About the University
Human activities are constantly interfering with the ecological balance and this interference has reached to such scale that it has caused a massive environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. Humans also have the potential to induce a disaster by fueling the aggravating factors. For instance, rise of global greenhouse gases can adversely raise the Earth's atmospheric temperature that causes sea level rise, heat waves, sporadic precipitation and extreme climate luctuations. These are acting as climate stressors for the biodiversity and are disadvantageous to both local and global environments and economies. The recent natural disasters occurring worldwide are primarily human- induced, directly or indirectly. Disasters, whether natural or human-induced either destroy or have an adverse impact on the area's biodiversity, environment, ecosystems that provides various ecological services as well as supports livelihood and culture.
It is therefore of utmost importance to address such issues by knowledge sharing, capacity building, discussions, brainstorming, etc. Keeping this in view, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and National Institute of Disaster Management are jointly organizing a Training Workshop on “Environment,BiodiversityandDisasterRiskManagement”from 2 - 6 March, 2020 at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow.
This workshop will provide a vast and multi-disciplinary understanding of the issues pertaining to climate change related disasters which affect the environment and biodiversity.
Furthermore, the workshop stresses on risk management of such disasters. It highlights important concepts of how to tackle the impact of climate change on environment and biodiversity.
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established on 10 January 1996.
