    THE ROAD TO HEALTHY BODY AND MIND:

    It has been said that the mind is a terrible thing to waste. This is very true and

    research suggests that the body and mind have a distinct relationship with each other,

    teaming up to repel and fight against deadly disease and other malice. The mind and body

    ensemble to compose preventative and healing activities and release inner power to

    overcome the trials of life. Scientists have noted that most common, everyday people only

    use a small portion of their brain's ability. Most people don't even realize their mental abilities

    and the complexity of the brains function.

    In this essay, I will attempt to show a little of the relationship and correlation between

    the mind and body and how mental state along with other variables can influence a person's

    physical well-being. While looking for ways to naturally (meaning without synthetic drugs )

    keep down levels of stress and anxiety and to help prevent immune depression, I have come

    across some methods for increasing immune system response.

    In my reading from the internet, eating a proper, well-balanced diet followed by

    exercise and proper rest, are the key elements for maintaining this fitness. The human body

    requires certain vitamins and minerals such as vitamins C & E and Beta-Carotene to help

    keep the immune system in its best condition. It is suggested through research conducted atMassachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that Carbohydrates can calm down anxiety by

    producing Serotonin which is a neurotransmitter in the brain. Protein has the opposite effect

    as it allows you to be responsive to stimuli, heightens your attention span, and endorses

    aggression which is necessary for survival.

    Beside of eating well, taking care of your body is important for maintaining good

    health. Exercising lowers blood pressure, is catalyst for chemical reactions that promote

    tissue repair and strengthening, and also keeps your heart healthy and in check. Exercising

    is an important variable when attempting to maintain a healthy physique.

    Other Ways To Improve Overall Wellness

    Other ways to feel good and do good for your muscles are through chiropractic-

    physical therapy and deep muscle relaxation. All of these methods have been shown to also

    strengthen the mind and body and also increases immune system alertness. Such activities

    will keep the system healthy and on its toes.

    Positive Thinking is a motivation as well as a preventative means of fitness.

    Proactive-Prevention is a key to general wellness. (Not smoking, drinking heavily, etc.) Being

    generally optimistic about life can improve your health as it allows you to be in control, open

    minded, and make rational decisions. This is an important during "Fight or Flight "

    responses. Attitude also plays a role in good health. A Healthy Attitude can only constitute a

    healthy mind and body. Activities such as going for walks, re-living positive nostalgic

    moments, and doing things such as volunteering your time to a needy cause are all things

    that can improve your attitude and frame of mind. Taking time to be alone, reflecting on life,

    meditating, and self evaluation also help. If you don't take time for yourself you will feel

    overburdened and will lead to stress and anxiety.

    When it comes to Relaxation, who in this day and age does not need it? Taking a

    warm bath after a long hard day relaxes your tense muscles and helps clear the mind of the

    day's trials and tribulations. The body's circulation of blood increases bringing more oxygen

    to the areas where it is needed most for repair. Prayer-like Daily Meditation has been shown

    to increase immune cell activity, according to a research study conducted at University of

    Miami Medical School. I also found that listening to music can also alter your mood.

    Listening to heavy, loud music that has a fast tempo tends to keep the body on edge.

    However, soft-instrumental music can bring you to a heightened state of consciousness andallow you to relax and rest the body. Maintaining a normal sleep schedule will help keep your

    body fit.

    Environment can play a vital role in a person's wellness. People who live in a country

    or woodland setting tend to have better health than city folk. Taking into account the

    pollution, security, and noise within a city setting, can influence a person's overall health.

    It appears that in order to be well, you must eat well, exercise frequently, relax and

    rest properly, and practicing many of the things mentioned above will aid in achieving ahealthy lifestyle. Keeping a fit mind and body will decrease one's chances of getting an

    illness. The immune system will respond punctually and you will look and feel better! Herbal

    Therapy is a practice by means of using herbs and spices to help prevent illness and

    maintain wellness.

    Garlic is a common spice found in many homes and most grocery stores. Garlic

    contains the power to endorse T-cell life longevity, helps to prevent the development of

    cancer cells and allows the liver to get rid of carcinogens which are pollutants that cause

    cancer. Licorice is another beneficial food as it is found to contain natural anti-inflammatory

    properties. This is great since many people, especially children, enjoy eating this treat!

    Licorice also produces anti-viral effects that help to ward off disease.

    Mushrooms such as Shiitake and Reishi are shown to help the body. Shiitake

    mushrooms carry many of our daily dietary requirements as they are high in Protein, Niacin,

    Thiamine, Riboflavin, and Lentinan, a substance that kills cancer cells. These mushrooms

    are also known to lower cholesterol at a very fast rate. Reishi mushrooms send out immune

    cells to perform their duties as necessary. There are a variety of other spices and herbs that

    exist that can help the body. These are just a few suggestions.

    To conclude, there are many things that influence a person's mental, physical, and

    spiritual wellness. Engaging in healthy habits with a positive attitude, watching what you eat,

    how much relaxation and sleep you get, and the environment in which one lives can deeply

    alter a person's overall health and life expectancy. We are what we put into our bodies!
