ESTAR = PLACE
1. Position: Ella está sentando. (She is sitting)

SER = DOCTOR
1. Description: Maria es alta.

B. The verb IR = TO GO
(usually followed by ‘a’)
A form of IR is usually followed by the letter “a” because “a” means “to” and usually when we use the
word “go” or “going” we are saying “go to” or “going to.”
If the word after the A is feminine, you are going to have A LA (place.)
Ex: We go/ are going to the cafeteria = Nosotros vamos a la cafetería.
If the word after the A is masculine, you are going to have A +EL which becomes AL.
For example: I am going to the bathroom = Yo voy a el baño = Yo voy al baño.
I go to Spanish class = Yo voy a la clase de español.
They go to class. Ellos van a la clase.

You can also use IR + A plus a not-conjugated verb to say what someone is going to do.
Ex: I am going to read = Yo voy a leer.

D. TENER QUE + INFINITIVEThe expression “to have to” in Spanish is a form of tener + que + a verb in the infinitive. An infinitive is a verb that ends in –ar, -er, or -ir. The six present indicative tense forms of tener are:

Example: You have to listen. = Tienes que escuchar.
