ENGLISH WORK: THE GREAT MIGRATION

Introduction
In this work I’m going to talk about ‘’The Great Migration’’. The characteristics and the causes of this important historical event. Also we can appreciate the importance of Chicago during the both Great Migration.
Objectives
1. Research and know what the Great Migration is.
2. Identify the causes of this massive migration.
3. The importance of Chicago to this great fact for cultural, social and political.
The Great Migration
The Great Migration was the movement of more than 6 million African Americans from the south to the urban north of United States, from 1910 to 1930.
The Great Migration
Also occur a Second Great Migration (1940 to 1970), in which 5 million or more people moved to California, they come with the same purposes, searching for new jobs and a better quality of life.

During the Great Migration, African Americans began to build a new place for themselves in public life, actively confronting economic, political and social challenges and creating a new black urban culture that would exert enormous influence in the decades to come.

Causes
The african people were searching for Better employment opportunities of industrial manufacturing. Many blacks headed north, where they took advantage of the need for industrial workers that first arose during the First World War.
Causes
African Americans moved as individuals or small family groups. There was no government assistance, but often northern industries, such the meatpacking and the railroads, one important event was the expansion of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
The importance of Chicago
Chicago attracted slightly more than 500,000 of the approximately 6 million African Americans who left the South during these decades. Chicago, offered freedom from legally sanctioned racial discrimination.

Before the second migration, African Americans constituted 2 percent of Chicago's population. After the second migration by 1970, they were 33 percent. This because all the people find an a stability in economical, social and cultural ambits.
The Importance of Chicago
This city open new doors to the black people, giving they freedom to create their own Political movements, their own religion, their own language, and one of the most featured things was the opening of the Negro League Baseball.
Religion
The Great Migration let to United States a variety of religions, one of the most important are:
- Black church. - Black theology. - Nation of Islam. - Doctrine of Father
Divine.
Religion
As the time pass each religion began to dissapear, not all the religions , but the most yes, actually they let diasporas around the world, like in Liberia ,Nova Scotia ,France and Sierra Leone.
Political Movements
The Great Migration had a quantity of governments, the most featured were the Nationalist Black Power ,Capitalism, Conservatism , Populism , Leftism.
Conclusions
We learned the characteristics and causes of the Great Migration. We could see that momentum reasons black people to move north, we saw that Chicago was the birthplace of the great migration along with other U.S. cities. We knew their customs, their languages and their ways of governing
