introduction Rev. Patricia FarrisAs Christians, we are to make the Lord Jesus Christ known to all people. We hear thisin his words: “I give you a new commandment.... Just as I have loved you, you alsoshould love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if youhave love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
In Jesus’ final command, we hear: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, andteaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And, remember, I am withyou always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Basic Christian Beliefs - Continues Today!For all who are interested in pursuing a deeper understanding of the beliefs of the Christian faith, join Kurt Poland for a 6-week class on Basic Christian Beliefs in Room 101 continuing today at 11:30 a.m. through February 24.
C.A.S.T. Auditions - Tomorrow!Children’s After School Theater’s Spring Semester starts off with auditions Monday, February 11, in Simkins Hall in The Shelby Center. 1st- 4th graders will audition from 4-6 p.m. and 5th-12th graders will audition from 6:30-8:30 p.m. C.A.S.T. fosters positive, Christian-centered actions while building self-esteem through the arts. There is a $125 activity fee. Email Dane Rold at [email protected] or call the church office for more information.
Ash WednesdayThe season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, this Wednesday, February 13. The same service will be offered in the Chapel at 12:30 and 7:30 p.m. to fit everyone’s schedule. This meaningful worship includes the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion.
UMW Theater PartyThe United Methodist Women are hosting a fundraiser with the Palisades Theater next Sunday February 17. “I was praying with my feet,” said Abraham Joshua Heschel as he walked arm-in-arm with
Martin Luther King Jr. and thousands of other civil rights activists down Pennsylvania Avenue the
morning of August 28, 1963. And present for the day’s historic speeches and marches were not
a few Methodists.
Indeed, Methodists have a marked history of praying in motion, from embarking on missionary
treks across the Atlantic, to foraying with the gospel on horseback beyond the westernmost
reaches of a new, American democracy.
Well, on March 3, the month’s first Sunday, First UMC Santa Monica will be partnering with many
churches, schools, and organizations from all across West Los Angeles to walk, run and ride along
in support of the Upward Bound House’s Home Run for Kids 10K, 5K, and Kiddie K.

Auditions - Tomorrow!Children’s After School Theater’s Spring Semester starts off with auditions Monday, February 11, in Simkins Hall in The Shelby Center. 1st- 4th graders will audition from 4-6 p.m. and 5th-12th graders will audition from 6:30-8:30 p.m. C.A.S.T. fosters positive, Christian-centered actions while building self-esteem through the arts. Ash WednesdayThe season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, this Wednesday, February 13. The same service will be offered in the Chapel at 12:30 and 7:30 p.m. to fit everyone’s schedule. This meaningful worship includes the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion.
