I find myself thinking about our 8 th graders, thinking about how we will have a celebratory awards dinner this evening and then a mass and graduation ceremony tomorrow evening. The end of the road has come for these big kids here at ICS. It is time to recognize their completion of Preschool-Grade 8 schooling as they look forward to going on to high school. Did our school do a good job preparing them for their future endeavors? Most of them have good test scores and most of them seem to have done well academically, but how will they now go forward, making a difference in the world with their life pursuits? Did we show a good example of God’s love, letting it shine, allowing these young people to know and experience the spirit of Christ? Did we provide them with opportunities to show such? I think so, I hope so. Each of our 8 th graders is unique as individuals, without question, yet all are capable of accomplishing tasks set before them when they put their minds to it, when they’re motivated. Each of our 8 th graders represent unique individual abilities, academics and/or athletics, technology and/or artistic creativity, collectively willing to serve, pray, and be the talented, talkative teens that they are. Good families, caring and attentive parents, talented teachers with high expectations, friends and peers who have contributed to their development and growth, together we have shared a common goal. Our shared mission has involved guidance, care, and instruction. Whether by way of formal lessons or teachable moments, whether by assignments, projects, service opportunities, school masses, or fieldtrips, always we have tried to instill and stimulate academic progress and a sense of how much God loves each of us. Now then, obviously celebrating completion of 8 th grade is not the end of the road. High school will provide plenty of new opportunities for growth. There will be new challenges, new things to look forward to in the years ahead such as dating and driving. There will be struggles and achievement. Much more will be expected and much more will each individual be able to contribute. Years from now, when Immaculate Conception School is a distant (and hopefully fond) memory, I wonder how our 8 th graders lives will reflect on the following. Do you make a difference in the world? Do you work to live or do you live to work? Has your personal relationship with God grown? Such are lines of inquiry which are common enough that each of us might take a few moments to pause and reflect. Now in our 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, or beyond, how do we see our own lives? What kind of example do we try to be? How do we try to be of service to others while growing in our faith and love for God? Over the course of this year I have appreciated the opportunity to get to know our current 8 th graders. As a prior middle school teacher I wasn’t really surprised at some of the interesting choices they made at times, even if their actions did occasionally give pause for concern or eyebrow raising to their teachers, parents, or myself. Now, celebrating their completion of time with us here at ICS, I hope that we prepared them well for high school. I know that their teachers each cared for them in their own ways and I am thankful for the time they spent growing, learning, and developing as youngsters within our community. We know not what path, what choices may lie before us, yet we go forward with faith. Serviam, -David So let your love shine on, let it shine for all to see. God makes a diff’rence in the world. From Mr. Stone’s Desk

Greetings Immaculate Conception School Community,

Today, June 12th, marks the last day of school for our

(55) 8th grade students. Tomorrow evening, June 13th,

we will celebrate their graduation, starting with mass at

7:00p.m. All are welcome.

I find myself thinking about our 8th graders, thinking

about how we will have a celebratory awards dinner

this evening and then a mass and graduation ceremony

tomorrow evening. The end of the road has come for

these big kids here at ICS. It is time to recognize their

completion of Preschool-Grade 8 schooling as they

look forward to going on to high school. Did our

school do a good job preparing them for their future

endeavors? Most of them have good test scores and

most of them seem to have done well academically, but

how will they now go forward, making a difference in

the world with their life pursuits?

Did we show a good example of God’s love, letting it

shine, allowing these young people to know and

experience the spirit of Christ? Did we provide them

with opportunities to show such? I think so, I hope so.

Each of our 8th graders is unique as individuals,

without question, yet all are capable of accomplishing

tasks set before them when they put their minds to it,

when they’re motivated.

Each of our 8th graders represent unique individual

abilities, academics and/or athletics, technology and/or

artistic creativity, collectively willing to serve, pray,

and be the talented, talkative teens that they are.

Good families, caring and attentive parents, talented

teachers with high expectations, friends and peers who

have contributed to their development and growth,

together we have shared a common goal. Our shared

mission has involved guidance, care, and instruction.

Whether by way of formal lessons or teachable

moments, whether by assignments, projects, service

opportunities, school masses, or fieldtrips, always we

have tried to instill and stimulate academic progress

and a sense of how much God loves each of us.

Now then, obviously celebrating completion of 8th

grade is not the end of the road. High school will

provide plenty of new opportunities for growth. There

will be new challenges, new things to look forward to

in the years ahead such as dating and driving. There

will be struggles and achievement. Much more will

be expected and much more will each individual be

able to contribute. Years from now, when Immaculate

Conception School is a distant (and hopefully fond)

memory, I wonder how our 8th graders lives will

reflect on the following.

Do you make a difference in the world?

Do you work to live or do you live to work?

Has your personal relationship with God grown?

Such are lines of inquiry which are common enough

that each of us might take a few moments to pause and

reflect. Now in our 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, or beyond,

how do we see our own lives? What kind of example

do we try to be? How do we try to be of service to

others while growing in our faith and love for God?

Over the course of this year I have appreciated the

opportunity to get to know our current 8th graders. As

a prior middle school teacher I wasn’t really surprised

at some of the interesting choices they made at times,

even if their actions did occasionally give pause for

concern or eyebrow raising to their teachers, parents,

or myself. Now, celebrating their completion of time

with us here at ICS, I hope that we prepared them well

for high school. I know that their teachers each cared

for them in their own ways and I am thankful for the

time they spent growing, learning, and developing as

youngsters within our community.

We know not what path, what choices may lie before

us, yet we go forward with faith. Serviam, -David

“So let your love shine on, let it shine for all to see.

God makes a diff’rence in the world. And the spirit of

Christ will be with us as we go. Go make a diff’rence

in the world.”
