′
Calculation #1
3′ x 150 cfm per foot = 450 cfm
(Note: ft2 = square feet)
8′ x 10′ bath with one toilet and one shower/tub
Calculation #1
8′ x 10′ = 80 square feet
Calculation #2
80 ft2 x 1 cfm/ft2 = 80 cfm
Bathrooms over 100 square feetIn bathrooms over 100 sq. ft. the cfm is calculated based on thefixtures in the bath. Toilets, showers, standard tubs and steamshowers† are allowed 50cfm for each fixture. Hot tubs arecalculated at 100cfm.
Example #2
11′ x 14′ bath with his & her toilets and a shower
Calculation #1
11′ x 14′ = 154 square feet
Calculation #2
50 cfm (his toilet) + 50 cfm (her toilet) + 50 cfm (shower) = 150 cfm
18′ x 22′ bath with his & her toilets, shower, and hot tub
Calculation #1
18′ x 22′ = 396 square feet
Calculation #2
50 cfm (his toilet) +50 cfm (her toilet) +
50 cfm ((shower) + 100 cfm (hot tub) = 250 cfm
†Note: We recommend that steam showers be vented using aseparate fan on a timer so that fan may be shut off duringshower use and then run afterward to dry the shower stall.
Bathroom Vent LocationsLocate the vent intake as close to the bath fixtures (toilets, showers, and hot tubs) as possible. Try to keep the vent as farfrom doors, operable windows and air supply registers as possible. The intent is to make the air flow across the room and removemoist, humid air from the appliance location. Remote fans allowthe use of multiple intakes with a single fan so that systems maybe more closely tailored to the individual room.

Fantech External Rotor Motor
All Fantech fans, with the exception of the TurboFlo Series, are powered by an external rotor motorized impeller. Like every electric
motor our external rotor motor consists of a stator wound with copper wire and a rotor. The difference is that the rotor rotates
externally around the stator.
Mechanical AdvantagesThe complete fan unit, i.e. the small external rotor motor equipped with an impeller requires minimum space. The motor/impeller combination
is matched by the motor manufacturer for optimum performance. The unique integration of both rotating parts – the motor and the impeller
– permits precision balancing in two planes to DIN ISO 1940. Rather than cantilevering off a shaft, the impeller is centered over the bearings
in the motor, thereby reducing the load on the bearings. Both the motor and the impeller are directly in the air stream and are thus very
efficiently cooled resulting in minimum thermal stress on the bearings. The above design features significantly extends lift expectancy. The
bearings are lubricated for life and require no maintenance. Fantech offers a 3 or 5 year warranty covering the complete unit on all external
rotor motor powered fans.
Speed ControllabilityFantech’s external rotor motor powered fans are 100% speed controllable. The fan output can be adjusted with solid state speed controls,
transformers or variable frequency drives. The speed controllability of the Fantech fans is achieved through careful design: The rotor in the
air stream gives superior cooling, increasing the service factor. Most motors loose too much torque as the voltage is reduced, causing the
motors to stall or operation to be unstable if the voltage is reduced too far. As the voltage is reduced the motor rpm is not reduced much at
first but when voltage is reduced farther the fan will suddenly stop. The external rotor motors in the Fantech fans are designed for increased
torque at reduced rpm’s. There is enough torque available for the motor to turn the wheel and operate in a stable fashion even at very low
rpm’s. The backward curved impeller design in the Fantech fans have no unstable areas of operation at any point of operation or at any
voltage/rpm.
Motor ProtectionEquipping motors with current sensing overload protection is not sufficient for speed controlled motors. Fantech’s external rotor motors
are equipped with internal thermal protection. The thermal protection will automatically shut down the motor if the motor is overheating for
any reason. On single phase fans this protection is totally internal. On three phase fans the thermal contacts shall be wired to an external
contactor, in order to stop the motor if an overheating condition is encountered.
Suitability:Fantech external rotor motors are classified as enclosed and are suitable for continuous duty. Fantech does currently not offer any explosion
proof external rotor motors. Since the motors are in the air stream the maximum airstream temperature is typically limited to 140° F. The
motors are not corrosion proof, but very well protected against humidity, especially when running continuously.
