Rowan Rec Center Fall 2015 Swim Lesson Details

Level 1: This class is designed to make children become comfortable with the water. The main skills this class focuses on includes supported float (front and back), supported kicking, supported arm movements, and basic water safety. Pre-requisites: Must be willing to enter the water on their own.

Level 2: This class is designed to take children that are comfortable in the water and start to build upon the skills taught in Level 1. We push the students to perform the skill without supports. Skills taught include unsupported kicking, using arm movements on front while floating, treading water, and finning. Pre-requisites: Completion or demonstration of all Level 1 skills. Level 3: This class is designed to improve upon skills learned in Level 2. Skills taught include front crawl, elementary backstroke, and introduction of the scissor kick. Pre-requisites: Completion or demonstration of all Level 2 skills.

Level 4: This class is designed to refine the skills learned in Level 3. It also introduces the butterfly and breaststroke while increasing endurance. Skills taught include front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. Possible diving based on skill level. Pre-requisties: Completion or demonstration of all Level 3 skills.

Youth Swim Lessons (Ages 5 - 14)

All children move at a different pace, so we will allow children to stay in the toddler level even if they complete all the skills. However, if you would like, we can move a child (even if younger in age) to Level 1 after demonstrating the ability to perform all toddler skills! In the toddler class children will learn to adjust to the water. Skills taught include bubble blowing, supported front and back kick, supported arm movements on front and back, supported front and back glide, and water safety. Pre-requisites: Children MUST be potty trained!
