August 1988 - Celebrating 30 years . . . and counting For a small family business that began during the damp and cold winter of 1987/88, thirty years is quite a significant milestone. In those days Patchings was simply a group of redundant farm buildings, with a short muddy entrance drive off the Oxton Road.Any enterprise striving to fulfill a vision, will appreciate this would be only the beginning of the story. During the thirty years there have been many mainly unplanned opportunities. The timeline below and selection of images is indication of our 30 year story so far. Throughout we have tried to maintain three principals:- * To provide an environment ‘for the enjoyment of art’. * A free to all entrance policy.* To promote and explore fresh ideas in what we provide.
As a family business our gratitude and appreciation goes to the extended Patchings Family, Team Members (some who have been with us throughout and beyond), Club Members and Volunteers, along with of course our customers, visitors and friends.Liz, Pat, Chas, Rachel and Gary.
As part of our celebration year we have arranged a number of special events and exhibitions. There are full details published within these pages, but do keep up to date through our website and/or subscribe to our monthly email NEWS.Our sincere thanks also to the 1000’s of artists who have been an integral part of the Patchings journey, both through exhibitions and events, and the Patchings Festival which celebrates 25 years, this year. A particular thanks to the many who are contributing to this special year.

30 Artists for 30 Years
From our opening in 1988, the Barn Gallery has
been the centre piece of Patchings, allowing us to
freely share with visitors the work of artists. It has
been a great pleasure to invite a selection of 30
artists who have shown work at Patchings over the
last 30 years. Our thanks to those who have agreed
to let us have work for our celebrations. We are sorry
for not having sufficient room for the many more
who have helped make the Barn Gallery such a
succesful and popular space. We won’t forget you!

friends. This year is no different!
We welcome all shapes and sizes of Britain’s
favourite cuddly toy. Look out for those whose
owners like to make sure their teddies are the height
of fashion dressed in their going out clothes.

“Patchings has been over a great number of years a
tremendous driving force and inspiration, not only
to me but to many many other artists. Needless
to say, I am absolutely delighted and grateful to
be given this opportunity to exhibit my work at
such a highly regarded and unique Art Centre.
As I review my work and consider the content for
this exhibition - creating contrast and promoting
the value of light is a constant - hence the title”.
Meet the Artist - Kelv will be working in
the Barn Gallery on Sunday 27 May.

Nottingham and Notts Photographic Society Annual Exhibtion 2018
A photographic print exhibition in colour and
monochrome by members of The Nottingham
& Notts Photographic Society. The Society was
founded in 1892 and has a long reputation of
providing exhibitions that promote the artistry of
photography. Their 2018 exhibition continues the
tradition, showing a variety of subjects with many
different techniques, allowing members of NNPS
to show their photographic skills at their best.
Patchings aims to encourage and promote the
enjoyment of art. This year we have set aside
the Spring Bank Holiday Sunday to do just that.
A variety of ‘have a go’ activities are on offer
for all ages and abilities with the simple aim of
allowing visitors to be creative. We invite you
to come along and enjoy these sessions.
Thanks to our Studio Artists and Club
Members for their active support.

Open Studios & Hands On
We join the National Garden Scheme for one
day this year with a focus on the treasures that
nature provides. As we celebrate 30 years, we
are reminded that before 1988 the 50 acres of
Patchings were fields of crops. The trees, plants
and shrubs, including the tranquil trails and our
‘Monet pond’ and bridge all have arrived since.
Why not extend your visit and be creative yourself.

The Artist & Leisure Painter Exhibition
Many hundreds of artists, both professional and
amateur, have once again submitted entries for this
year’s Open Art Competition organised in partnership
with The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines. The
selected entries from the UK and overseas form two
major exhibitions opening with the Festival. The
range of talent, skill and imagination behind the
work on show clearly illustrates why these are two
of the most popular exhibitions in our programme.
