DAY TRIPS
FROM THE LONGMEADOW POLICE DEPARTMENT: In the past few months we’ve seen many residents fall
victim to the Greendot MoneyPak scam or others similar
in nature. Basically the scammer calls you and claims to
be a bill collector for a legitimate business or service like
a utilities company, the IRS, or bail bondsman. The
scammer then IMMEDIATELY demands payment
through a pre-paid debit card like Greendot MoneyPak.
In short: NEVER pay IMMEDIATELY, or with a pre-
paid debit card. Though pre-paid debit cards like
Greendot MoneyPak are legitimate products, never use
them under the above circumstances. We recommend
you find out the caller’s information and call back number
(which most likely will be fake) and end the call. Call us
to report the suspicious call and we’ll assist you in
determining whether it was a scam or not. NEVER give
out your personal or financial information to an unknown
caller demanding immediate payment!
BE SCAM SMART! MONDAY, APRIL 9, 12:30 Sgt. Michael Jurkowski, from the Longmeadow Police Dept. will discuss current scams, including the one explained above, and he will take time for questions. Please join us and learn to be Scam Smart!

OUR COOK: TERESA TURCOTTE
Spring has finally sprung and I hope you are all dusting yourselves off and getting outdoors. Speaking of dusting, April is a good month for cleaning and airing things out. Our pantry patrons are always grateful for your food donations but they are also in need of cleaning products. Anything that you find useful would be a thoughtful addition to our shelves. That includes kitchen, bathroom, and laundry items.
I also want to thank Glenmeadow, Blueberry Hill School and Storrs Library for their generous donations as well as a huge thank you to Elizabeth Irving and Elaine Weiner for their tireless efforts in supporting the food drives.
Asparagus is one of my favorite spring vegetables. Here is a good tip for saving and storing asparagus: To store for 1 week: wash and place a moist paper towel over cut ends. Place spears in plastic bag and store in fridge. To store for 2-3 days: trim ends, stand spears in 1-2 inches of water, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Enjoy!

Spring has sprung and by now, I've had the opportunity to meet most of the Center’s volunteers, as well as many Meal on Wheels recipients and others in our community. We will continue to get together regularly with our volunteers; it's vital that volunteers have met each other in order to rely on one another as well as for me to learn more about what each of you do.
Jim Leyden and I have been meeting with members of the community to let people know about activities and assistance that is available through the Adult Center. Going forward, we'll be working with clergy and other community agencies to decrease isolation of seniors in Longmeadow. As always, if you have ideas or need assistance, please contact me. ~ Erin
