Project Overview
Purpose of Project – to implement a social networking tool in support of EPA’s business requirements and evaluate its usefulness.
Project Goals: • To improve employee’s ability to connect with one another and build
professional relationships• To facilitate networking across organizational and geographic
boundaries• Support collaboration and teamwork• To provide improved visibility and transparency into activities of
employees and organizations • To expand EPA’s professional knowlegebase of collective
intelligence

The Business Case
• It is sometimes difficult or impossible to find certain information– Is there anyone else in EPA working on social networking
applications for business use?– Is there anyone in my office who speaks Chinese?– What has Jeff Levy been working on lately?– Where can I find good sources of section 508 info?– Where is the latest version of the project team document?
• As a result – Problems are solved inefficiently– Collaboration opportunities are missed– Professional relationships are constrained

• Profiles – Create and maintain personal information about themselves (contact information, pictures, skills, etc.)
• Work Status Updates / Microblogging – Post updates to keep their network informed of the status of on-going work and follow the work status of others in their network.
• Communities / Projects – Create and participate in “Communities of Interest” based on common business needs.
• Document and File sharing – Post and share documents, pictures, videos, bookmarks, etc.)
• Forums – Create and participate in on-line discussions.
• Search and Discovery – Search profiles, communities, projects, and discussion forums based on key terms.
