Call For Nominations for CSPCA Valued Member Award The purpose of this award is to increase the recognition of the many important contributions made by CSPCA members to our Club and breed. The CSPCA is a large and diverse organization with no paid employees. Therefore, the efforts of our volunteers are directly responsible for the success of our club and its programs. I believe it is an honor to be able to reward a CSPCA member for distinguished service.

Now it is your opportunity to follow suit and nominate another CSPCA member as YOUR Most Valued Member choice. This award is NOT just something to be passed around amongst friends, in fact is actually our hope that you do NOT do this. Instead, it is for that unsung hero who works for the CSPCA with their heart and soul, who has contributed their time, energy and efforts to the Club, our CSPCA, because of their love for the Breed and the Club which fosters it. It is for a person who is one of those folks who so often works very hard behind the scenes, not asking for or expecting recognition but working because they care, because it is just what they DO. It is for a person who is not just a member of the CSPCA, but who makes a truly valuable contribution to the CSPCA - thus a Most Valued Member award. We want to let these unsung heroes KNOW that we see what they give to the CSPCA and our breed and that we honestly appreciate it. If you know of someone who deserves this award and has not received it yet, please consider nominating them. Any member in good standing can nominate another member in good standing for the Valued Member Award, except sitting board members are ineligible. We need a brief write up of why you think the person should get the award, along with their name and your name. Include the things they have done for the club that make them a Valued Member in your write up. The board will take all the nominations and select one winner each quarter. The deadline for nominations is September 15. All nominations should be sent to Marilyn Braunstein at [email protected] . If the person that you nominated wins, you will be notified and will need to get a high - resolution photo for printing in The Barker. All winners will be announced in The Barker and with a plaque at the CSPCA Awards Program the following year. All nominations will be submitted twice to the board. After the second submission to the Board it will be invalid, however the member submitting the nomination is welcome to resubmit their nomination to the Most Valued Member Chairman. If you miss this deadline, the next deadline will be December 15, 2021. Alphabetical Order of People that have won the award and therefore are ineligible to be nominated again. Teller’s Report

Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America, Inc. Bylaw Revision 2021

There are 171 votes cast with no illegal votes.

Carl Holder, Teller

Member NAP

The newly revised bylaws must still be approved by AKC at their next board meeting. Once we have AKC’s approval the new revisions will be in effect. We will keep you posted on the process.

AKC has cancelled all of the Meet the Breed Booths for the remainder of the year due to COVID. When they announce the new dates for 2022, we will let everyone know. Breed booths are an excellent way to educate the public about our breed. It allows them to have a first-hand experience to interact with our dogs, and to correct any misconceptions they may have about Shar-Pei.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS

We would like to thank all of our volunteers! Your help is what makes this club sponsor all the programs that we do. We appreciate the time you give to make the club better.

JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP

If you have a child who is at least 9 years old and under 18 years old, you may want to get them interested in Junior Showmanship. Does your child have an innate passion for dogs? Do you to want to empower him/her with life-long skills about being responsible and a good sport – whether winning or losing? Put him/her on the path of Junior Showmanship (also called “Junior Handling”), a sport for young people where they show off their dog handling skills. In fact, your child might love it so much it might even be a possible career path!

Take them to a show and let them watch the Junior classes. Take them to Conformation classes so they can learn the process and practice before they actually show at an AKC or Specialty show. If you would like more information please contact Doug Hobbs, our Junior Advisor: [email protected] As a last reminder, Junior Memberships in the CSPCA are free, but must be applied for. Application for a Junior Membership is available on the Membership Form.

LONGEVITY PROGRAM REMINDER

We want to remind you about the Longevity Program. It is to recognize our Shar-Pei who have lived at least 10 years. As soon as a Shar-Pei turns 10, it becomes eligible. The list of dogs registered can be seen on the CSPCA website: www.cspca.com. You can participate by clicking on Health and Wellness, then Longevity Program, and a popup menu gives you access to the application and information about the program. If you click on dog's name, breeder or owner, you will get a list of the dogs that are already in the program. I cordially invite members to fill out the application and mail the information to me, so that your dog's name can be added to this distinguished list. You will also receive a Longevity Certificate suitable for framing.

If your dog is already on the list, but is now deceased, please advise me of the date of death, so that I can make the necessary changes to the certificate number reflecting the number of months he/she lived. The "L" at the end of the Certificate # indicates the dog is living. The "D" at the end of the Certificate # indicates that the dog is deceased. I look forward to hearing from you and having the opportunity to share the long life of your dog. Lynn Olds [email protected]

PHOTOGRAPHERS NEEDED

The Barker would love to have your candid photos from Nationals for our National Specialty issue. We are interested in all kinds of photos that represent the people and activities at our National Specialty. We need high resolution photos for printing in the magazine. The CSPCA and its members sincerely appreciate the work provided by these fine affiliated rescue groups. Contact a wonderful volunteer at the email listed below for additional information. Make a web visit! While you are there consider making a donation to help these beautiful Shar-Pei!

MONKEY is a big boy at 68 pounds. He is bit standoffish at first, but will warm up to you fairly quickly. He enjoys butt scratches, is a laid back guy and is a big love bug. He is UTD on his shots. He would be a good fit for a low-energy, laid back family, available to snuggle up next to you while watching TV! He is indifferent to other dogs. You can find out more about Monkey at MID-ATLANTIC CHINESE SHAR-PEI RESCUE - [email protected]. This rescue group is struggling financially right now and could use donations. You can donate on their website at http://www.macspro.org

GLORIA is a 1 to 2 year old chocolate female that found herself at the shelter. She would love a Shar-Pei experienced home and should either be the only dog or with a very neutral or submissive smaller dog.. She is good with all humans, is housetrained and happy. She warms up slower to men than women, but is very friendly. She is young and will play with her mouth (put mouth on your arm) so can use some correction and she may not be suited for kids under 10. She is about 35 pounds and will be spayed prior to adoption. She is in Quail Valley, CA. Contact PEI PEOPLE SHAR-PEI RESCUE for more information: [email protected] www.PeiPeople.com

CHIEF is a love bug and like to be close to his people. He is housebroken and crate trained. He has very limited vision so his person will need to be mindful of this and be his eyes when needed. Generally, though, he gets along pretty well by himself. He would do better with another laid back friend. He would love a yard of his very own as he loves being outside in the sun. If you're looking for a nice boy, this is it. Find out more about Chief at SHAR-PEI RESCUE OF VA, INC. [email protected]. If Chief is not the dog for you, we have others on our website: https://www.sharpeirescueofva.org/

EMMA is a purebred horse coat 5-year-old Chinese Shar Pei. She found herself very neglected the past couple of years. She has a lot of baggage and here is a list of requirements for her adoption. If you do not fall into all of these categories please do NOT reach out. *House with wood fenced yard ONLY, no chain link, no apartments etc *NO OTHER ANIMALS NONE ZERO *Local Adoption Only (Kirkland, WA area). If you can say yes to the 3 requirements please read on and I look forward to working with you and finding Emma's forever home!!!! She is great in the car and did well at the vet. She is very food motivated so she persuades easily with a treat! MEOW CANINE Please email Kelly at [email protected]

JAZZIE BLU is looking for a home. She is 8 years old, loves people and toys. She is pretty healthy for her age, just some light skin issues. Due to some severe issues between Jazzie and the other Pei in the home it was decided to rehome one of them. The other Pei has a lot of health issues so the owner felt it was better not to pass that on to someone else. Jazzie is located in IL near St. Louis. Any further questions can be referred to the owner, [email protected] Posted through Shar-Pei Savers.
