Nomination Guidelines

PURPOSE

The purpose of the LG&E KU/WHAS11 Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership(ExCEL) Award is to recognize and reward the contributions of the public schools and the teaching

profession to the development and well-being of your young people and community. This Awardrecognizes public school teachers who exemplify teaching excellence using innovation, excitement,and enthusiasm in their teaching methodology; who maintain meaningful personal relationships withstudents, parents, colleagues and community members; are role models of professionalism andcitizenry; and are personally committed to continued professional development and enhancement.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES

To be eligible for the LG&E KU/WHAS11 ExCEL Award, the individual must be currently a full-time

classroom teacher who has taught in an elementary, middle, high, or special school in the JeffersonCounty Public School District for at least three years. The term "teacher"includes everyone for whomcertification is required with the exception of those who are administrators, supervisors, counselors,resource teachers, and school psychologists.

Applicants must be nominated by the principal or a professional colleague (non-relative).

The nominator must complete a Nomination Form with the Principals endorsement, must write aNominator Narrative (see instructions below), and must submit three letters of support for his/hernomination. One of the letters must be from the candidates current principal.

Nomination Forms and letters of recommendations must becompleted in a 12-point type inTimes New Roman Font.

Recommendation letters must be typed on 8.5 x 11 white paper or on 8.5 x 11 school letterheadusing appropriate business letter format (Please refer to theJCPS In Style Guide on page 48).

Send original documents with original signatures. No other materials will be accepted. Incomplete nominations will not be accepted. Nominations are due by Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Faxes will not be accepted.
