OPERATING HOURSOperating hours for the YMCA of Columbia are as follows: »Monday - Thursday: 5 a.m. - l0 p.m.* »Friday: 5 a.m. - 8 p.m. »Saturday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. »Sunday: 1 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.* Note: Downtown and Lexington close at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Contact your local branch for age policies.

COMMUNITY WIDE MEMBERSHIPA Community Wide Membership provides Members access to all programs and services at our YMCA facilities in Columbia, Lexington, Ballentine, lrmo, Lake Carolina, and Orangeburg. Benefits include Members rates, priority registration for programs, and access to Members - only programs and services at any YMCA of Columbia branch.

FAMILY MEMBERSHIPUp to two adults and their dependent children living at the same address may apply for a Y Family Membership. (Dependent children are those claimed on your last year’s federal tax return).

BRANCH MEMBERSHIPMembers with a branch Membership at the Lexington or Orangeburg YMCAs may visit other facilities as a guest for $10 or upgrade their Membership to a Community Wide Membership to visit for no charge.

OPEN Y PROGRAMThanks to generous donors from individuals and organizations to the Y’s Annual Campaign, the Y is able give financial assistance for life-changing programs and services. This allows the Y to live by it’s mission to welcome everyone in our doors regardless of the ability to pay.

GUEST POLICYIf you are considering a Y membership, we invite you to tour the facility to receive a complimentary day guest pass. Bring your guest pass back to enjoy all the Y has to offer. Non-members may visit our facilities for $10. Any person that does not hold a current membership must be 18 years or older to visit without a parent or guardian present. All guests are required to present a photo ID, sign a daily waiver and wear a guest wristband during visit.

YMCA “AWAY” PROGRAMA.W.A.Y. means “Always Welcome at YMCAs.” The A.W.A.Y. program is based on the philosophy that when a person enrolls in a YMCA, he or she becomes a Member of a nationwide association of people that helps build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Therefore, when away from home, on business or vacation, Y Members will be warmly welcomed by all other participating YMCAs in the United States. A YMCA’s participation in this program is voluntary. AWAY members must present a picture ID on each visit. Some restrictions apply. The Columbia YMCA’s AWAY Policy is that any YMCA Members of another Y Association can visit and use our facilities free for up to 12 days per calendar year, and after the 12 free visits, there will be a $10.00 a day charge.

CORPORATE MEMBERSHIPMany companies work with the YMCA of Columbia to encourage their employees to stay fit, healthy and productive. Inquire about your company’s current involvement and the benefits offered. We also invite any company interested in starting a Corporate Wellness Program to email Wendy Broderick at [email protected].

CHILDWATCH A YMCA Staff supervised area where Member’s children can playand enjoy activities while parents workout. Members have theopportunity to enjoy the benefit of Childwatch while on premises and up to two hours per child per day. Contact your local branch for details. Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%, and 71% in adults over the age of 60. MY FIT PROGRAMMy Fit is a series of three programs (Smart Start, Healthy Eating and Personal Training) designed to help you develop and achieve goals and become healthier. Coaches provide support by working one-on-one with participants and using MobileFit, an easy-to-use, web-based system, to create and log workouts and stay connected with each other between appointments. Stop by the front desk at any time to sign up for My Fit. A wellness coach will contact you to set up your first session meeting and get you started on your path to wellness. Cost: Members get three FREE coaching appointments through the MyFit program

This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal.” They will work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body. This program is free to participants and is funded by generous donors to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAMSTWIZZLENASTICSAges: 2-5 years oldTwizzlenastics is a class for those that are flipping, rolling and jumping all over the house. The class will help your child develop gross and fine motor skills through coordination, strength and flexibility. Each week during class we will use specifically designed beams, bars and trampolines. WELLNESS ORIENTATIONSAges: 15 and upLearn the ropes of the wellness center with the assistance of a wellness coach. Your coach will provide you with everything you need to begin a healthy lifestyle. Our orientations are designed to teach members the safe and effective uses of all cardiovascular and weight equipment. Your coach will share tips and techniques that will surely get you on the path to better health.Members: FREE.

FITNESS ASSESSMENTAges: 14 and upFeel out of shape? This test will give you a visual idea of where you stand on the fitness scale. Fitness coaches will test your flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and muscular strength. Results will provide information on areas tested as well as your current weight, height and Body Mass Index (BMI). Register at the front desk.Members: $15

BODY FAT TESTINGAge: 14 & upBody Fat Testing will show your current body fat versus body weight, as well as muscle to fat ratio. Register at the front desk.Members: $10

WATER BABIES SWIM LESSONSAges: 6 Months to 36 Months + parentsThe primary objective is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water. The parent will learn how to be safe with the child in and around the water. The child will become aware of the differences between moving on the water an on dry land while the parent will become aware of how to teach his/her child to be safer in and around the water. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water while the parent guides him to learn aquatic skills. SeahorseThis class is for first time riders (no prior formal lessons) with little or no experience. This class will start with ground safety, how to groom and tack their horse, to a mounted lesson learning proper balance and control.

MaidenThis class is for riders that have confidence around the horse, have a balanced position doing a trot in a 2-point position while mounted and have a basic concept of a posting trot.

Novice/AmateurStudents should able to develop and maintain a horse consistently bent in the direction of travel in a trot or a canter. Jumping courses under 3’. Simple change of leads, hand gallop, extended trot, and mount from the ground. Student should have intermediate control and be able to demonstrate a crest release.

HackerStudents will be working on the same skills as Amateur but with more advanced skills. They should able to develop and maintain a horse consistently bent in the direction of travel in a trot or a canter. Jumping courses under 3’. Flying lead changes, hand gallop, extended trot, and mount from the ground. Student should have intermediate control and be able to demonstrate a crest release along with leg yields. Riders should be able to correctly wrap their horse before each lesson..HopefulStudents should be able to trot figure 8s, canter a 2 point around the arena, demonstrate trot to halt transitions, and group canter work. Small cross rails with elementary release.

Young EntryStudents will continue to work on same skills as the Hopeful level, but with more work cantering securely around the arena. Rider should be able to consistently pick up the correct leads. Jumping single crossrails lines and small verticals.

CavallettiStudents should be able to trot securely around the entire ring in a 2-point, posting trot, and over cavalletti poles. They should know and consistently demonstrate correct diagonals. During western lessons they should have the ability to sit deeply and softly in a jog. The rider should ride unlocked and flexible through their 3 shock absorbers. They will have a basic concept on how to ask and ride a canter down the long side of the arena.

Green HorsemanStudents should be able to trot a balanced circle, double posting, demonstrating a half turn in reverse, cantering crossrails, moving into higher verticals, and multiple jumping lines. The student should be able to explain the 4-phases of the jump and know the average horse’s trot and canter strides.

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCALIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, 12-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal.”

They will work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

The parent will learn how to be safe with the child in and around the water. TEENS-IN-TRAININGAges: 10-14Course prepares young members for limited use of the Wellness Center while accompanied by their parent or guardian. This program teaches how to properly use the cardiovascular machines and strength machine (12-14 years only for strength equipment), as well as flexibility exercises. In order to exercise in the Wellness Center students must complete the entire class and pass a written test at the end of class. A badge will be presented at the end of the program that participant must wear at all times while working out in the Wellness Center and be accompanied by parent or guardian at all times. FACILITY RENTALSThe Orangeburg Community YMCA offers a variety of rentals for all of your needs! We provide the room and you do all the rest. Rooms will be available 30 minutes prior to event time for set-up. Events involving food and/or drinks (except birthday parties) will also have a $35 base cleaning fee. Prior reservations and a facility agreement are required with full payment.

YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAMSKEYBOARD LESSONSAges: 8 and upKeyboarding lessons are here! Great for the music lover, beginner, and even those who are a bit out of touch with their musical side. Participants will develop their discipline, focus, understanding of basic music theory, reading music and keyboarding skills. Keyboarding lessons are sponsored in part by Woody’s Pawn Shop.Each small group meets once a week with instructor Bryan Aiken, the keyboardist for Cornerstone Church in Bamberg, SC.Group Classes: Mondays or Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m. or 5:30-6:30 p.m.Monthly cost: $30 members/$40 non-members

CHILDWATCH/KIDZONEAges: 8 Weeks-11 YearsA safe and fun YMCA staff supervised area where parents with a Family Membership can leave their children to play and enjoy activities while they participate in programs on site. 2 Hour Maximum Per Day.Days & Times:Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. – Noon and 4 – 8:30 p.m.Friday: 8 a.m. – Noon and 4 – 8:00 p.m.Saturday: 8 a.m. – NoonMembers: Free with Family Membership
