Fairy Houses Ages Prek-2 Explore : What do living things need to survive? Food, Water, Air, and Shelter! People and wildlife all over the world work to meet these needs everyday. Sometimes, they do this by making a home--somewhere to live that can provide them shelter, that protects them from the outside world, and is close to places where they can get food, water, and fresh air. Can you build a home that meets all these requirements? Help make a home for a Fairy! You can help protect them so that they can help protect the natural world they live in. Create: Go outside and gather some natural materials that you think would work well to build a Fairy House. When collecting your materials, try and collect a variety of different items. Remember not to take too many of one living thing, you want to be careful of the world around you. Dead things are a great idea too! Bring your materials to a spot that you think a Fairy would like to live. Consider your location--you want to make sure it’s in a place where it won’t be stepped on if people might be walking through the area. What kinds of things would you like to include? A bedroom? A living room? A kitchen? Some outside spots like a fire ring area? Maybe a fairy swimming pool? Are there other Fairies who live nearby? Can you make a path to other houses, or a water source? Think about how this fairy will find what they need---let your imagination run wild! Reflect and Share: How did you decide what materials to use? What kind of house design do you have? Does the Fairy have everything it needs? Come back and check on your house in a few days. How did your house hold up? Do you want to make any changes, additions, or do anything differently? Keep returning to your Fairy House to see how it changes, and how you want to change it. Materials: Natural Materials: sticks, stones, park, pinecones, acorns, flowers, leaves, moss, shells, evergreen needles, and imagination! Why: Creativity, Caring for others, Problem Solving, Fine Motor Skills, Sense and Knowledge of Place, Fun
