    Headteacher’s update

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We’ve had another very busy week at school! We began with our whole school assembly,

led by 2S, on the theme of the Hindu festival of Holi. They described this important

celebration, which signifies the arrival of spring and highlights the victory of good over evil,

brilliantly through art, drama and presentation. Well done 2S!

We have all had a fantastic time celebrating ‘National Science Week 2017’ this week with

an action-packed timetable of activities organised by our Science Coordinator Mrs

Burrows. We launched the week with our science themed dress-up day and were so im-

pressed by the amount of effort that had gone into the children’s (and staff’s!) costumes!

This was followed on Tuesday by a visit from the ‘Mad Science’ team who amazed and

entertained and us with a range of fun, hands-on science workshops involving light, forces

    and states of matter.

On Wednesday, all of the children had the opportunity to impress us with their teamwork,

problem-solving and creativity skills as they took part in our STEM challenges! In EY and

KS1 we focused on how to create a rainwater harvesting system to keep our vegetable and

flower beds healthy. In KS2 pupils looked at flooding around the world and were faced with

the challenge of designing and building a model of a flood-proof house.

Throughout the school the children have also been involved in a range of science investiga-

tions including exploring friction, properties of paper, spaghetti and marshmallow struc-

tures, properties of light and how to make raisins dance!

Our newly formed chaplaincy team have carried out their first job in school this week as

they introduced the ‘MAC Prayer Book’ to all of the children. The children have been invited

to create their own prayer to feature in the book – closing date is Monday 20th March.

As the season of Lent continues, the children have all received Fr Hudson’s boxes to fill with

small change. Fr Hudson’s is a Catholic charity who support children, adults and families

throughout the Archdiocese of Birmingham. As part of our charitable work, we are also

collecting clothes (baby, child and adult), books and toys for refugees in our local commu-

nity. If you have any items at home that you could donate, please send into school by Fri-

    day 31st March.

We ended our week with a joyous whole school Mass to celebrate the Feast of St Patrick.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    GARDENING CLUB

Now that spring is here we are in need of a few items for Gardening

Club. If you have spare we would very much appreciate donations of:

Compost that we can give a good home to (required before the end of

    term).

Tomato or strawberry plants or raspberry canes would be much appreci-

ated - even if it is only one (required after the Easter holidays). They all

help and mean we have to buy fewer plants. Thank you.

    CONSIDERATE PARKING

A polite reminder that all vehicles must be parked in compliance with

parking regulations and not blocking access to residential driveways or

preventing the use of pavements. Please remember that obstruc-

tive parking may also mean that the emergency services are una-

ble to reach the school in the event of a genuine emergency.

    SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Today the children will bring home a Scholastic Book magazine. If you

wish to save on postage, please send your order to school by Friday 24th

March, together with a cheque (no cash) made payable to ‘School

Link’. Please quote our order number 20541597 on all orders, and

make sure you complete all details required, including pupil name, class
