Fourth Sunday of Easter 11 May 2014

THIS WEEK IN THE PARISH

“The sheep follow him because they know his voice.”

Introduction: With its readings about sheep and shepherds, today is commonly known as Good Shepherd Sunday.

Today’s Readings

First Reading: Acts 2:14, 36-41

Peter’s proclamation, that the Jesus who was crucified is in fact “Lord and Christ,” cuts his hearers to the heart; and he urges them to be converted.

Second Reading: 1 Peter 2:20-25

Peter reminds those newly baptized that they are called to follow in the footsteps of the suffering Jesus, by whose wounds we are healed.

Gospel: John 10:1-10

Jesus is both the good shepherd and the gateway to the sheepfold.

Prayers for those who are ill.

Laarni Astorga, Ed Boshcoff, June Bowes, Terry Campbell, Daphne Dalsin, Agnes Dummer, Real Gareau, Gosia Hukowski, Edmee Kearney, Judith Krutzmann, Mary Loughran, Mary Mason, Ben Perri, Lawrence Petersen, Marlene Raynor and Tillie Wilson.

Prayers for the deceased.

You are asked to remember in prayer those recently deceased: Pompeo Manalo. If there are members of your family or friends who are ill or have recently died, and for whom you wish prayers, please contact the Parish office to provide their names.

Mary had humbly listened to an angel tell her that she, a virgin, would carry and give birth to the long-awaited Messiah. How would she explain to her betrothed, Joseph, what God had asked her to do? Despite her unanswered questions, she had said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38).

We wish ALL “Mothers” a Happy Mother’s Day.
