The “Academija” Center for Graphic Arts and Visual Researches, founded in 1995, on the other hand, is part of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. A New Age is Coming! Industry - Labour - Capital25 Oct - 21 May, City Museum of LjubljanaThe exhibition on industry in Ljubljana that also topicalizes the ever changing relations between labour and capital. It depicts how Ljubljana dealt with new industries as they arrived and offeres the experience of “travel through time and space”. The show starts off with the sugar refinery on the banks of the Ljubljanica. It goes on to depict capitalists of the time, businessmen whose vision made Ljubljana into an industrial hub. At the same time, the exhibits tell the story of the life of the proletariat. The rise of industry in the late 19th and early 20th century takes a sharp turn after WWII, when factories were nationalised and many capitalists chased out of the country. The end of the war marked the beginning of the ascent of large socialist enterprises. The next break came in the 1990s, when Slovenia shed socialism and enterprises were privatised. Sundays at 16:30 guided tours in English. Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 21:00. Closed: Mondays and 1 Jan.

The Vugrinec Collection. Croatian Modern Art 1880 - 194510 Nov - 12 Mar 2017 National Gallery of SloveniaThe collection of Davor Vugrinec presented for the first time to the public in 2015 at the Art Pavilion in Zagreb as the collection of “masterpieces of Croatian Modernism”. As a demonstration of the requirements that make up a successful collecting policy, the collection is an excellent example of ambitious determination that surpasses even some museum collections. The exhibition presents contemporaries, friends, and fellow students of Slovenian

Frank Uwe Laysiepen – Ulay - “I Other”1Dec - 8 Feb, City Art GalleryOverview exhibition The work is presented with materials displayed to the public as a whole. Both curators Alenka Gregorič and Tevž Logar focused on art materials (diaries, drawings, photographs, sounds, etc.), which represent the often overlooked, or non-photogenic, creative moments in the artist’s practice. Some of the exhibited projects have already become part of the canon of the art of performance, yet some of the exhibition material also present a view into the unknown and ephemeral notes of Ulay’s long artistic path. Open: 11:00 - 19:00. Closed: Mondays and 1 Jan.Admission free

Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)Permanent exhibition at the National GalleryZoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly

painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with his series of paintings We Are Not the Last, in which he relived the scenes he experienced in the Dachau concentration camp. Ljubljana’s National Gallery displays the world’s only permanent survey exhibition of Mušič’s work, which explores the entire range of the famous artist’s painting techniques. The majority of exhibited works come from the Ljuban, Milada and Vanda Mušič Collection, owned by the family of the artist’s brother.Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00-20:00. Closed: Mondays and 1 Jan.

Tone Lapajne: Memory of Earth 22 Nov - 5 Mar 2017 Jakopič GalleryRetrospective exhibition by Tone Lapajne, an important Slovenian artist with an impressive oeuvre, but who has yet to get his due. The exhibition Memory of Eart presents the highlights of his oeuvre in various art mediums. Tone Lapajne, as an academic sculptor, created a vast but so far little known opus of sculptures in concrete, iron and wood. Today, he is best known as a painter, especially for his paintings, which he created with the help of soil, usually that from the marshes or saltpans. With them he formed one of the most recognisable and intimate variations of Informel Art. Saturdays at 16:30 guided tours in English. Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays and 1 Jan.

Music

Aurelio is the main cultural representative of the Garifuna community living in Honduras and Belize. Specifically, he is a master of the paranda, a style based around the acoustic guitar that often draws comparisons to the blues for its often bittersweet melodies and sharp social commentary concealed within songs about everyday life. Although not as well known as Cuban son or Colombian cumbia, it is without doubt one of the continent's great music traditions; a style deeply African and Latin American at once. The concert will feature songs from Darandi, a collection of Aurelio's favourite pieces from his career recorded to capture the sound of his incendiary live performances.
