Rose Bud

Row 1: CH 12 and work back along the CH beginning from 3rd stitch from the hook. 2 SC, CH 2 and skip 1 stitch, and repeat. 2 SC, CH 2 and skip 1 stitch. End on 2 SC. Row 2: CH 1 and turn, work 2 DC, 2 TC, 2 DC in each CH 2 space and SC in the top of the next SC and repeat all the way to the end, including the loop at the very end of the CH where you will make 6 DC and then F/O and leave a long tail for sewing the bud together through the open spaces at the bottom of the rose. Coil the first petal very tightly with the “wrong side” to the inside of the bud. Carefully coil the petals around this center petal, loosening or tightening the coil as you go to arrange the petals in a tight pretty bud shape. Sew through the bottoms of the petals and tie off tightly. Sew your end up into the bud to trim off.

To attach the base of the bud lay the 5 points up and along the petals and stitch them in hiding your stitches as best as you can. F/O and hide your end between the petal and the greenery.

To attach a stem to your rosebud first CH 25 and F/O, then use one tail end of the CH to attach to the bottom of the greenery already attached to your rosebud, F/O the other end by sewing up the length of the CH and trimming close. Add 1 or 2 leaves up near the top of the CH by sewing them in and weaving the ends up through the leaf before trimming. If you’re planning to use chenille or wire to make your rose stand, see images beside the Materials on p. 2

Opened Rose This pattern can be made in different sizes. Pattern as written is for Large rose. In parenthesis Medium and Small. Any of the roses can be attached to a stem, if you choose. I only made a couple and chose the rest of mine to lay prettily on the table. Row 1: CH 35 (30, 25) and work back along the CH beginning from the 4th stitch from the hook. 2 SC, CH 2 and skip 1 stitch, 3 SC, CH 2 and skip 1 stitch, 2 SC, CH 2 and skip 1 stitch and repeat this pattern of 2 then 3 then 2 SC and CH 2 and skip 1 stitch to the end.

Row 2: CH 1 and turn. Work 2 DC, 2 TC and 2 DC in each CH 2 space. SL ST into the top of the 1st SC between each CH 2 space and repeat to the end, including working a cluster in the last CH 2 space that started the strand. F/O and leave a long strand for sewing the rose together. Flat Rose Coil the rose with the “wrong side” of the stitches facing out, or down from the end with the long tail and carefully sew the rose closed so that it lays flat. You can make the tension a little greater or lesser to arrange the placement of the petals as you coil it.

Stem Rose Coil the rose with the “right side” of the stitches facing out beginning from the end with the long tail and carefully sew the rose so that it forms a cone on the bottom and will easily meet the stem later. Sew tightly and F/O with a good knot then bury the end up through the body of the rose.

For stem rose attach greenery with wrong side facing the bottom of the rose by attaching through the stitches of the rose and back into the greenery all the way around, and then out through the bottom.

To attach the stem, sew the CH to the bottom of the flower and F/O your ends by sewing them in and trimming them short. A sample of how to weave or feed the wire through the CH stem is on p. 2
