environment? • How is the place connected with other
places? • How might common geographic
characteristics help understand this place?

You will be able to revise it later.
Collect maps
Discuss the importance of creating a mental map: -Understanding lessons -Information derived from the maps -How you might use each of your examples in the future - Understanding news reports and current events

• Discuss where to locate maps on the internet
• Other technology to find our own position on earth…
• Demonstrate: – GPS - The Global Positioning System (GPS) tells you where
you are on Earth. – http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/global.html
– GIS Geographic Information Systems - a tool that allows geographers and analysts to visualize data in several different ways in order to see patterns and relationships in a given area or subject. These patterns generally appear on maps but they can also be found on globes or in reports and charts.
