“This course has a great reputation at British Airways, and it was an honor to be on it. The experience was excellent. The professors brought theory to life with up-to-date, relevant business examples. They gave straight answers and were very open about their own past mistakes in business and what they had learned from them, which made the experience very genuine and valuable.

We were encouraged to share our own business issues and the coaching sessions helped us arrive at solutions. I could immediately apply the techniques I learned to my own workplace—the techniques are brilliant in their simplicity, and they work.

Now I have a sophisticated method for influencing and creating a positive impact. It was one of the best courses I’ve been on.”

“Beyond 70 years of performance and passion, Ferrari stands for the highest innovation and continuous improvement, embracing competition and driving for disruption. Ferrari is a curious organization, eager to learn from others and best practices. So it is key for us to be in touch with the rest of the world.

Together with the team of Ashridge, we not only shared learnings but also received insights on the latest technology developments, innovations, trends, and customer expectations in the world of hi-tech, luxury, and design.

The program allowed us to engage with peers from leading innovation companies and leaders in their respective fields, to learn from each other’s digital challenges. And finally, to work with a highly diversified, international group of participants on the Ferrari digital case-challenge. We could not have imagined a better approach. The caliber and diversity of innovation that sparked out of this program are inspiring.”

“I wanted to make the move from

operations into general management, but

feared I would only be seen as an introverted

engineer. After my program, I was a lot more

confident, and I was promoted to a global

management role at the BBC.”

“I came back with actionable ideas to improve both myself as a leader and the business. I’ve already used what I’ve learned to re-evaluate our customer segmentation and better align our messaging strategy to meet their various needs. Internally, we’ve also reviewed how we’re communicating across global offices as a direct result of the cross-cultural communications session. I feel like I understand how to use each person’s strengths to build a stronger team.

The instructors struck the perfect balance in creating valuable yet memorable lessons. Sessions were dynamic and engaging and challenged all of us to reconsider how we’re organizing teams, evaluating new market opportunities, and thinking from the consumer’s perspective. Attending the course as a team was so beneficial—we all returned with a shared vision to drive the business forward. I would definitely recommend it.”

“I’d been in my job in operations for over five years, and there was very little left for me to learn. I wanted to make the move from operations into general management, but feared I would only be seen as an introverted engineer.

The Management Development Program taught me that you don’t have to be an extrovert to lead. I realized management styles can be very different but equally effective. Good leadership and creative solutions can come from anyone, even the quietest person in the corner.

The program was an excellent overview in leadership and strategy. Many participants were making that step from operations to management, and so I learned from their experiences as well.

After my program, I was a lot more confident, and I was promoted to a global management role at the BBC. Now I regularly use what I learned on the program at work. I understand why people behave in certain ways, and how to adjust my communication style accordingly. This is essential, especially when dealing with high-pressure projects and conflict.”

“I lead over 300 people indirectly across three hospitals, but I had never before had any formal training. I wanted the Senior Executive Program to help me be a more effective strategist and leader, both in my current role but also in future roles I might have.

On the program, I was very impressed by the knowledge of the faculty. They shared so many tools that they’d tried and tested themselves in the business world. Plus, the delivery and experiential learning process really helped to park the knowledge in my brain for the long term.

My final project explored how we could improve processes at my company by communicating more effectively across our three hospitals. I followed the model I learned on the program and put so much of what I learned into practice. Now, this project is a central part of the future thinking of the company.

After the program, I created a formal, written strategy with built-in checkpoints. We now respond better to changes, and have a sense of unity and purpose because people see how they link together.

I’m now a far more self-aware leader, and am equipped with a fantastic toolkit which will enable me to adapt and respond to challenges I face.”

“Before I had a reputation as a good

‘number two’, but now I’m seen as a leader. I

now know what I’m good at, so I can plan my

career around that. My aim is to be a partner

and it’s an excellent program, which has

equipped me for that.”

“I needed to develop my broader strategic skills as the next step in my development, as for many of us at PwC our careers are built on technical expertise. I saw this program as ‘an MBA in 10 days’, with a particular focus on strategy and leadership.

The sessions were extremely thought-provok-ing. For example, we had one about risk, run by a former professional gambler. We did useful work around strategy tools and also a business simulation which brought together all the elements; strategy, team dynamics, and personal development.

It’s an open program, which means you get a broad range of perspectives. You get huge value from peer discussions with other participants in the group. At the same time, the program is very much focused on you as an individual, and what you can do to get results. This is supported by psychometric testing and one-to-one coaching.

It has been of huge benefit, giving me high-level insight into how I work and what this means for my team. Before I had a reputation as a good ‘number two’, but now I’m seen as a leader. I now know what I’m good at, so I can plan my career around that. My aim is to be a partner, and it’s an excellent program which has equipped me for that.”

Who is this program for?

You have at least ten years of management experience, and determine the strategic direction of your organization.

C-level executives, managing directors, divisional directors, and subject matter experts, in both the private and public sectors, typically thrive in this senior program.

What will I learn?

The Senior Executive Program is designed to enhance your resilience and adaptability as both a transformative strategic thinker and influential motivator within your organization. You’ll develop a deep self-awareness of your own leadership style and how to best leverage it persuasively, and gain an advanced understanding of transformational strategic innovation and the power of digital disruption and how to effectively manage and implement change.

Our faculty’s research is rooted in our practical focus on the application of business, rather than theory. Topics include:

Leadership in a disruptive world—creating agile responses aligned with the dynamics of your industry and organization and working constructively with ambiguity, unleashing the potential of millennials and the digital generation.

Mindfulness—Develop the deep personal insight, resolve, and confidence required to combine tenacity and persistence with openness, engagement, and personal connection.

Speaking truth to power—how senior leaders can ensure the truth bubbles up to them, and understanding the inevitable blindness of leadership and working to minimize it.

You’ll learn from faculty with real-world experience. More than just academics, our professors are practitioners who have been consultants, directors, and vice presidents at leading global companies.

Why learn with us?

On this program, you will learn how to grow your organization and lead change successfully. You will explore how to be a strategic thinker whose individual leadership style can produce innovative solutions and generate a genuine competitive difference.

Before you arrive, you’ll complete a psychometric evaluation and work 1:1 with an executive coach to understand your results and improve your interpersonal effectiveness. You’ll apply your learning in a realistic business simulation. This simulation will purposely push you out of your comfort zone so you’re challenged but also supported, which our research indicates is when learning best sticks.

Throughout the program, we’ll partner with you to identify and solve a problem facing your organization. We’ll help you apply theoretical frameworks to this problem and a coach will also help you to create a 100-day action plan to implement when back at work. You’ll complete a final project after the course, and earn a Certificate of Application as a result. Following the program, you’ll enjoy a virtual 1:1 session, as well as have six months of access to our online learning portal.

The program takes place over two five-day modules, with a choice of campuses for each. Regardless of location, our modular approach allows you to trial your learning at the office before returning to track progress and refine.

Meet the faculty: Paul Griffith

Before joining us, Paul worked in telecoms as a VP at Inmarsat, where he was responsible for the global portfolio. As a member of the executive leadership team, he took the business through a private equity transaction and subsequent IPO. He’s also held leadership roles at BT, FirstMark, and Datapoint. He began his career in the oil and gas sector for Air Products.

Paul focuses on strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

He has worked with many organizations, including Astra Zeneca, Barclays Bank, Gala Coral Group, Erste Bank, Imperial Tobacco, KPN, Senior, Skanska, and the government of Dubai.

Paul holds an MEng in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College and an MBA (Distinction) from London Business School.

We’re constantly evolving our learning environment. Therefore, faculty and learning activities are subject to change.

Learn how to embrace digital disruption and transform behavior to create a revolutionary new product in this challenging one-day simulation. Broken into teams representing different divisions of a recently merged company, your group will compete for resources and investment to create the best category-revolutionizing product. Throughout, unexpected challenges and surprises will complicate your task, and force you to apply your learnings to succeed. The simulation concludes with a group debrief where you’ll the explore the choices you’ve made, specifically how you respond to external disruption in your environment, trigger internal disruption and transform behaviors with positive outcomes.

Helen Whitten

Head of European Marketing Communications for Roland Europe Group

“Within a year of completing the AMP, I was promoted to Marketing Director. This was a huge step from a functional, UK-focused role to a strategic position working with European colleagues on a global scale.”

Who is this program for?

You have at least five years of management experience and you’re hoping to expand your ability to lead others, enhance your strategic thinking, and better understand business fundamentals. You want the most well-rounded management education available for the minimum number of days away from the office.

If you’re a business unit or country manager, a high-potential mid-level manager, a specialist working across teams, or a project manager tackling complex projects, you’re well suited to benefit from the Advanced Management Program (AMP).

What will I learn?

On the Advanced Management Program, you’ll learn through a carefully crafted curriculum that covers topics on leadership, strategy, and business foundations.

During the program, you’ll cover:

Leadership: Understand your leadership style and how to capitalize on it; develop tools for maximizing your team’s skills and influencing others.

Strategy: Identify ways to maintain a competitive advantage; learn how to translate inventive strategy development into seamless execution.

Business Foundations: Understand core financial principles and their effect on business performance, and how customer-centric marketing strategies can drive growth.

You’ll learn from faculty with real experience working with organizations. More than just academics, our professors have been consultants, directors, and vice presidents at leading global companies.

Unlike the Personalized Development Program, which allows participants to create a tailored curriculum, the AMP covers set topics to ensure everyone receives a well-rounded education in as little time as possible.

Why learn with us?

On this program, you will develop a real understanding of the impact of your behavior upon others, and channel this to drive growth within your organization.

To ensure that your learning is as relevant and impactful as possible, before arriving you’ll complete our Ashridge Inventory of Management Skills (AIMS) 360° evaluation. The AIMS 360° process helps line managers, peers, and direct reports to provide feedback on you. Using this data, you’ll partner 1:1 with an executive coach throughout the program to ensure that lessons learned are applied to work.

During this program, you’ll step out of the classroom to put theories into action. You will work with faculty to identify a personal learning project and consult with a real company on a current business problem they’re facing. Near the end, you’ll also experience a day-long simulation on decision-making under pressure.

After the program ends, completing a final project on a challenge back at work will earn you a Certificate of Application. A virtual 1:1 follow-up will help you reassess your progress, and you’ll also have six months of access to our online learning portal.

This hands-on program takes place over two five-day modules. This design allows you to trial your learning at the office before returning to track and refine your development.

James has an MBA, and is currently researching how businesses can survive and thrive in complex and disruptive environments.

Put what you’ve learned to the test by consulting with a real organization which has a pressing business challenge. Working in teams, you’ll draw on your skills of strategy, finance, and innovation to put forth a creative and sound solution. Periodic checkpoints with the client will help to assess your progress as your team work towards a common goal. The consultancy project culminates in a client presentation—will your team rise to the challenge?

Who is this program for?

You may have recently entered a management position from a specialized functional or technical role. You’re looking to push yourself out of your comfort zone in order to jump start your growth as a people leader, strategist, and business contributor.

What will I learn?

The Management Development Program will introduce you to a broad set of management knowledge and help you accelerate your growth as a new manager. As with our other general management programs, you’ll study topics across leadership, strategy, and finance:

Leadership: Learn how to adapt your own leadership approach to motivate your team and deliver excellence.

Strategy: Understand strategy and how creative solutions are formed, and develop a strong personal and team management process to ensure seamless execution.

Business foundations: Learn key financial principles and build confidence in contributing to business-shaping discussions.

You’ll explore these topics with professors who have impressive professional experience themselves. More than just academics, they’re practitioners with real-world experience who have been consultants, directors, and vice presidents at leading global companies.

Why learn with us?

On this program, you will learn to expand your business acumen, lead a high-performance team, and influence at all levels within your organization.

Impactful executive education must start with your individual leadership style. That’s why before you arrive, you’ll complete a self-assessment to identify your strengths and areas for development. We’ll help you to understand your personal leadership style and maximize your ability to motivate others.

Our core research indicates that people learn best when in stressful yet supported, safe environments. Therefore, activities will place you in immersive yet supported simulations so that your learning sticks.

Throughout the program, we’ll partner with you to identify and solve a problem facing your organization. We’ll help you apply theoretical frameworks to this problem, and a coach will also help you to create an action plan to implement at work. You’ll complete a final project on this topic post-program, and earn a Certificate of Application as a result.

Our immersive setting away from the typical office will also ensure you have the mind space to focus and reflect, so you’ll return to work energized and ready to apply your learning.

Once the program is over, you’ll be invited to a group webinar with a tutor to assess your progress, and also have six months of access to our virtual learning portal.

Who is this program for?

You have at least five years of management experience and you’re hoping to expand your ability to lead others, enhance your strategic thinking, and better understand business fundamentals. Moreover, you’re particularly interested in a program which has been tailored for your individual development.

If you’re a business unit or country manager, a high-potential mid-level manager, a specialist working across teams, or a project manager tackling complex projects, you’re well suited to benefit from the Personalized Development Program (PDP).

What will I learn?

Your Personalized Development Program will cover a series of thought-provoking topics across leadership, strategy, and business foundations (see adjacent chart). You will be taught by practitioner faculty with industry experience who conduct research solving the real problems facing businesses today.

Potential program topics include:

Leadership: Understand your leadership style and how to capitalize on it; develop tools for maximizing your team’s skills and influencing others.

Strategy: Identify ways to maintain a competitive advantage; learn how to translate inventive strategy development into seamless execution.

Business foundations: Understand core financials which drive business goals.

Your course will be personalized, corresponding to your individual online self-evaluation taken before you start. Your program will be taught by faculty who have been consultants, directors, and vice presidents at leading global companies.

To take the online self-evaluation, please visit: hult.edu/pdp

Why learn with us?

On this program, you will learn to sharpen your expertise across the operational areas of your job and to better deliver results within your organization.

To start, you’ll complete a proprietary online self-evaluation and your course will be personalized to your individual results. Our custom algorithm will intelligently translate your data into a program optimized for you. You can, of course, make alterations, although we advise participants to follow the recommendations.

Our goal is for your learning to positively impact your organization. That’s why, before arriving, you’ll complete an employer learning contract with your manager to define your desired learning outcome and its intended impact on the business. You will also complete a 360 AIMS questionnaire and discuss the results with your individual PDP coach in two 90-minute sessions.

Throughout the program, you’ll step out of the classroom to put theories into action with simulations and creative workshops. After the course ends, in addition to your final session with your coach, you will benefit from six months of access to our online learning portal.

The program runs for a minimum of 14 days and is to be completed within two years of the start date. Personalized to your needs, you’ll study over a series of two- to five-day periods, for a total of up to 21 days. This multi-modular design allows you to apply your education back at the office and then return to class to review your progress.

Post-learning assessment center

When an organization enrolls a large number of employees into our programs, they may wish to see a more formalized assessment of their employees’ improvement and individual growth.

Our assessment center involves a series of tests, interviews, and activities which take place after a program or course. It allows us to evaluate an individual’s growth post-learning. Organizations often find this helpful in identifying top talent, and as a vehicle for providing feedback to talented individuals on strengths and development areas, which can be fed into a development plan.

The open exclusive option

Sometimes an organization wants to send numerous employees on an exclusive program or course. This maximizes our ability to tailor the education to the needs of your organization.

The aligned option

Organizations who have a number of employees with individual development needs can fulfill their employees’ growth by participating in one of our Open Programs. We can support this with our aligned option, which features customized events to bring the group together and align their learning with your organization’s goals.

The executive coaching option

Executive coaching provides a confidential sounding board for senior managers who want to review sensitive issues, such as their own leadership and management style, or the effectiveness of their relationships with some of their key stakeholders—direct reports, management team, colleagues, and customers—and explore the potential impact on business results.

Leadership Courses

Matt Lewis

COO, The Shared Resource Service

“We are now planning well ahead and building a broad portfolio, giving me enhanced credibility in my new role.”

Who is this program for?

You’re an experienced senior-level leader. Though you’re comfortable with many tactical areas of leadership such as giving feedback, having difficult conversations, and conducting performance reviews, you are looking for a deeper dive into your leadership ‘essence’ and how to use it to accelerate your organization’s transformational journey.

What will I learn?

This course is an evolution of the popular Ashridge Leadership Process and is designed to transform your leadership. This includes:

- How to develop your adaptability and personal resilience

- How to work with organizations as complex adaptive (living) systems and inter-dependent value chains to unleash the potential of your people

- Enhancing self-awareness and self-management by exploring issues like purpose, legacy, and sub-conscious limiting behavior

- Applying three emerging leadership intelligences: ego intelligence, eco intelligence and intuitive wisdom intelligence

- Mindfulness practice as an enabling capacity

Why learn with us?

This course will develop your agility as a leader and build upon your strategic thinking. You will learn how to manage increased responsibility and design effective action plans to achieve both personal and organizational goals.

Before arriving, you’ll complete two psychometric evaluations as well as an assessment of your leadership. These exercises also collect feedback from your peers and managers and allow us to combine business theory with your personal and organizational input to maximize the relevance and impact of the course.

From over 30 years of practice in experiential learning rooted in our own research, you’ll learn through experiences and activities designed to push you out of your comfort zone in a safe setting, which is when our neuroscience research indicates learning sticks best.

You’ll work with a personal coach during and after the residential module. They will help you identify your goals at the outset and assess how your perspective has shifted afterwards. Together, you’ll create a leadership development plan for your continued growth at work, which will detail a specific challenge you’re facing in the workplace. Post-course, you’ll complete a final project related to this challenge, and earn a Certificate of Application as a result.

To enroll: hult.edu/execMeet the faculty: Megan Reitz

Before joining us, Megan was a consultant with Deloitte. She also surfed the dot-com boom with boo.com and worked in strategy consulting for The Kalchas Group (now the strategic arm of Computer Science Corporation).

Megan researches and consults on leadership, change, and mindfulness. Her research on “Speaking Truth to Power,” which was recently featured in the Harvard Business Review, examines how communication reaches–or doesn’t reach–senior leaders.

Megan has a PhD from Cranfield School of Management. She is an accredited coach with Ashridge and is qualified to deliver feedback through a range of psychometric instruments.

We believe that placing people in a variety of situations and experiences helps draw out profound personal insights. Along with other senior leaders, you will take part in a half-day physical exercise where you’ll spend reflective time outdoors and work together to solve complex abstract riddles and codes. Can you adapt quickly enough in this structureless team environment to complete the task?

This will form part of a progressive journey to help bring clarity to you on your purpose and legacy, and enhance the impact you make in your world. Post-exercise analysis will help you identify how to use learning from this activity to influence behavioral change among senior stakeholders in your organization.

Leadership Courses

“Wearing a heart rate monitor gave useful insights into how I react physically in situations. It made me realize that the key to improving my performance was improving my coping methods.”

Rob Pearse

Head of Contractors and Installers, Rexel UK Ltd

Who is this course for?

You’re a high-potential manager or specialist moving into a leadership role, possibly on a fast track toward greater leadership responsibility in the near future. You’re looking to accelerate your leadership growth by several years, and are intrigued by the idea of a uniquely immersive simulation that will deliberately place you under carefully measured stress.

What will I learn?

It normally takes ten years of bitter experience in the field for a leader to acquire the knowledge contained in this program. Thanks to our extensive research findings, you have the opportunity to condense this learning into just a few days. You will learn key lessons on your own terms and practice your responses to situations in a safe environment. In the future, when it really matters, you will know what to do. Your organization’s investment in its future leaders is vital to retaining talent with the strength and flexibility to cope with what lies ahead.

By experiencing some of the critical incidents that you’re likely to face as a leader, you’ll be equipped and supported to deal more effectively with them in future.

A few of the situations you’ll encounter include:

- Stepping up to take responsibility andto lead

- Making decisions within uncertain, ambiguous contexts

- Delivering results through and with others

- Handling difficult conversations

- Managing stress and recovery

Why learn with us?

In these turbulent times, organizations need leaders who are prepared for the unexpected. By practicing now, you will be able to rely on your ‘muscle memory’ to deal effectively with these incidents when you encounter them in future.

You’ll be placed in the center of a three-day experiential simulation where you will experience a range of challenging leadership dilemmas. You will receive in-depth developmental feedback from coaches, tutors, and fellow participants.

This experience is the ultimate test run, allowing you to assess your readiness for leadership and how to prepare yourself for the challenges that are likely to arise. It’s not for the faint of heart, but in the future, when it really matters, you’ll know what to do.

You’ll meet with a coach before arriving, as well as after the course to support you as you take your leadership skills forward. After the course, a final project related to applying your learning at work will allow you to earn a Certificate of Application. You’ll also enjoy six months of access to our online virtual learning portal.

Meet the faculty: Vicki Culpin

Vicki Culpin is a globally recognized Professor in Organizational Behavior specializing in well-being at work research. A member of the faculty at Ashridge Executive Education, Vicki has worked with a range of international clients in the public, private, and cultural sectors: Heineken, PepsiCo, Bayer, Oxfam, and the World Health Organization.

As a chartered psychologist, Vicki has spent over 17 years in academia, delivering guest lectures around the world on a variety of psychological topics. Vicki’s more recent research dives into the relationship between sleep, well-being, and memory with resilience in management populations.

Vicki holds an MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology and a Ph.D. in Psychology and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Our research has found that people learn best when they feel stretched, yet equipped for the challenge. That’s why this course will plunge you into an immersive experience alongside others where you’ll be stretched beyond your comfort zone, but also supported. For the duration, you’ll be invited to wear a heart monitor so that you can receive feedback from a qualified sports psychologist on how you manage stress and your ability to recover.

Who is the program for?

You are a manager possibly on a fast track towards greater leadership responsibility in the near future. You’re looking to accelerate your leadership growth by several years, and are intrigued by the idea of a uniquely immersive simulation which will deliberately place you under carefully measured stress. You would prefer to do this program virtually for a variety of reasons such as locality or time out of the office, or you are required to manage and engage others virtually on a regular basis and would like to enhance your ability to lead virtually in stretching and difficult situations.

What will I learn?

The learning outcomes are similar to our face-to-face 3-day option, namely:

- Stepping up to take responsibility and to lead

- Making decisions within uncertain, ambiguous contexts

- Delivering results through and with others

- Handling difficult conversations

- Managing stress and recovery

The main differences between the face-to-face and virtual programs are that the virtual program offers a more condensed experience in real time (all participants online at the same time), with learning blocks of four hours at a time using the zoom technology. All participants will still be able to see each other on screen and participate fully.

This condensed and virtual version also includes practical skills on how to lead virtually in other words how to ensure you achieve quality connections and maximize engagement from a team that may be distributed all over the world and needs to be managed virtually. None of the intensity is sacrificed—the online experience is as stretching and challenging.

Why learn with us?

Working virtually is becoming increasingly common in many organizations and there is a need for executives to effectively lead in these more digitized settings.

We’re committed to helping you learn in a way that’s reflective of these changing times, and most convenient for you. That’s why we now offer Leading on the Edge as a virtual learning option that takes 16 hours to complete over a three-day period.

We recently conducted research which compared the learning outcomes of in-person versus virtual learning. The results surprised us. Months after, participants who completed the virtual learning option showed the same competency development and behavioral change, as those who attended in person.

After the course ends, you’ll also be invited to a coaching session with an Ashridge-accredited coach to support you in applying your learning back at work.

Leadership Courses

Jesper Fabricius

Head of Communications, Ramboll Denmark

“In the first month after, I referred to the course notes regularly to help me consider which leadership style I need given the situation, and now I’m starting to identify the right style intuitively.”

Who is this course for?

You're directly responsible for the success or failure of a team. You have some experience as a leader, but are looking to improve your ability to deliver feedback, handle difficult conversations, and inspire different types of team members. You want to accelerate your ability to develop high performances from others.

What will I learn?

This course will teach you how to motivate, delegate, and coach for success. You’ll leave aware of your impact on others, and be able to encourage confident, effective communication in your team.

Upon completion, you’ll understand:

- The developmental and people skills critical to leadership

- How to tap into others’ diverse motivations to inspire results and build high-performing teams

- Strategies for delivering feedback and engaging in difficult conversations

- How to build high-performance teams

- How to coach others to achieve their potential

- The importance of personal mindfulness in leadership, based on practical research conducted by our own faculty.

During the course, you’ll learn from faculty who are more than just academics. Our professors are practitioners with real-world experience as HR managers, directors, and coaches.

Why learn with us?

On this program, you will develop skills to lead performance through change and learn how to implement key concepts learned back in the workplace. To ensure your learning has an impact on your personal and organizational goals, you’ll complete an evaluation prior to arriving that identifies your own strengths and weaknesses, and also allows managers, peers, and direct reports to provide feedback on you. Once here, you’ll partner 1:1 with a tutor to interpret your results, which will be central to the remainder of your course.

Our original research on brain muscle memory indicates that people learn best when in stressful yet supported environments. Therefore, some experiential learning activities will place you in immersive—yet supported—scenarios. What will I learn?

On this intensive course, you’ll learn how to assess your growth options and identify new digitally transformative ways to shape your company’s strategic future. You’ll learn how to evaluate the potential merits of new market penetration, expanded product development, and competitor acquisition—among other topics—to grow your business. You’ll explore approaches for successful implementation of innovation strategies and culture.

By the end, you’ll understand how to:

- Define what innovation means for your organization, and develop the ability articulate that to your teams

- Source and sustain growth

- Leverage your own innate strengths for delivering innovation

- Inspire a culture of agile, dynamic thinking among your team leaders

- Generate creative customer-centric ideas and adapt them to your real business capabilities and constraints

- Think like a disruptor, understanding what jobs need to be done and learning the frameworks to create strategies around business model innovation

Why learn with us?

On this program, you will learn how to manage change and make innovation a reality in your business. To ensure that learning is relevant and rooted in your organization, before arriving you’ll complete an online psychometric test to explore your personal capabilities for leading innovation and creativity, as well as a short exercise analyzing the growth of your business. Course material will revolve around this so that your investment with us directly drives your organization’s goals.

So that you can network with and be inspired by other diverse executives on the course, hands-on simulations will take you out of the classroom and require team cooperation. These exercises will not only force you to apply classroom theories in action but will also stretch your creative thinking. This concept of an in-class innovation lab enables you to present your organization’s products and benefit from collaboratively solving bottlenecks and designing tangible new ideas.

Both our Ashridge and Dubai locations are ideally situated for reflective and thoughtful learning, ensuring you’ll return to work energized and mentally refreshed.

You can also earn a Certificate of Application through applying frameworks learned in class directly to your organization. A virtual follow-up session after the program will allow you to present your progress, and allow a tutor to assess your development.

Who is this course for?

You’re a senior manager who has experience influencing and implementing strategy, both of your own team and of the wider organization. Though you’re comfortable thinking innovatively, you’d like to improve your ability to turn abstract strategy into an actionable plan of attack that yields tangible results.

What will I learn?

Our research indicates that 70% of strategic plans fail to be executed and commonly dissolve away due to cultural blocks. In this course, you’ll learn how to implement strategy and understand what the blockers for successful execution might be. Under the management process we call ‘translation’, you’ll learn the particular skills needed to become the 30% that actually drive strategic plans all the way through to completion.

This course will equip you with a set of practical, simple, but powerful tools and organizing frameworks to turn strategy into action and get results in an increasingly unpredictable world.

By the end of the program, you will understand how to:

- Overcome ambiguity and barriers to strategy execution

- Create successful execution roadmaps

- Work with behaviors and values to engage teams and gain stakeholder buy-in to enable execution and ensure lasting change

More than just academics, our professors are accomplished business professionals in their own right, so you’ll learn from their real-world business experience.

Why learn with us?

To maximize the relevancy and business impact of the course, we’ll engage with you before your arrival so that you identify execution challenges you’re facing in your organization. Post-course, you’ll complete a final project related to this challenge, and earn a Certificate of Application as a result.

With over 50 years of experience consulting with organizations, we’ve mastered the technique of bringing strategic frameworks to life in innovative ways. Through analyzing famous cinematic battle scenes and modern relevant case studies— among other methods—you’ll learn the link behind behavioral influence and strategy translation.

A virtual follow-up with a tutor after the course will provide an opportunity for you to review progress in applying your learning in the workplace, and gain additional support as you complete your final project.

Whether you study in Ashridge or Dubai, our internationally sourced faculty and campus network will enable us to provide business education that is both globally relevant and adapted for the local context.

Meet the faculty: Hari Mann

Hari started his career in Goldman Sachs’ investment banking division, where he worked with senior executives on consulting projects around the alignment of companies following a merger. He went on to the London School of Economics to undertake a variety of roles in consulting, research, and teaching. There, he consulted with a wide range of FTSE 100 companies.

Hari’s research examines how businesses develop the culture, environment, and infrastructure to foster innovation and entrepreneurial activities.

He holds an MSc (with distinction) and a PhD from the London School of Economics.

We draw on diverse examples to bring classroom theories to life. On this course, abstract concepts of strategic planning and the link between strategy and behavior are illustrated through something you might not expect: an epic battle scene from a Hollywood blockbuster. You’ll dissect the classic cinematic scene piece by piece to uncover how the various components of the army come together to form one cohesive attacking unit. By the end, you’ll understand why strong leaders need both a strategy and the ability to instill behaviors in those around them to be successful.

Looking outside the workplace for inspiration:

Who is this course for?

You’re a manager in either a general management position or a functional role, and want to understand how best to structure and execute a strategic decision. You may be in transition from an operational to a more strategic role, and want a better understanding of strategies you have to implement or how to shape strategic decisions.

What will I learn?

This practical and highly interactive program will help you improve the quality of your decision-making and to think through issues in a more strategic way. By exploring the tools and reflecting on how strategy is formulated, you’ll understand how your future decisions can affect your organization.

Module 1: Strategy Tools With the use of real case studies and group exercises, learn how to evaluate the external environment, identify options, and ultimately select the best one.

Module 2: Formulating Strategy You’ll explore how biases can affect decisions, how to develop robust processes to address those biases, and how to stimulate the creation of new strategic options.

This course will:

- Help you understand the difference between strategic and operational thinking

- Enable you to decide which tools to use for developing strategy

- Equip you with the techniques for managing the decision-making process

- Give you essential tips and alert you to the pitfalls in making strategic decisions

Why learn with us?

To prepare you for the intense and fast-paced course, you’ll take part in a virtual learning session beforehand to help you revise your existing knowledge of strategic theory.

Once here, through the use of film clips, case studies, and extensive group work, we’ll bring strategic frameworks to life. Real examples–including a film about the Cuban Missile Crisis and a case study on the publishing industry–will help to explain the models, which you’ll then apply to your own real workplace examples. You’ll finish with a day-long simulation enabling you to practice frameworks and decision-making under pressure.

The course draws on our research into decision-making, as captured in the book Think Again: Why Good Leaders Make Bad Decisions and How to Keep It from Happening to You, coauthored by our own Jo Whitehead.

This course also includes a virtual follow-up session to help support you in applying your learning back in the workplace.

This course is split into two: first, a two-day module on strategy tools, and then a three-day module on formulating strategy. Though we encourage participants to attend both modules for the maximum benefit, you may choose to attend just one.

Jo was previously a Vice President and Director of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He worked in the London, Los Angeles, and Atlanta offices and acted as BCG’s Director of Energy, Research, and Marketing.

Our philosophy is to understand and work alongside you. Our faculty members have strong academic credentials and have had successful careers in international business. They also retain an active interest in the commercial world through research and consultancy, so you will find them to be invaluable sounding boards, educators, and facilitators to help you address your organizational challenges.

Real-world impact

The value of a custom program is the impact it has on your organization, team, or individual learning and behavior. We focus on results and impact. We design processes and content which link learning to action. We know that the program absolutely must have a significant impact on your organization and your people. This is why our practical and experiential approach is so valued by our clients. As a fundamental principle, you can expect more time dedicated to experience and application than input. Ultimately, that’s why clients choose us. Be sure to ask us about our methods for helping you measure the impact of your program.
