My Folie tends to create curiosity to whoever who sees it. Because it blends with Story Bridge look and has visual illusion that make it looks like floating in the air. It generates people’s curiosity and eager them to come to see what actually happen. In the end, the function of the building itself, which is Library is a place for people to gain knowledge. A person actually attracted to place that has deeper meaning rather than just for show. For the project, I have to design an Environmental Education Center for Children from Elementary School. Kids are easily attracted and guided. They also have high level of curiosity. The problem is how to attract them and guide them through certain process. So, this metaphor comes up in my mind, which is ‘CONTAINER OF CONNECTION’. Container is simply a place that contains everything on it and probably people couldn’t imagine the whole thing. It can be something that really fun, or else but we hope the fun part of course. Connection means that something linked or related each other. Basically, the idea is to tie everything about nature to children, in order to lead their curiosity to learning process. Based on the site analysis of Howard Smith Wharves, the site has lots of natural aspects such as parkland, river, cliff, and the open view. Thus, the Howard Smith Wharves demography is some sort of sequencing the aspects, especially natural around the site. Thus, the area itself is strategic among 4 suburbs & CBD which seems like connect them all. Now, the idea is to create series of spaces that as it goes by, gives higher level of curiosity. Through those spaces, it is a learning process about nature. The brief itself seems limiting but at the end it is actually helping the concept. The requirements of having indoor and outdoor spaces, gives me more idea to make a smooth transition between them. From the entry, indoor presentation space, indoor exhibition, outdoor exhibition, until the last space which is play space. Their curiosity level is increasing. Supported by the enclosed façade at the first time, to a little bit open, quite open and finally 100% open to nature. And from the content which is developing from ust trees, small Theatre Performance, Diorama, Touch Screen and finally real nature in front of their eyes. At the end, they required to play ‘Harvest Moon’ as the idea came from Play Station Game about farming. The idea of harvest moon is actually taken from the old people (long time before us) who do gardening as their source of food. The play space is a small simulation from what they have learnt and the hopes for them to more care to the nature in the future. IMAGES 12 m 15 m 16 m 10 m 16 m 10 m
