The Bluecoat is a Grade One listed building, situated in Liverpool’s city centre and one of the UK’s oldest arts spaces.

With its origins as a charity school in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Bluecoat went on to develop a fascinating 20th century heritage, showcasing the early works of a whole range of artists from Picasso to Benjamin Britten, Yoko Ono, Captain Beefheart, Michael Clarke, Nitin Sawney and Jeremy Deller.

Since re-opening in March 2008, the Bluecoat has come alive as a vibrant arts space and home to creative industries.

About the Bluecoat·

After a £14.5 million redevelopment over 3 years,we proudly reopened our Grade One listed building during Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture. Re-born in the heart of Liverpool One – the city’s new vibrant shopping and leisure district.

The striking yet sensitive redevelopment has been recognised both at home and abroad, receiving accolades including a special commendation at the World Architecture Festival Awards and winning the inaugural Liverpool Architectural Society’s ‘Building of the Year’ award.

The Bluecoat is a vibrant arts space, presenting an exciting year-round programme of contemporary visual art, music, dance, live art and literature. It is also home to a communityof artists and creatives who make and sell theirwork in this inspirational setting. Visitors to the Bluecoat are not only invited to view art but to experience the whole creative process from conception to consumption in this truly unique creative space.

A Special EventEvent support

Our on-site events team is here to help with the planning and preparation of all events. The team’s experience in managing both large and small scale events at the Bluecoat allows them to tailor every aspect to meet the needs of your guests and to recommend the ideal venue, whether it’s the historic library for a morning meeting, or the transformation of the performance space for an evening wedding reception. When you host an event at the Bluecoat you will enjoy dedicated event logistics support at all times.

Creative events

As a creative centre, the Bluecoat boasts excellent relationships with artists from photographers to a range of talented musicians. These relationships allow our team to recommend exceptional artists to enhance your event.

A number of studios at the Bluecoat house professional photographers, available to commission and ideal for weddings or for special occasions. Holding an event at the Bluecoat also allows you to give the occasion a creative edge by working with our resident artist and creators.

You could also commission hand-crafted corporate gifts or awards, or include a fun or team-building workshop with Sense of Sound (seen on BBC’s Last Choir Standing). Additionally we can arrange talks and performances by our residents and creatives to suit corporate events, or heritage tours and talks tailored to your individual event.
