1 INTRODUCTIONproblems of fly ash

Present production rate of fly ash In the United States about 131 million tons of fly ash

are produced annually 125 mio t/year in the EU, 300 mio t/year China+India

Groundwater contamination Spills of bulk storage Landfilling

1 INTRODUCTIONpossible applications Portland cement

can replace up to 30% by mass of Portland cement can add to the concrete’s final strength and increase

its chemical resistance and durability Only class C ash (contains more than 20% lime ,

does not require an activator )

Geopolymers

Geopolymers The reacting product consists of SiO4 and AlO4

tetrahedrons (network) Can be made from natural sources of pozzolanic

material such as fly ash (class F fly ash) Resistant to chemicals Rapid-hardening with high strenghts High density Temperature stable Ecological construction material

(pozzolanic = A pozzolan is a siliceous or siliceous / aluminous material that, when mixed with lime and water, forms a cementitious compound )
