Exploring the Features

Modularity Redefined

The 52/MX takes audio mixing to a totallynew level in flexibility. Many different con-trol modules are available – just pick whatyou need for your application. They all fittogether seamlessly and give you the con-trol surface you want. No matter if youneed a mixer for a small editing suite,a live DJ desk, an OB van or even a largescale main control room console – it iseasy to tailor the mixer according tomeet your requirements.

All control modules are connected viastandard CAT 5/6 cables, which provideaudio, power and control data. This givesyou the freedom to place modules in thefurniture as you like, without worryingabout cable lengths. That way, you canbuild the mixer according to the way youwork and not the other way around. Addthe advanced interface capabilities of theTFT multitouch screens and you get atruly flexible audio mixer.

Flexibility for your Application

The Series 52 is not just hardware – the realpower is the configuration. With an easy-to-use Windows software, you can configurethe behaviour of the system to match yourapplication. If things change later on, it isno problem to adapt your installation. Thisis especially useful if a studio needs to sup-port new or changing workflows in thefuture.

Main control, OB van or studio – it is easy tocreate your custom console from the varietyof available control modules.

Every fader strips provides many control ele-ments for quick direct access. The TFT touchscreens show signal levels and settings for eachfader at one glance. Both features are essentialfor mixing live.

The central section provides all features youneed for monitoring, talkback and control –including its own TFT.

The central TFT touch screen shows detailedinformation for selected channels, routingpanels a studio clock and level meters.,

The TFT touch screen is a key element for flexible and direct control of theSeries 52. It performs well when mounted in different places:On top of fader or control modules, stand alone on your desk,as a 52/TXflat or slightly lifted in the furniture or even upright in a rack unit. Using theconfiguration software, you can put many different functions into the TFT.

Mixer control modules in a rack? Use the 52 Series Q-Panel – 1 U high, itgives a solid housing for the modules you need to control monitoring, talkback, routers, etc. Pick the modules you want, find a free slot in a rackand your problem is solved. Whether you use the Q-Panel stand alone or aspart of a larger setup is up to you. In any case, the modules are configuredthe same way – using the Toolbox8 software.

A 52/MX system has three main parts:The DSP core with its audio interfacemodules and its processing power foraudio and control signals, the controlmodules providing the user interface andthe software that makes it all work.

To get a 52/MX system up and running,it is configured using the Toolbox8software. This configuration process istypically done by DHD or your systemintegrator and implements your require-ments into the system. This configurationis what makes your system work. However, if you need to change it lateron, just use the Toolbox8 software againand you are done.

Configuration made easy

The signal processing core of the 52/MX is con-tained in a compact, low power 1 U module. DSPcores from the XC or XD product lines can52/ 2 52/ 2be used. This specialised, rock solid hardware doesall the audio and logic processing in the system.

The new Core modules provide enough processingpower for even the most demanding applications. If necessary, it can handle an audio matrix of8700x7400 signals as a router and up to 64 fullyprocessed faders at the same time.

Our Core systems work without hard discs orbatteries, and there is no PC inside. All I/O modu-les, Concentrators and control surfaces are fanless. This allows silent studio operation and reducesmaintenance to a minimum.

The DSP Core, Heart of the System

The standard system can beenhanced by features which aredemanded in many broadcastenvironments:

• Automix

• 5.1 surround processing

• Delay for each fader channel

• Loudness meters which areshown on the TFT TouchDisplays

You can also use the DHD PCSoftware for Routing or RemoteControl of your console.

The 52/XC Core provides 12 APC-Ports. These2special RJ45-ports connect control modules andI/O boxes to the Core. This connection is made withstandard CAT cables, which carry Audio, Power, andControl signals in the same cable – hence the nameAPC.

This way, your setup benefits from standard CATcabling infrastructure and allows you to place I/Oboxes and control modules where they are needed.

If you need more than 12 APC ports, you can extendthe 52/XC Core with up to 52/XC Concentra2 eight 2 -tors. Each of these modules provides 12 additionalAPC ports and is connected to the 52/XC Core with2a fiber optics cable. Of course, all audio and controldata in the system is available at all APC ports.

12 Faders for On Air Engineers

Just what you need – the mixer for standardstudios or small OB vans. It is straightforwardto use, self-explanatory and a comfortablehasnumber of faders.

No faders, but enough buttons for moni-toring, outside line control and talkback.

Take a CAT5 cable and connect this box toyour DSP core a speaker andif you need“just a few buttons more”.

All features, small footprint. Especially non-technical users have full control without toomuch complexity.

Connectors for audio and control signals are avail-able as XLR-I/O modules with half 19-inch widthand 1 U height. You can choose the matchingdevices for your application and connect them toeach other using C 5/6 cables.AT

There are modules available for interfacing Dante™

or AES67/RAVENNA AoIP streams, MADI, analo-gue and digital audio. All control modules and TFTTouch Displays use Ethernet to communicate withthe Core module.
