TOMMY BAHAMA

THE CLIFF

THE CLIFF Craving fish tacos? Walk through Laguna Village, and in the back, you’ll be greeted to unbeatable panoramic ocean views, and The Cliff’s fresh fish tacos. They prepare their version with a generous amount of grilled mahi-mahi, shredded cabbage cilantro, red onion, and roasted salsa with a side of Spanish Rice and Mixed Greens.

TOMMY BAHAMA Hankering for something a little less traditional? Get your island vibes on at Tommy Bahama for Happy Hour and snag their refreshing and light Ahi Tuna Tacos served with fresh ahi tuna, island slaw, and wasabi-avocado crème in between a crispy and delicate wonton shell.

ASADA TACOS & BEER With a clean, modern and industrial feel, an open concept kitchen, and truly exceptional hospitality, Asada Tacos & Beer has it all. The traditional Soft Tacos are a staple, but also order their Signature Crispy Tacos. For you vegetarians out there, we loved the Jalapeño Potato

Veggie, and for meat lovers, the Short Rib was super tender and flavorful. All tacos come with poblano cream, lettuce, jack cheese and pico de gallo, and ordering that crispy shell adds the perfect textural crunch. Don’t forget to ask for their homemade salsas, which add another extraordinary layer of flavor.

TACO LOCO Taco Loco is a no frills, straightforward joint located on PCH that serves affordable and unassuming, yet outstanding tacos. From their Crispy Calamari to their Chicken, all tacos come topped with your choice of salsa (mild, medium, or spicy) and fresh guacamole. Don’t worry, the guac is NOT extra. These bad boys are addicting and luckily, they are open late on weekends. For Cinco de Mayo you can pick up a couple during the day and come back later for quality late night eats.

LA SIRENA GRILL Whether you want a fast grab-and-go taco at the downtown location or a sit-down experience with twenty craft beers on draft at their larger space on South Coast Highway, La Sirena Grill has got you covered. Not only are the tacos delicious, but they are committed to nurturing the environment and practice sustainable and eco-friendly ideals in all their eateries.

COYOTE GRILL After numerous visits, Kim Bryant had fallen in love with Baja, Mexico and wanted to bring a piece of it back home. He opened Coyote Grill and supplies Laguna with locally-sourced Baja-Style Mexican cuisine, a side of ocean views and relaxing, casual vibes. With quintessential proteins like Carne Asada and Fish to the more uncommon Tacos al Carbon and Langostino, Coyote Grill takes their taco game seriously. Their Calamari Tacos are the best seller, which come lightly battered and fried, topped with “secret sauce,” cabbage, cheese, tomato, and cilantro all in between flour tortillas.

Handheld, portable, and flat out delicious, we don't know anyone that doesn't appreciate these small bundles of joy.

Southern California is blessed with a widespread taco scene, but the market is saturated and difficult to decipher through. Not all tacos are created equal, and so we did the hard work for you and rounded up some great spots for all your taco needs. From traditional to fusion, you’ll find what you’re looking for below.

CARMELITA’S Chef de Cuisine Javier Perez creates authentic Mexican cuisine at Carmelita’s with a deluxe sense of flair. He sources fresh ingredients from local vendors at the Laguna Beach Farmer’s Market and works to ensure each dish is of high caliber. The evidence is in the bite, and the Oaxacan Steak Tacos come out sizzling in a cast-iron plate with tender, juicy steak on top, and roasted cheese, onions and portabello mushrooms bubbling underneath. Alongside are warm soft tortillas bundled up and exuding steam waiting for you to build your version of a perfectly sized bite.

RASTA TACO Originally only a made-to-order mobile catering cart, Rasta Taco blessed us by opening their first brick-and-mortar right in downtown Laguna Beach. This casual spot prepares Mexican cuisine infused with Jamaican influence and flavors in everything they serve. Their signature Jamaican Jerk Chicken Taco with seared marinated chicken thighs, chipotle jerk slaw, onions, cilantro and cotija cheese will 100% satisfy. The Papa Jack with crispy potato, jack and sharp cheddar cheese, corn, jicama, zucchini, squash, cilantro, and onions is a great vegetarian option, as well.

AVILA’S EL RANCHITO Avila’s started over 50 years ago when Salvador Avila and his family came from Guanajuato, Mexico. The business remains in the family, keeping the recipes authentic and traditional. At their Laguna Beach location, grab a seat on their bright outdoor patio and go for the Street Tacos, trust us. The carnitas with guacamole, pico de gallo and salsa negra will melt in your mouth.

WHERE YOU SHOULD BE

BRUNCH-ING

KITCHEN IN THE CANYON BRUNCH AVAILABLE EVERYDAY (BREAKFAST

AND LUNCH 7AM—3PM)

Looking for low-key brunch vibes any day of the week? Kitchen in the Canyon is your answer. With a focus on utilizing fresh, local ingredients, chef creates simple and bright Southern-California food in the cozy café nestled, as its name states, within Laguna Beach’s canyons. Order their anything-but-basic Avocado Toast, an artfully made latté, one of their homemade pastries, and sit outside to enjoy the full-wall, custom murals surrounding The Hive complex. Between the beautiful art and your photogenic food, you will have plenty of natural photo opportunities to capture for your ‘gram.

REUNION KITCHEN + DRINK BRUNCH ON WEEKENDS ONLY (STARTS AT 8AM)

In their large, industrial chic space, Reunion Kitchen + Drink redefines American comfort food by innovating on classics in a fresh and creative way. The food menu is expansive with options for everyone, and along with the purchase of an entrée, the restaurant offers Bottomless Mimosas or Champagne for two hours! The restaurant itself is sizeable with ample parking, so it’s also perfect for large groups looking for fun For entrees, we highly suggest the Grilled Breakfast Sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese on sourdough bread—it’s flavorful, buttery, and as deliciously toasted as you may get from those bottomless drinks. For something a bit more adventurous, we also loved the tender and hearty Short Rib Machaca.

Brunch: Is it a noun or verb?

SAPPHIRE LAGUNA BRUNCH ON WEEKENDS ONLY (SATURDAY/SUNDAY 9AM—3PM)

Chef/Owner Azmin Ghahreman has years of culinary international experience, and has successfully brought his expertise under one, unique restaurant for the past ten-plus years. Named after the stone Azmin used when proposing to his wife, Sapphire Laguna emanates that level of love and life throughout. When dining, you are meant to feel like a guest in Ghahreman’s home and through the staff’s genuine passion and belief in the restaurant, they remarkably succeed in providing you with that level of comfort. The food itself is inspired by multinational flavors and ethnicities, and the menu here changes seasonally. For brunch, the Study of Eggs Benedict and Buttermilk Pancakes change every week, allowing you to come back often and eat something new. However, after saying hello to the special Pork Belly Eggs Benedict with Cilantro Hollandaise and Steamed Rice recently, we wish we didn’t have to say goodbye.

NICK’S LAGUNA BEACHBRUNCH ON WEEKENDS ONLY

(BREAKFAST 7:30—11:30AM, LUNCH STARTS 11AM)

Committed to quality and excellence for almost ten years now, Nick’s Laguna Beach achieves just that by serving straightforward yet superbly executed New-American and California-inspired comfort cuisine. Customers come back for signatures like the Fried Chicken & Waffle with fried chicken, salty bacon, airy and slightly crispy waffle, and a decadently creamy sausage gravy. The El Jefe Breakfast Burrito sure is the boss with a big size but even bigger flavor; the ingredients all work together beautifully in this ultimate brunch dish. Can’t decide between coffee or a cocktail? At Nick’s, you don’t have to. Their signature Spanish Café Carajillo has Licor 43, Espresso, and one large King Cube, making for an unassuming yet dangerously addictive drink.

Is it breakfast or lunch? At what time is it too early or too late to call it brunch? These are all questions swirling around the trendy, socially driven phenomenon. While the answers are up for debate, one thing is for sure: we have the top spots that should be on your radar.

Scenic restaurants

more than just a view

Picture Perfect: An enchanted beach town, with a picturesque nature that naturally breeds spots with "picture perfect" moments.

THE DECKLaguna’s only restaurant in Laguna Beach located right on the sand, this restaurant takes the definition of oceanfront views to the next level. The Deck is loved by both locals and tourists because of its classic and comfortable beach atmosphere. While you

get treated to that million-dollar view, you will pay very reasonable prices to enjoy excellent food and drinks. The food here is focused on fresh seafood, and if you know what’s good for you, you will order at least a dozen of their daily catch oysters for your table.

THE LOFT AT MONTAGE LAGUNA BEACH The Montage Laguna Beach is a town institution, known for its relaxed yet sophisticated feel. Their level of hospitality is impeccable, and you will simultaneously feel like royalty and family when here. The Loft, their comfortable New American restaurant, is no exception to this standard. Chef de Cuisine Michael Campbell serves creative and quality fare that reflects the light and refreshing tastes that define Southern Californian cuisine. Accompanied by gorgeous panoramic views, you will be in wonder of their beautifully designed resort and mosaic pool, which sprawls out into views of the coastline and ocean.

THE ROOFTOP LOUNGE Atop La Casa del Camino hotel, The Rooftop Lounge has clear, gorgeous views of the Pacific. As you walk through the hotel and make your way up to the rooftop, you’ll notice the Spanish inspiration, which also comes through in their fusion California cuisine. Nosh on some Bacon Wrapped Dates, and order yourself a drink as you absorb the sunshine and fresh ocean air. The only tough decision you’ll have to make is between the spectacular wine and cocktail choices. While all are great, they are well-known for their signature Mojitos with palm cane sugar and fresh fruit.

SKYLOFT When you arrive at Skyloft head straight up to the rooftop for fun vibes, stunning views, and buzzing music, but stay for the even better food and drink options that have a distinctly southern-inspired charm attached to them. The decadent and hearty Fried Chicken Stack with a side of their Loaded Crawfish & Peppers Mac n’ Cheese are a must! As for drinks, we’d recommend either the Georgia Peach Cobbler or Bourbon Mimosa. Skyloft also has the highest view out of the restaurants on this guide, producing sweeping views of the ocean and the gorgeous landscape behind it.

LAS BRISAS Located in a historical, landmark building that was once the Victor Hugo Inn, Las Brisas overlooks the beach, snugly tucked into Heisler Park. While the outside generates a characteristic charm reminiscent of quaint beach communities, the inside of Las Brisas tells its own story. They have recently renovated the dining room into a modern, sea-inspired airy space. Past the décor, Las Brisas delivers elevated Californian-Mexican fare, with a focus on bringing an excellent sea-to-table experience. Start with the Oysters on the Half Shell for a sumptuous and creamy bite that’s cut by the acidity and freshness of their Watermelon Mignonette. We also love their take on Ahi Tacos, Lobster Carbonara, and Surf and Turf Enchiladas.

While we want to believe all restaurants are as great as they claim, that would be naïve. The natural beauty and charm of Laguna Beach can be dissuading, but this is not enough to disguise subpar food. As people led by our stomachs in pursuit for fantastic culinary experiences, we have created a guide to help you decipher which restaurants have both beautiful views and quality food.

230 FOREST AVENUE Open since 1996, 230 Forest Avenue is a Laguna Beach dining institution. Not only does this spot have its own clout to speak to its excellence, Chef/owner Marc Cohen continues to modernize California cuisine by regularly sourcing the finest ingredients and innovating on his already delicious menu. We love Cohen’s take on the Tuna Tartare as this starter was spicy, sweet, tangy, and a beautifully refreshing appetizer to start with. One absolute must that’s been on the menu since the restaurant opened: their Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding. Fresh chocolate croissants are delivered to the restaurant, then deconstructed into a new, creamy bread pudding mixture, and then paired with vanilla ice cream, a whiskey anglaise and seasonal berries. It is divine and a perfectly sweet ending to your date.

CENTRAL Central is snugly situated right on Forest Avenue in the center of Laguna’s downtown, living up to its own name. Chef Michael Campbell has brought his experience and innovative spirit to bring eclectic contemporary cuisine with a Peruvian flair. Central also takes great pride in creating their signature cocktails, the ultimate precursor to a date. If you’re looking for an extra lush dinner, they also waive the corkage fee on your first bottle of wine as long as it’s not one on their menu.

WATERMARC Known as a “dining experience at its greatest height,” Watermarc has set itself up for a date night success story. The interior is chic and modern, surrounded by dark woods and ambient lighting. Grazing plates, unique and quality bites to share, constitute a large part of the menu. The drink list is expansive to say the least, with wine, beer, classic and original cocktails, a dedicated martini section, signature whiskey cocktails, and a premium selection whiskey cabinet. It’s even aptly located in downtown Laguna, specifically next to the picturesque Peppertree Lane, a prime place for romantic strolls before or after dinner.

OCEAN AT MAIN Chef and owner Craig Strong has worked worldwide in luxury hotels for the past twenty-five years, but made his way back to his Southern California roots and opened his own spot; and boy we are thankful he did. Strong’s coastal California cuisine is excellent, and the menu reflects and utilizes his international experience and expertise along with his love for fresh produce and home community. The food and beverage program itself will impress your date, but the space is also a standout. It’s bright and open, relaxed yet refined, and will make for a perfect photo opportunity on date night.

OAK Executive Chef Chris Tzorin and the team he calls family have thoughtfully created a modern yet rustic California experience that makes for an ideal date. Start your evening with one of their ocean-inspired craft cocktails and savor each sip as you watch the sunset over the Pacific. Then order sensational plates to share, and let the night unfold as you experience locally sourced California comfort food. Did we mention that the team is so committed to fresh produce that the menu changes with the seasons? That way you can keep your meals exciting and continuously try new things together.

MARO WOOD GRILL This modern Argentinian steakhouse takes traditional mesquite fire grilling to the next level by taking this culinary influence and pairing it with the simplicity and health-conscientiousness of the Southern California palette. With this unique and pointed focus, Maro delivers astounding options for a lovely meal. Anything cooked on their open fire grill, like their Grilled Shishito Peppers with Horseradish Aioli, provide a distinct smoky flavor and are delicious starters to share. Want to make a truly memorable impression? Their Ribeye Cap Steak comes from the end piece of ribeye that is both rare to obtain and a mind-blowingly tender section that will leave you very satisfied.

Date Night: Laguna Beach is a whimsically romantic city all on its own, but you can't just bring your date here, twiddle your thumbs and expect them to be swept away.

You still have to bring your a-game, and luckily for you, we’ve got the insider info on where to charm your no. 1 all year long. You can thank us later.

ZÉYTOON CAFÉ Many people swear by the “Mediterranean Diet,” but at Zéytoon, it’s not a diet but a lifestyle that commits to providing rich and authentic food with beneficial health properties. Zéytoon directly translates to “olive,” which comes through in their culture and cuisine. As a central flavor in Mediterranean cooking, the owners of Zéytoon incorporate this along with other fresh, quality ingredients to produce food you’ll love to eat. Order their Mezza Platter with comfortingly warm pita bread, some of the best hummus we’ve had, and lebni, which, although tastes creamy and decadent, has tons of healthy probiotics.

ACTIVE CULTURE As both a natural foods café and frozen yogurt bar, Active Culture is another great grab and go spot. This family-owned spot truly has the local community in mind by serving conscious, affordable food. The portions are generous and filling, and all the options are creative. Active Culture is also the ideal spot when you have a sweet craving needing to be satisfied. With delicious frozen yogurt flavors that change each month and a myriad of options at their toppings bar, you can always try something new.

URTH CAFFÉ You may already know of Urth Caffé, which has garnered great admiration and a loyal following in Southern California. What you may not know, however, is that the owners were originally invested solely in producing coffee and tea. When visiting this ever-popular spot, do not miss out on their organic and creative drinks. The Honey Vanilla Latte is wonderfully luscious and can be made even healthier when you substitute regular milk for almond milk. Their Rising Sun Boba will taste like an indulgent dessert, but this matcha green tea, espresso and dark chocolate-based drink is a healthy energy drink, packed with three powerful antioxidants. The food menu is extensive, ensuring you will find what your heart and stomach desire.

ZINC CAFÉ & MARKET Zinc’s Café & Market is a favorite neighborhood gem, housing various options for people in need of quality and healthy food. You can walk into their café, order from their all-vegetarian menu, grab a seat in their relaxing outdoor patio space, and feel at ease. You can also head straight to their market and grab gourmet food to-go. In addition, the Market houses specialty goods and various items that Zinc vets and supports, making it easy to stay healthy at home.

THE STAND NATURAL FOOD RESTAURANT The Stand is the one spot in town that is 100% vegan, and it’s so good, you won’t miss meat. The place itself emanates and encapsulates 1970s vibes, from when the restaurant was originally established. They have a plethora of acai bowls, like the Thalia Surfer Bowl, making for a perfect morning meal. Craving something savory? The Avocado Sandwich is creamy yet crisp and light. For sharing, their Bean Rice and Guacamole Dip has great depth of flavor with layers of corn chips, brown rice, pinto beans, and salsa, then topped with guacamole. For dessert, The Stand has all-natural and super refreshing fruit soft serves that will be all satisfaction and zero guilt.

CATMOSPHERE Whoever said eating healthy food is boring, clearly has never been to Catmosphere Laguna. This café offers the classic toasts, salads, and drinks, but they also give customers the opportunity to play and cuddle with cute cats and kittens. While quite out of the box, remember that health encompasses more than just what you eat, and so Catmosphere could be a favorable de-stressor for your mental health as well. PIZZA BJ’S RESTAURANT & BREWHOUSE Kids sing the praises of pizza and parents love the selection at BJ’s. This isn’t your typical frozen pizza, but rather a deep-dish concoction of a perfect crust, creative toppings, and perfectly melted cheese. Mini personal pizzas in the typical selection of cheese or pepperoni are great for kids while specialty pizzas, salads, and draft beers will please the adult palate. This location is right across from Main Beach for a walk on the boardwalk after dining.

BURGER JOINT RUBY’S Step back in time and enjoy a fun dining experience on red chairs at Ruby’s Diner. Kids will love seeing the classic cars on display at Ruby’s. Save your pennies for the penny gumball machine! Hamburgers and shakes are the top ticket items at this ‘50s style restaurant and the prices are beneficial. This restaurant is in a prime location with Ruby’s just a short walk away from Treasure Island Park and beach access to a sea arch.

DESSERT DOLCE GELATO Don’t miss some of the best gelato and ice cream here at Laguna Beach. Gelato Paradiso is tucked down “Peppertree Lane.” Let your nose guide you to the fresh made waffle cones. Right across from Main Beach is Chantilly Ice Cream where the selections are fresh and delicious. Stop to enjoy the local buskers under the hanging gate. Another great option is Dolce Gelato, and the array of concoctions they make onsite daily. These treats make walking the streets of Laguna Beach all that sweeter.

STEAL A PIZZAMY HEART

SLICE This charming downtown pizza joint is a newer establishment and is located in a building that’s in the shape of a slice of pizza. They have a fantastic dough recipe and 7,000lb. Italian import oven primed that churns out (large) personal pies daily. Slice offers creative classics, daily specials, as well as the ability to build the personal pizza of your dreams. They even have a “pay as you pour” beer and wine wall, where you’re given a wristband, a glass, and free reign to drink and taste all their options. What are you waiting for? Head on over there and start this tour!

WINE GALLERY Next up is Chris Olsen’s cozy restaurant and coming here on the pizza tour was the perfect way to simultaneously wine-d down and enjoy delicious wood fire pizza. We ordered the classic Calabrese Pizza and the Pizza of the Day, which changes daily, and both paired effortlessly with a red wine from Olsen’s extensive and excellent selection.

NEAPOLITAN PIZZERIA & BIRRERIA This funky, hip establishment where they passionately curate high-quality ingredients to deliver Napolean style, wood-fired pizza. We highly recommend trying the Blackberry and Pesto Bacon Pizzas, pizzas as they were both the most unique and paired quite well together. The Blackberry Pizza was both sweet and salty, while the Pesto Bacon Pizza was a creamier savory option. They were also topped with lightly dressed arugula so essentially you get a pizza and salad in one They have their own parking lot, and the outdoor patio is a gorgeous space with sneak peaks of the ocean.

GINA’S PIZZA This spot is home to the 14-inch “Biggaslice” pizza. A sign in the front read, “Go ahead we dare you to try and finish this,” and well, I’m not one to back down on a dare. When ordering this slice, it is baked fresh to order and takes about 7—8 minutes. It’s certainly worth the wait. The thinness and crispiness of the crust, the cheese to sauce ratio, and perfect amount of grease brought us right back.

We, at Visit Laguna Beach highly recommend you do the same; you know, to properly honor this amazing comfort food in all its various forms, shapes, and sizes.

PIZZA BAR

ALESSA Next up is the quintessentially romantic Italian restaurant: Alessa by Chef Pirrozi. Before being seated, you’re sure to be greeted with a warm “ciao” and pure Italian vibes. We ordered the Burrata e Melenzane Pizza. Following our order, bread and salsa verde arrived at the table, both of which are made fresh every morning and not to be ignored. Chef Pirozzi prides himself in using fresh ingredients, including herbs right from his own garden, and that truly shines through in the pies.

PIZZA BAR This spot is located one block away from the beach, making for an ideal grab and go situation. Whether you’re in the mood for a slice, personal or large pie, Pizza Bar has got plenty of options. We ordered the Italiano with sausage, pepperoni, bell peppers, and mushrooms and journeyed straight to the sand to eat and contemplate all the dough, cheese, sauce, and toppings devoured throughout the day.

O FINE JAPANESE CUISINE Prepare your stomach for the copious amounts of food coming your way. With Set C, you get both a soup and salad, 7-piece Chef’s Choice Nigiri Sushi, Japanese Burrito (a bundle of joy with spicy tuna, krab, shrimp tempura avocado, Sriracha, spicy mayo and eel sauce), Crispy Rice topped with Spicy Tuna, and a 4-piece California Roll. Don’t be suspicious of the price tag though. The restaurant is committed to serving high-grade, fresh fish, and they regularly source most of their fish right from Tsukiji Market in Tokyo.

SAN SHI GO If you’ve traveled to Tokyo, you’ll be immediately transported back as you enter San Shi Go. Once you’re seated, you’ll be presented with an array of beautifully filleted fish in their glass display case and you can hear about the cut and origin source. From the buttery, melt in your mouth O-Toro (Fatty Tuna) from Spain, to the rich umami packed A5 Wagyu Beef from Miyazaki, Japan, San Shi Go is a true treat. They offer the classics, seasonal recommendations, and two different Omakases. Although their location is discreetly hidden, there were people waiting outside to enter before they officially opened for dinner service at 5:00pm. For good reason, too—this place will leave you both very satisfied while simultaneously wanting more.

OKURA ROBATA GRILL & SUSHI BAR Okura Robata Grill & Sushi Bar is a trendy spot with excellent vibes. In addition to their large restaurant space and full bar, they have an expansive outdoor patio where you can dine al-fresco. This place has lots of cocktail options, a great happy hour, and even an all-you-can-eat option if you want to indulge. Come with your crew and enjoy listening to trendy house and electronic dance music, while slinging back sake and stylish sushi bites.

STARFISH LAGUNA Starfish Laguna breaks the mold, delivering unique Asian-Fusion dishes, highlighting ingredients and flavors from various Asian cultures. From vegetarian dishes like the light and refreshing Singapore Bamboo Roll and the tangy and savory Sichuan Japanese Eggplant, to pescatarian dishes like their tropical Lobster Macadamia Roll and near perfect Chilean Seabass with Thai Green Curry, you will 100% keep coming back for more. Furthermore, Starfish has a truly impressive and sizeable Opium Happy Hour Menu (3—6pm daily), making it an ideal spot for a date or group gathering.

242 CAFÉ FUSION SUSHI Chef/owner Miki Izumisawa is the artist that presents her labor of love masterpieces, course by course, plate by plate. Whimsical and mind-blowingly creative, Izumisawa takes the idea of traditional Japanese sushi and flips it on its head to invent original, almost too pretty to eat (almost) creations. Her Yellowtail Passionfruit Nigiri with Cilantro, Aji Amarillo and Hibiscus Garlic Sauce is both pure innovation and

scrumptiousness. This along with all her other art-like dishes have dynamic flavor profiles with multiple layers that hit you separately while collectively converging for one beautiful bite. With only 21 seats, you’ll get to admire Chef Miki and her all-female staff operate like a well-oiled machine with an equal sense of spontaneity and routine-focus. Note: If you ask for soy sauce, you will be denied.

Influenced by the abundance of fresh produce from the region and the creativity and artfulness of the city, Laguna Beach has a strong and unique sushi scene.

Whether you’re craving a simple spicy tuna roll or crazy fusion nigiri sushi, this town is crawling with sensational, underrated spots that will for sure (maki) you (soy) happy.

Craving something a little heartier? The market also sells tamales, empanadas, and made-to-order crepes. Good luck choosing, because we promise you it won’t be easy. Besides the market showcasing some of the best vendors, it is truly a community. Aly Rose Nava from Sunny Cal’s informed us that the different producers have a great relationship and trade, “If I want some hummus over there, then I give him some oranges,” a common practice originating from the original markets. Whether you need a snack to satisfy your hunger, or you want to bring back worthy souvenirs, come explore and support this slice of Laguna Beach.

Pro Tip: There is free parking in the Lumberyard Lot 12 from 8:00am—12noon for your market needs.

Next, be sure to check out Blessed Booch, an artisanal kombucha company. Kombucha is the new trending drink that many people in the health industry are raving about for its multiple health properties. Owner Christy Rumbaugh is from Laguna Beach and became passionate about this “super tea” years ago. She works with a local network to create small, first-rate batches. For example, the rosemary in the Watermelon + Rosemary Kombucha is wild gathered right from Laguna Beach. Unlike many of the kombuchas on larger supermarket shelves, Rumbaugh uses concentrated structured crystal water, organic teas and organic cane sugar. Regardless, Blessed Booch simply tastes great and is a lovely drink to sip on as you walk through the market. Ask them for a “Booch Tasting Flight” so you can try all the flavors to see which one is your favorite. Ours is the Carrot, Tangerine, and Turmeric.

When you arrive, you’ll be immediately drawn to the brightness of citrus fruits. We encourage you to chat with the folks from Sunny Cal Farms, as they grow the freshest fruit for each season, and they specialize in cultivating all-organic and natural hybrids including Cara Cara Oranges, a beautifully, sweet and juicy mix between an orange and pomelo. Before buying, you can sample everything they sell, and co-owner Shaun Rosendahl will encourage you to do so because he is passionate and confident in the produce they provide. This is the move to make, trust us. If your stomach can’t handle all their samples, then definitely make sure you start with the Coconut Roasted Almonds or Cold-Pressed Pomegranate Juice.

We want to let you in on one of the town’s best-kept gems: the Laguna Beach Farmer’s Market. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, this small, yet packed area is where you want to be on Saturday mornings from 8:00am—12noon, rain or shine. From fresh fruits and vegetables to artisan feta-based spreads, the Laguna Beach Farmers’ Market will have almost anything and everything you need. Cold-pressed juice? Avocado oil? Organic eggs? Italian cheeses? This market has it all.

This city is well-known for many of its facets, including its dreamy beaches and love of art.

While these popular attractions are quite special, Laguna Beach should also be known for its commitment to supporting local producers and farmers with unique and high-quality product.

MARINE ROOM TAVERN The oldest bar in Laguna Beach and one of the longest operating in Orange County, Marine Room is a bar with a history. It started as a local’s hangout where everyone knew your name and your drink order, and it gained popularity as Laguna Beach felt the rise of tourism hit her shores. Though ownership has changed several times throughout the decades, it has constantly held onto that “hometown” feel. Though small, Marine Room packs quite a punch; grab a cue and pick up a game of pool, chill in high back chairs and listen to a live band or take up residency at the bar and enjoy a whiskey flight.

NIGHTLIFE

The NIGHT is young

THE WHITE HOUSE Located on PCH, The White House is not easily missed as it’s located in the heart of the downtown village and is loved by locals and visitors alike. With a steady flow of an eclectic crowd wandering in and out as the night wanes into the morning, The White House increases in fun and energy. With an unfussy bar menu and a mix of popular dance music, it is a bar that knows how to burn the midnight oil. During Prohibition, this bar was one of the popular speakeasies that served rum that was floated in on boats landing on Main Beach and Fisherman’s Cove. The White House is the oldest bar in Orange County (1918) and if you venture to the back alley behind the building you can still see the old speakeasy entrance from prohibition.

Best for: A no fuss bar menu where you’ll know what every drink on the menu is. Check out: The back-alley entrance, it used to be the secret entrance to the bar during Prohibition.Known for: Casual environment and cheap beers.Parking: Street parking surrounding the restaurant. Meters are free after 7pm. Also check varied city lots here.

Park your car in the downtown village of Laguna Beach and explore these varied locations on foot, as each has their own party flavor.

Enjoy a traditional bar, or go for a new swanky club, or kick back with the hipsters and listen to live music, or even better, hit them all. Whatever kind of night you’re looking for, you can find it in the downtown village after sunset.

THE SANDPIPER Walking from the beach with sand still on your feet, wander into The Sandpiper, or as the locals call it “The Dirty Bird” because here it doesn’t matter who you are, or what you’re wearing, all are welcome if you’re ready for a stiff drink and a good time. Chuck Harrell and his brother Chip have owned the bar for nearly five decades without really changing a thing. There’s still old military paraphernalia, surfboards, stickers, posters and flags haphazardly decorating the wood paneled walls. Behind the bar expect

straight forward drinks and heavy pours. At any time expect the bar to be full of locals and plenty of tourists wandering in. Also expect to see owner behind the bar slinging beers, with live music and dancing every night.

Best for: ShotsTry: Not to drink too muchKnown for: A rip-roaring good timeParking: Street parking surrounding the venue on both sides of PCH.

Best for: A stiff drink and live local bandsTry: The locally brewed Greeter AleKnown for: The specialty cocktail, “1923,” this is a unique spin on a New York sour made with Red Siren Zinfandel (which is made in Laguna Beach).Parking: Metered street parking and pay city lots.

SKYLOFT Taking over the upper level of the Tommy Bahama building, they have a diverse space that includes a rooftop bar with views of PCH and Main Beach. The sleek booths and tables in the restaurant border the modern bar, in the center of the space, stylized with white waves. The bar is smartly placed at the center of the restaurant where the heart of the energy of Skyloft originates from. A few tables flank the bar with views from the walls of windows down onto PCH. Deeper into the restaurant, Skyloft has a stage and lounge area making it one of the newest live music

BRUSSELS BISTRO On weekends, this Belgian Restaurant clears out the tables and transforms into the only nightclub in Laguna Beach. Since it is subterranean with no windows, it lends itself to that dark and intimate club environment. The owners have a curated a rotating list of popular DJs from LA and Orange County that have their finger on the pulse of the latest dance music. Expect to pay a cover and some nights there is a dress code of no denim, and dresses preferred for the women. But, this isn’t always required, so ladies if you’re wearing pants, enter at your own risk.

Best for: An authentic Belgian beer.Try: Don’t leave without having a Belgian beer (did we mention that already?)!Known for: DJs spinning house and deep house musicParking: Street parking surrounding the restaurant. Meters are free after 7pm. Also check varied city lots here.

MOZAMBIQUE With the moon looming overhead a two-story building that glows in the night’s light, Mozambique is hard to miss. It is one of the most popular live music venues in town. On the ground level they have an award-winning restaurant, upstairs, a bar and lounge area flank a packed stage area. Up one more level to the third, you’ll find a rooftop with a quieter bar and views of PCH and the Pacific Ocean. Mozambique hosts diverse musical offerings from the ‘80s pop group Flock of Seagulls to chart-topping reggae bands, and local favorites including Nick I. They also provide complimentary rides to guests within a three-mile radius.

THE 10 Best CocktailsOn the Rocks

THE “1934” The Marine Room

This Laguna Beach spin on a New York sour is named “1934” for the year The Marine Room first opened. It’s made with Eagle Rare Whiskey and topped with Laguna’s own Red Siren Zinfandel. The organic egg white foam creates the perfect airy backdrop to showcase the 1934 wine-stamp.

LAPU LAPU Royal Hawaiian The restaurant’s signature tropical libation features dark overproof four-island blend rum, aged martinican rum agricole, passion fruit

puree, lemon juice, orange juice, dark Jamaican rum float.

THE CALI COOLER The Deck

This is the go-to drink for locals dropping by The Deck for music or a sunset cocktail. It features Hendrick’s Gin, Shishito peppers, cucumber, lime-sour, ginger beer, and mint—creating a fresh flavor profile that goes down all too quickly when paired with a perfect sunset view.

THE SUNBURN Tommy Bahama Laguna Beach

WE HAVE PICS FOR EACH. 10 of the BEST COCKTAILS IN TOWN. (in no particular order!)

BLACKBERRY LAVENDER WHISKEY MOSCOW MULE Nirvana Grille

Laguna Beach born and raised Chef Lindsay Smith-Rosales knows flavors and this drink (which she designed)

shows it. The blackberries offer the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Lavender and ginger beer are both light flavors too, making this one of the most refreshing whisky drinks in town.

PLEIN AIR Ocean at Main

Chef Craig Strong has long been respected for the way that he draws inspiration from the culture of the places he has visited and lived. This cocktail is no exception. Named after the artists that originally founded Laguna Beach in the 1800s by painting it’s landscape out in the open air (Plein Air), it combines the caramel flavors of Old Forester Bourbon, homemade apricot puree, sage syrup and lemon. It’s garnished, and served, with a smoking sprig of sage that smells like the sage-covered hills of the Laguna Beach canyon memorialized in many Plein Air paintings.

CITY HALL MARTINI The Lumberyard Restaurant

Walk into the Lumberyard any day of the week and you’re bound to see the movers and shakers of Laguna Beach. It’s long been the go-to spot for city officials, business owners and artists to meet, so it’s fitting that one of their signature drinks is the “City Hall Martini.” Made with only three ingredients: Absolute Citron, Grapefruit Juice and lemon-lime sugar, this shaken martini is straightforward and refreshing.

WYLAND’S “WHALE TAIL” MARGARITA Las Brisas

Las Brisas has 10 signature Margaritas, including this special one that is dedicated to the renowned environmental artist, Wyland. This tasty margarita mixes Tres Sietes Silver, Blue Curaco, agave nectar and muddled citrus. Proceeds from these drinks also go to the Wyland Foundation.

SARDINIAN SPRITZ Broadway by Amar Santana

Chef Amar Santana’s flagship restaurant is inspired by the local farms and the fresh ingredients they provide. This cocktail takes the refreshing spritz to a perfectly balanced level mixing lemon oils and lavender blossoms with Mulassano Bianco Vermouth, Bresca Dorada Mirto Verde and sparkling wine.

ORGANIC WHITE PEACH COLLINS 230 Forest Avenue

230 Forest has taken the Tom Collins and has reimagined it into the perfect drink to pair with a beachside escape. Starting

with Hanson of Sonoma organic vodka that is then mixed with fresh white peach puree Collins mix and peche de vigne and served in an eye-catching glass, the Organic White Peach Collins, looks as good as it tastes.
