FACULTY OF SCIENCE

OFFICE OF THE DEAN

30th July 2007.

The University Bursar,Makerere University.

Dear Mr. Byambabazi,

RE: TRANSFERS TO THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE OF FUNDS ACCRUING FROM TUITION FEES OF 2006/07

The Faculty of Science has had transfers from your office from the above tuition as per schedule below:

March April May RemarksPost Graduate 219,765 1,427,644Undergraduate Day 2,319,159 13,514,434 15m retained for the library.Undergraduate Evening

91,512 1,229,873

Total 2,630,436 16,171,951

The projected Tuition Transfer for the year 2006/07 was 171,691,610 which, in itself is not sufficient to cover the eight big departments in the faculty. The department of Sports Science alone where only 4 of the 18 members of staff are paid directly by government, spends about all the money that was transferred to the faculty this year. Many of the teachers on the Industrial Chemistry, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Conservation Biology programmes are sourced from outside the faculty and paid off the IGF funds.

The faculty had earlier on committed funds to finalize the purchase of a bus whose contract has already been signed by the University. This bus is to replace the aged bus which has been doing most of the field trips for the last twenty years. The cost of the bus is around 180,000,000/= an amount which far exceeds what is now left on the Faculty account.

During this time, the Faculty is carrying out vivas for post graduating students hoping that they graduate in the next ceremony. Even though all these students paid, much of their money is not visible in the Faculty Account.

This is to request you to release the balance of the money accruing from tuition to the faculty so that the teachers on the various programmes can be paid. We also need to carry out a variety of minor repairs on the facilities of the faculty before the students come back for the new academic year.

BS in Ed (Source: Wikpedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor's_degree )

The Bachelor of Science in Education is a four-year undergraduate degree offered by many U.S. colleges and universities for those preparing to be licensed as teachers. Variants include the B.Ed, B.A.Ed, B.A.T. (Bachelor of Arts for Teaching), and B.S.T. Preparatory to the MS in Ed, this degree is most often taken by those interested in early childhood, elementary level, and special education, or by those planning to be school administrators. Secondary level teachers -- for high school students -- often major in their subject area, as History or Chemistry or Mathematics, instead, with a minor in education.

National Institute of Education (NIE)

The National Institute of Education (NIE) which is part of NTU, offers a four-year teacher training programme.
