Integrating Communication into the GDE
Suggestion by WG6 of the ILC Workshop at KEK (Nov 2004):• Find one additional FTE per region• Serve as ‘plug-in’ to the regional GDE teams• Direct communication channel for the GDE
Responsible for:• ILC NewsLine• ILC Webpage content: www.linearcollider.org• Preparation of materials (press releases, brochures, posters, etc.)• Coordination of outreach activities between the regions

Status of the GDE Communicators
Americas: Hired Elizabeth Clements as ILC Communications Director
Americas Positioned at Fermilab Will hire a dedicated webmaster for www.linearcollider.org
Asia: Hiring a dedicated communicator is difficult Youhei Morita (KEK) acts as ILC Communications Director Asia Gets help from other Asian colleagues (e.g. Kaoruko Saeti) Will hire someone at KEK end of this year to help in
English/Japanese translation

Integrating Communication into the GDE
K. Büßer EGDE Oxford 25.10.2005
Status of the European Communicator
Found a typical European-style distributed solution:
1 person hired at LAL-CNRS/IN2P3: Perrine Royole-Degieux full financed by CNRS for an initial period of one year 100% HEP outreach
50% for LHC, especially LHC experiments 50% for ILC GDE, contact person: Philip Bambade
1 person will be hired at DESY jointly financed by DESY and INFN for an initial period of one year 100% ILC
50% outreach 50% scientific assistant to European GDE Director (B. Foster)
I am the placeholder for that person in the GDE for the time being
ELCSG Outreach Sub-comittee could serve as advisory board
Sharing resources for the European GDE core between partners: France: 50% of one FTE Germany: 50% of one FTE Italy: 50% of one FTE UK: 50% of Brian Foster (to release him from his Oxford duties)

big labs and organisations Interaction.org collaboration members The GDE communicators Other interested ILC collaborators, etc.
WG6 had two very active weeks: ILC communications sessions Interactions.org collaboration meeting Workshop on public participation at the ILC Strategic Communication Plan and:

Conclusion
ILC outreach is an important topic on Europe’s agenda ELCSG Outreach Sub-committee European GDE Communicator(s)
1.5 FTEs for the ILC (1.0 Outreach + 0.5 Scientific GDE Assistant) 1.5 FTEs for Outreach (1.0 ILC and 0.5 LHC) strong synergy effects expected
One Communicator is already in place at LAL Other will start at DESY soon
Need to discuss the interplay between the ELCSG Outreach Subcommittee, the GDE Communicators, and the rest (e.g. the press offices of the labs)
ILC outreach activities come up to speed ILC Website ILC NewsLine
→ Future plans (see Perrine’s talk!)
