Dear Parents/ Carers,
ROCKETING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MRS KARAM
Class 2L: On Monday I visited 2L with Ms Lee. The children had been learning how to create number patterns that increase or decrease in size. The students worked in pairs to roll a unique dice called a ’dice in dice’. They wrote down a two digit number and then rolled a +/- die. Using a numeral dice they then created their number pattern. Children were able to describe their pattern using mathematical language. I loved watching the children communicate together to problem solve.
Class 5/6L: In week 10 I visited 5/6L with Mr Ly. The children were asking me lots of questions about the Bees so, I showed them some photos and we discussed our interesting visitors. Mr Ly introduced the children to a Behind The News video about rubbish in the ocean. The children wrote down the Very Important Points (VIPs) and summarised the video as a class. We had a great discussion about our own responsibilities with rubbish. The children then wrote a report based on the invention in the video. I really enjoyed my time in 5/6L. I can’t wait to read the final reports.
Art Prize
Maryam Salmon 3/4M has had her diversity calendar art work shortlisted to be included in an online art gallery. From there, the winners will be selected to be included in the 2019 calendar for diversity!
Sport News
Congratulations to Thomas Koro 5/6M who participated in the Regional Athletics Carnival last week. Thomas was 1st in the 800 metres and will now be off to the NSW State Carnival to compete. We are very proud of him!
Principal’s Morning Tea.
Congratulations to the winners of the Principal Morning Tea. I really enjoyed watching a movie and eating some yummy food with the children.
Bees
Last Friday we had some visitors to our school. A swarm of bees decided to make our school its home for the day. To keep everyone safe we had inside playtime for both break 1 and 2. Lots of classes have been investigating and learning about bees this week.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday! Students will return to school on Monday 15th October.

Karen Tyrell author visit:
Last week we were lucky enough to
have Karen Tyrell, the author, visit our
school and speak to the Stage 3
students. Karen was once a teacher
when Mr Pitt and Mr Kinniburgh were
in Primary School., however, now she
is busy writing children’s books. Karen
entertained the students by coming
dressed as one of her characters,
Songbird Superhero.

“I like OSHClub because I get to do my
Homework and get to draw with my
friends. When I do my homework at OSH-
Club, I get more time for playing at
home.” Vivian, Yr 4
“I send my children to OSH-
Club, because I don’t know
what time I will finish work,
so I send them, so they are
looked after until I can pick
them up.” Kim
Over the last 2 weeks, our garden has gotten so much rain
and it has grown out of control because of it!! We decided
to do a bit of gardening care in the garden and some well
needed maintenance in the worm farm. We had lots of
fun picking out all the worms from the bottom section and
the kids had so much fun naming all of them too. After all
the worms were out, we put their hard work…(all of our
fruit and vegie scraps from afternoon tea gets eaten up
and turned into compost), into the garden to give it a bit
of nutrients, followed by a BIG drink of worm tea!! (That’s
worm wee! It’s great for a growing garden!)
Maths Morning:
Last week, students also got to engage
in a morning filled with rotational
maths activities. These activities had
the students using their sweaty brains
when they worked as mathematicians
sharing their ideas. Many students
walked away enthused about
mathematics and excited about the
different activities they did.
STARTTS Odyssey Concert:
On Friday, Stage 3 students who have
been taking part in the Musical
Odyssey Program showcased their
talents during their concert. We had
singing, dancing, drumming and even
beat boxing! It was wonderful to see
the students perform with pride and
the audience take part with
enthusiasm. Well done to all!

27 September, 2018 Term 3, Week 10
On the 25th August 7 students from years 5 and 6 competed in the TOM competition. This
involved months of preparation as students worked on a Long Term Challenge. Students had
to use their creativity to design and built a model of animal. It was a great day to see the
students using their skills to work together. Thank you to Lara, Mariel, Christina, Shelby,
Nicholas, Jasmine and George for their hard work and commitment to TOM.
Thank you Miss Giannaula and Mrs Herps
In weeks 7 and 8, students from years 2-6 attended the swimming scheme at Fin Aquatics in
Smithfield. The students learnt many swimming skills to develop their confidence in the water.
They were also taught basic survival skills to help keep them and their family safe around
water activities. Each day we had two safety talks that helped to build students understanding
of water safety. It was a wonderful program to be a part of, especially as we saw the student’s
skills and confidence in the water grow. Thank you Miss Giannaula and Mrs Herps
