Development Matters Statement Links: (M-N6) Sometimes matches numeral and quantity correctly. (M-N20) Selects the correct numeral to represent 1 to 5, then 1 to 10 objects. Year 1 (1N4) Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least. Ideas to meet M-N6 & M-N20: Using this resource: Children to draw lines to match quantities and numerals; at times they may trace the line. In other areas of the classroom: Children find the correct number of objects to match the quantity; children to draw numerals in sand or make it using playdough; children to select the numeral that represents the correct number of objects (up to 10). Suggested links:30-50 months(M-N4) Knows that numbers identify how many objects are in a set.(M-N7) Shows curiosity about numbers by offering comments or asking questions.(PSED-SC2) Welcomes and values praise for what they have done.(CL-LA5) Is able to follow directions (if not intently focused on own choice of activity).(PD-MH7) Draws lines and circles using gross motor movements.

40-60 months(M-N15) Recognises numerals 1 to 5.(CL-LA6) Maintains attention, concentrates and sits quietly during appropriate activity.(CL-LA7) Two-channelled attention, can listen and do for short span.(CL-U5) Responds to instructions involving a two-part sequence.(PD-MH19) Shows a preference for a dominant hand.
