IMRO will be presenting a series of masterclasses in the
New Theatre.
IMRO MASTERCLASS WITH JOHN SPILLANE
John Spillane is a Cork native musician/songwriter
who has the ability to appeal equally to audiences of
all ages. He is said to have “a voice full of honesty,
commitment and sensitivity.” Spillane has won two
Meteor Awards and is considered one of the most
accomplished songwriters in Ireland today.

14:00-16:00 IMRO MASTERCLASS WITH CHARLIE LENNON
Charlie Lennon started to play piano at the age of 7
and has since worked his way up composing music
and playing piano, bass, drum and fiddle in several
ceili bands. Many famous Irish musicians and bands
have recorded his tunes, including De Danaan, Liam
O’Flynn, Kevin Burke, Sharon Shannon, Altan and
Pete Quinn.

WINNERS
Teaspach is a Sligo based traditional group of 8 young
musicians performing a fresh lively mix of old & new
tunes & songs. The eight talented members of Teaspach
are: Áine Ní Mháirtín- Harp/Piano/Vocals; Nell Ní
Cheallaigh- Fiddle/Vocals; Gearóid Ó Duibhir-Banjo/
Mandolin; Íde Ní Chionnaith-Flute/Vocals; Jason Mac
Aonghusa-Fiddle; Hannah Ní Cheallaigh- Concertina/
Vocals; Peadar Ó Maonaigh -Bodhrán/Percussion/
Vocals; Pádraig Ó Gabháin- Accordian/Vocals. They
are winners of the 2012 Siansa Gael Linn competition,
which is the most prestigious national award for young
traditional groups.

National Wax Museum
Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th January
14:00-16:00 The National Wax Museum invites all the family to
come along to take part in a special FX and theatrical
make up demonstration in the Children’s World of
Enchantment. Make up experts from the Belvedere
Academy will be on hand to show all the mums and
dads practical tips and techniques on how to apply
make up for that princess themed birthday party or
for trick or treating Halloween night. The Team from
the Belvedre Academy will transform their volunteers
into a fairy princess, a fluffy bunny or even a horrible
monster.

Gallery Of Photography
GALLERY OF PHOTOGRAPHY’S ARCHIVE GATHERING PROJECT:
THE IRISH - A PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUM.
Gallery of Photography Ireland is inviting Irish people – wherever
they are in the world – to contribute their historical family photo-
graphs online to an emerging photographic archive of “The Irish” and
reflect the many forms of Irish cultural identity – embracing an open
and inclusive interpretation of what it means to be Irish today.
The Gallery of Photography’s Archive Gathering Project will commence
during the Temple Bar TradFest where participants will be invited to
submit their family album images. The Gallery of Photography will
provide a one day scanning and archiving workshop where partici-
pants can bring their original images for scanning.

The Irish Family History Foundation has an all Ireland
network of country genealogy centres and is the
largest provider of family history research services
on the island of Ireland. Those wishing to trace their
Irish ancestry can access to over 19 million Irish
records from the 1600s to the 1900s including births,
baptisms, marriages and deaths; Griffith’s Valuation;
Tithe Applotment Books; the 1901 & 1911 census records;
gravestone inscriptions and other sources.
Their experienced researchers from a number of their
county genealogy centres will be offering a free advi-
sory service to visitors to the TradFest to assist them
in locating records relating to their particular family
in a specific county or across any number of counties.
The IFHF and its centres are non profit organizations
providing an online and local service run by trained
genealogists and researchers, as well as computerizing
further records.

A spectacular exhibition of original 16th Century
costumes from the historical series The Tudors.
Designed by Emmy award-winning designer Joan
Bergin, the opulent costumes from the drama have
travelled the world having previously appeared on
display in Macy’s New York on St. Patrick’s Day. The
beautiful gowns feature elaborate beading, embroi-
dery, crotchet and hand painting.

09:30-17:00 BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER EXHIBITION
An exhibition marking the 350th anniversary of the
1662 Book of Common Prayer is currently on display
in the Crypt. Compiled by Canon Roy Byrne, the exhi-
bition celebrates the great heritage of liturgical reform
and development and draws together a wide variety
of editions of the Book of Common Prayer to illustrate
its 350th anniversary journey. Entitled “the Word that
spake it”, the exhibition will be on display in the cathe-
dral’s Treasury until St Patrick’s Day.

15:00 THE MAGIC OF THE HARP
Laoise Kelly (harp), Robbie Walsh (bodhrán) Vladimir
Jablokov (violin), Martin Brunsden (harp).
Delve into the dizzying melodies and lively rhythms
of Ireland’s national instrument in a performance that
includes music by Turlough O’Carolan, Ireland’s most
famous harper and composer. Guest violinist Vladimir
Jablokov will also appear to recreate in music the fa-
mous tale told of a musical duel between O’Carolan
and a European violin player living in Ireland at the
time.

Children who can play a tune on the fiddle, bodhrán,
harp, concertina, or any instrument, can drop in to
our free open trad sesúin led by members of Ceoltóirí
Chluain Tarbh, a long established and highly active
Irish music organisation. Families are invited to come,
watch and enjoy!
PRICE: Free admission on a first come first served
basis. Places in the session will be allocated on the day
based on availability. Participation is recommended
for children who have been learning traditional music
for a year or more. Children wishing to participate
must bring their own instruments. AGES 8-12

11:30-13:00 UKULELE CÉILÍ
Join musicians Shane McGrath and Nora Artola, and
Irish dancer Anthony Fallon (formerly of Riverdance)
for a truly first of its kind workshop experience. Learn
to play several well-known céilí tunes on ukulele,
the little guitar-like folk instrument from the pacific
islands, and then learn the steps of an Irish ceilí dance
to go with the music. Towards the end of the workshop
we’ll bring it all together for a big Ukelele Ceilí – fun
like you’ve never experienced before is guaranteed!
Suitable for all levels including complete beginners.

Join traditional whistle and uilleann pipes player
Thomas Johnston for a music workshop packed with
interactive tunes and songs that little ears and voices
will love. There will be lots of fun and maybe even a
chance to help play the whistles!

Drop-in craft club presented in partnership with the
Crafts Council of Ireland.
Travel back in time and try your hand at willow-weav-
ing, textiles and metal crafting, all inspired by the courts,
clothing and jewellery of the ancient high kings and
queens of Ireland. AGES 4+

Drop-in sessions will take approximately 30 minutes.

WITH CORMAC DE BARRA (harp) AND SINÉAD MAD-
DEN (fiddle, vocals). PERFORMING IRISH TRADITION-
AL MUSIC FOR CHILD AND FAMILY AUDIENCES PRE-
SENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MUSIC NETWORK.
This professional development workshop will support
professional musicians to develop performance skills
for child and family audiences. The workshop will be-
gin with an opportunity to attend a traditional music
performance for schools at The Ark, before Cormac and
Sinead lead a practical workshop which will introduce
approaches to interacting with young audiences, stage
communication skills, audience management, creating
engaging music sets and addressing particular challenges
that musicians may encounter.

Martin Hayes, one of Ireland’s greatest fiddlers and

Busking is an age old tradition in Dublin, especially
in Temple Bar. Stop at the Buskers Stage and listen to
some great music, both the classics and the new. Inter-
national buskers and street performers will take over
the stage next to the Auld Dubliner Pub. Some buskers
have gone on to win Oscars, so who knows what hidden
talent you might hear that has yet to be discovered!

Meath Beo is a collective of traditional festivals from
Co. Meath led by the Scurlogstown Olympiad Group.
Meath Beo will transform the grounds of Christ
Church Cathedral with a traditional rural Irish Village.
Audiences will experience a taste of country in the city
with Meath Beo’s cottages, dancers and other
elements.
WOOLY WARD’S FARM
Wooly Ward’s Farm is a mobile animal farm set up
by the Ward family in North County Dublin. Wooly
Ward’s Farm will be setting up “Pets Corner” at Christ
Church, come and meet all the farm animals–the
bunnies and guinea pigs, the hamster and hens, Billy
& Sid the goats, Biscuits and Ginger the sheep and of
course Charles and Kuzco the Llamas. Take a pony ride
on Sheba or enjoy a trip on Thomas the Tank Engine.
Why not get an animal tattoo painted on your arm or
an animal balloon from Amazy Daisy!

Fuinneamh means energy. This is a 14ft communal drum for everyone to
play together, no experience needed! We provide sticks for little hands
and adult sizes too. With toys and hoops to dance on the drum skin while
we play, a colorful spectacle unfolds. Playing with Fuinneamh is about
coming together, having fun and expressing yourself, whether younger
or older all you need is a heartbeat and a smile. Come and play Fuin-
neamh with us, Ireland’s biggest communal drum.
