Languagecourse:LithuanianLanguagecoursewillbeorganizedby theCO. Itwillbe freeof charge for thevolunteer.Itsfrequencywillbe2-4hours/week(40hoursintotal).Foodprovisions:110EURpermonthTelephoneandinternet:Internetwillprovidedintheworking(notliving)space,freeforthevolunteer.MobileSIMcardsareprovidedbytheCOandcharged3euros/permonthVolunteerAllowance: The volunteerwill receive amonthly allowance of 90€/month -pocketmoney,accordingtotheErasmusprogrammeguide.Thepaymentwillbemadetothebankaccount.Accommodation:ThevolunteerwillliveinthetownofBiržaiinasharedflat/sharedroomwithcommonareasandfacilities(kitchenandbath)andbasichouseequipment.LocalTransport:AlllocaltripsrelatedtotheprojectactivitieswillbepaidbyCO.Insurance:InsuranceisprovidedaccordingtotheErasmus+youthrules.Workinghours:36hoursperweek,5workingdays,2consecutivedaysoffperweekinarow.Holidays:Thevolunteerwillhave16daysather/hisdisposal(=2days*8months).Sendingcostsforsendingorganization:25EURper1month(total200Euros)willbepaidaftervolunteerarrivestohomecountry1monthafterEVSproject

Biržairegionalpark

InBiržai regionalpark themain roleof volunteers in theorganizationwill beassistanceorhelper as the volunteer won't be professional. The activities in which volunteers will beinvolved:workingwithtourists-children,families,youthinvisitorcenterandinallregionalpark territory; help organizing various events; also volunteers will help to implementinternationalprojects.http://www.birzuparkas.lt/

Theactivitiesinwhichvolunteerswillbeinvolved:1.Working with tourists in visitor center and in all regional park territory. During tourismseason (May-September) volunteerswill be able to help specialists tomeet visitors, assist inexcursions2.Everyyearpark specialist’s carryoutvisitorsmonitoring.Fourdayspermonth (in summerseason)itisneededtocountallvisitorsin4mostlyvisitedplaces.3.Helpinginnaturemonitoring.Everyyearparkspecialistshavetocheckreserves inregionalparkterritory.Participatingintheseactivitiesvolunteerswilllearnmoreaboutrarespeciesandhabitats. Every year we need to monitor some species, so after learning to recognize,volunteerscouldmonitor them.Alsoeveryyearweneed tomonitorsinkholes, sovolunteerscouldmonitorthemtoo.4. Biržai regional park participates in various projects, so volunteers could help organizingvariouseventsinparkterritory;alsovolunteerscouldhelptoimplementinternationalprojects,theiractivities.5.BiržairegionalparkhastoorganizesomeeventsinregionalparkorinBiržaitown.Volunteerscould help organize events about regional park, also they can organize an event aboutthemselves,topresenttheircountry,cultureandsoon.6.SeveraltimesinayearspecialistsaregoingtootherregionalornationalparksinallLithuaniato change experience about work. Volunteers will be able to participate in meetings, showknowledgeaboutBiržaiRegionalParkand introduce their selves, their countryandErasmus+programme.7.Specialistsalsoneedahelpintheoffice.Allideasarewelcomed,especiallyabouteducationprogrammes,excursions,brochures,webpage,Facebookpage.Duringwinterseasonthereisaneed to make or renew brochures, leaflets, maps, to create new education programmes,excursions.

8.Biržairegionalparkhastomakepresentations, lessons inschools.Volunteerscanmakeanintegrated lesson about Biržai regional park in English/Russian language in schools in Biržai,Rokiškis,KupiškisandPasvalysdistricts.AsBiržairegionalparkislocatedorhassomereservesinthesedistricts.Requirementsforvolunteers:

• Tobeinterestedinnatureandworkwithvisitors.• Tohaveawish to create cooperationwithotherorganizationandbe ready to create

commonactivities.• Tohavegoodcommunicationskills.• Tohaveideasandpracticeinorganizinghikesandimplementationofotheractivities.• TobeabletospeakEnglish(Russianlanguagewouldbepreferable).• Willing to learn Lithuanian language, dicover culture and nature, to create friendship

withlocalcommunity.

FactsaboutBiržai

BIRŽAIisatownsituatedintheNorthofLithuania,inthecountyofPanevėžys,66kilometresnorthofPanevėžys.Itliesabout200kilometersnorthofVilniusandabout100kilometressouthofRiga,thecapitalofLatvia.InthedistrictofBiržai,thenorthernmostpointofLithuaniaislocated(atlatitude56º27‘N).

ThereexistvarioustheoriestheoriesastohowBiržaigotitsname.Accordingtoone,itsnamemaybederivedfromLithuanianwordberžas(birch):inancienttimes,thisterritorywascoveredwith forest dominated by birches.Others believe that the city has its name from Lithuanianwordbiržė(line,boundary),asitliesneartheLithuanian-Latvianborder.

Oneof theoldest citiesof Lithuania,Biržai has anover a five-centuries-longhistoryof beinggrantedthestatusofcity.Thecityliesattheconfluenceoftworivers,ApaščiaandAgluona,andontheshoresoftwolakes,ŠirvėnaandKilučiai.Thecity’shistoryiscloselyassociatedwiththeDukesofBiržai,membersoftheRadvila(Radziwiłł)family,whoresidedattheircastlefortifiedwithbastionsandramparts. Inthemiddleof19thcentury, theCountTiškevičius (Tyszkiewicz)familyalso leftadeep imprinton thecity’shistory.Thecityboastsmagnificentchurches:St.John’s the Baptist Church and Evangelical Reformed Church. Biržai is a place where peopleavoidutteringacommonswearingexpression: ‘Kadtuprasmegtum!’ (Literally:BeswallowedbytheEarth)eventoafoebecause itmaycometrue.Circulatinggroundwatermaydissolvegypsum, sandstone or dolomite bedrock, gradually forming spaces and caverns known assinkholes.Thetotalnumberofkarstformations inthedistrict isestimatedtobemorethan9000. It is a place where local people cherish their traditional knowledge of using mineralresourcesforhealingpurposesandofbrewingbeer.

TotalareaofthedistrictofBiržai:1,476sq.km.PopulationofthedistrictofBiržai(in2014):26473 residents, of whom 11 666 and 14 807 lived in urban areas and rural settlements,respectively.

In 1589, theKing ZigmantasVaza (Sigismund III Vasa) granted toBiržai the city rights underMagdeburgLawandaprivilege touseacoatofarms.Ona fieldor,a flying flagargentonabrownstaff isdepicted.Ontheflag,ablackeagle,withlegsandbeakor,andclawsargent, isdisplayed.Thecoatofarms isenclosedbya laurelwreath.Thecoatofarmscarries symbolsthat indicate the eminence in the field of battle and the high title of imperial prince of theDukesofBiržaiandDubingiailine,andtheauthorityoftheRadvilafamilyoverthecity.ThecoatofarmsofBiržai isuniquebecauseoftheantiquelaurelwreath.InGrandDuchyofLithuania,onlymembersoftheRadvilafamilyweregrantedthetitleReichsfurst(Duke)oftheHolyRomanEmpireandwereentitledtodisplaythelaurelwreathontheircoatofarms.
