Assistant Principal’s Report Disco Fever On Saturday afternoon the school hall was filled with plenty of fun activities for our annual school disco - photo booths, face painting, glowing Hawaiian leis, wristbands and of course the fabulous DJ, Ash Nathan. The volunteer parents busily worked throughout the night to guarantee all the children received their pizza, chips and water and were enjoying themselves. The new process of parents collecting a raffle ticket after signing their children out after the disco session, ensured all children were signed out and volunteer Disco parents were not having to ring and confirm that children had been collected. Many thanks to all who were involved in the organisation, helping on the night and the final clean up at the very end of the night. Fundraising for Our Next CSPS Project Callout to our CSPS community! A few years ago Green Machine had the fabulous landscaper, Richard Bellemo, create a schematic plan to improve our outdoor areas for the students. Thus far, we have completed the Friendship Circle, Nature Play Space and the Bamboo Forest. We would love your input on what project we should fundraise for next. Please view the whole schematic plan outside the office or outside the hall. Thanks for all your support so far. There are EIGHT projects so please click 1 for the project that you think should be completed next, 2 for the project after that and so on all the way until 8. Please go to https://goo.gl/forms/t91RS0fu78SFR2Ue2 Toilet Update The renovations on our toilets started on Friday 27th July. As a staff, we have discussed the issues that have arisen with the temporary toilet arrangements. We have now allocated the junior grades to use toilets within the school and Year 3-6 to use the portable toilets, in recognition of the difficulties our younger students had when using the portable toilets. The toilets are cleaned each day, but unfortunately we have a number of students who need educating on how to use and leave toilets in a fit state for other users. We would greatly appreciate your support in speaking to your children about this issue. I have also been communicating with the Department about our need for more toilets. They have been very supportive, providing extra toilets so promptly. Please see the photos of the toilet demolition later on in this newsletter. I would like to thank everyone again for your pa- tience and support as we all endure the challenges of this major school upgrade. Staff Development Day On Friday the 3rd August, CSPS teachers spent the day learning about learner agency. When learners have agency, they are involved in determining what they need to learn, how they learn best and what their individual learning goals are. Our teachers were challenged to include more student voice, choice and leadership in their classrooms. The teachers extend their sincere thanks to Kim Jackson, Principal of Kunyung Primary School, for facilitating our training day and sharing her school’s experiences with us. Sausage Sizzle Our second lunchtime Sausage Sizzle was held yesterday. A popular, well-run event that is very well supported by Steve Feder and the many volunteers. Unfortunately, we were required to change the date from the 1 st to the 8 th of August and up to 30 students arrived without lunch on the 1 st . Thank you Mr McKibbin for taking a trip to the supermarket and organising lunches for those students. * Please do continue to check the newsletter fortnightly for current information and calendar events. AHH… TISSUE!

The colder weather has arrived and the children are beginning to catch colds

tissues for their classroom for the year as we do go through so many.

Also, could you please ensure your child’s classroom teacher has an up to

include a recent photo of your child.

CSPS DISCO

A BIG shout out to the disco TEAM for putting together an awesome night for our kids! A night like that doesn’t just come together, it takes many hands &

many hours so we appreciate both immensely!

A disco isn’t a disco without music and that was left to DJ-Ash Nathan. He was nothing short of awesome!! Such a professional set up, making for a smooth running disco which the kids loved. The music was age appropriate & current which meant all the kids were into it and danced the night away. (The early hrs anyway). Thanks Ash, CSPS really appreciate the amazing effort you went to and we as a school community would highly recommend

you any day!! PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION

COUNCIL CORNER The following topics were discussed during the last School Council meet-ing:

Toilets—We are making exciting progress with the demolition of the school toilets. They will hopefully be completed by the end of term.

Before school Hebrew Program—an expression of interest was opened to the school community. More information to come.

Teacher Professional Development—The school has been work-ing with a maths consultant to develop our approach to teaching Mathematics. One of the main messages of the learning was that mistakes are the most important part of learning and should be seen that way in class, adopting a growth mindset.

Don’t forget to check our school website for our school calendar, current and past newsletters, school policies and the communication protocols used by CSPS. Melanie Gordon School Council President

as soon as possible, as the task of planning the staffing and school struc-

A Very Exciting Day!! On Monday I got chosen to be Rookie of the Round at the West Coast Eagles vs North Melbourne AFL match In Tasmania at Blundstone Arena. It was so cold but I didn’t feel a thing because I was so excited! I met the eagles CFO at the Ricky Ponting stand where I got my kit and then I went down to the change rooms with my Dad and watched the Eagles do their warm up. I ran out through the banner next to Shannon Hurn and then went to one of the Eagles trainers and did kick to kick with him then he let me have three shots for goal. It was the greatest day of my life! By Ethan M

Caulfield South Primary School News

On Wednesday 1st August the Preps had a blast celebrating being 100 days smarter and the teachers celebrated surviving the first 100 days of school! It was so wonderful to see the children in all of their amazing costumes – some children were completely unrecognisable

dressed up as 100 year olds.

Throughout the day the children completed fun and unique tasks where they needed to manipulate the number 100, as well as completing their very own 100 days of school booklet.

We also made sure to do plenty of dancing to mark this very special day.

We must say a special and huge thank you to Audrey Neufeld, mum of Will in Prep A. She was lovely and generous enough to make 100 day cookies for all of the CSPS Prep children

and teachers. What a lucky bunch we are!

We can’t wait to see the spectacular learning the Preps get up to for the remainder of 2018!
