Columbus• 1492- Two month

journey to the “New World”

• Described Indians as “handsome, gentle and generous”

• Treated the natives very harshly, turning them into slaves

• By 1505 he made 4 voyages

• Portugal- South America (Brazil)• France- Canada, Mississippi River Valley looking for fur• England- East coast for settlement
