Sequence KineticsTM
Why is Social Collaboration Important for Business Process Management?
1
Analysts such as Gartner
identify that businesses today
must focus on a nexus of
forces to achieve success.
Gartner calls this ‘Extreme
Collaboration’ (XC).
Social is one of the four
elements of Extreme
Collaboration. See http://www.gartner.com/id=2190415
‘Social Network technologies are seen
by companies as a major opportunity
for improving collaboration, managing
knowledge, connecting with clients, and
generally helping individuals to feel part
of a business,’ - Dr. David Good,
Department of Social and
Developmental Psychology
(Cambridge). http://www.cam.ac.uk/research/features/the-business-of-

Request Approved
Change Request
Effects of Change
Manager Approval
Request Denied
R&D Manager approves change request without knowing that
this change has caused problems in the field.
R&D Manager declines request after seeing comment on likely
change effects.
Case B: With Social BPM
Engineer asks Field team if this change
has ever caused issues.
Field Agent has seen this change before and is aware that it causes
problems.
Engineer wants to assess the effects of the change but lacks the ability to consult others.
Background:
A manufacturing company has implemented a BPM solution to manage quality
assurance processes, such as quality testing and defect reporting. The
company found that lack of communication and collaboration between the
production team and the quality control team led to numerous iterations
between the teams and mishandling of defects. The company desires a
social BPM solution to improve the teams’ cooperation with each other.
Social BPM Case Scenario
Solution:
The company selected PNMsoft’s Sequence Kinetics to replace its classic BPM solution which did not provide Social
and Intelligent BPM functionality. Sequence Kinetics enables quality control personnel to add comments to their
processes, and engineers on the production team can ask them questions in real time about their findings. Both
teams reported a better environment of teamwork and collaboration and enhanced information sharing. There were
less iterations between the two teams, cutting down the time to solve defects, and improving product quality.
Benefits:
Better cooperation between teams.
Less frequent errors due to miscommunication.
Less iterations, faster turn-around-time.
Improved product quality.
Benefits of Social BPM
Increase information sharing between members of a team.
Prevent errors – users can warn each other about problems.
Solve issues – users can more easily ask and get answers on issues.
Increase collaborative spirit on team and thereby increase productivity.
Improve collaboration for development teams with comments on processes
Remove “information holes” and “blind spots”.
Reduce process bottlenecks.
Extend social collaboration to mobile devices.
Leverage social media behavior for better
team performance and results.
