Endurance test glass beads
1. Test planning
1.1 Basic information
Project: Dauertest Glasperlen
Process, devices Suspension Injection | System: 170/10
Pressure [bar] 120 bar
Abrasive (type, size) Al2O3 Garnet glassbeads | Mesh size: 0 - 50µm
Abrasive perc. [m%] Ca. 5%
Nozzle (type, size) Fanjet nozzle 0.76 x 40°
Handling devices yes, type: Kuka KR 3 no (manual trial))
1.2 Test descriptio
By using Suspension Technology, a stainless steel plate was blasted with glass beads and a
stand-off distance of approx. 50mm for an extended time in a closed loop. By analysing the glass
beads optically by a microscope after defined intervals the wear on the beads was determined.
1.3 Parameter
Pressure: 120bar
Stand-off distance: 50mm
Suspension perc.: 5%
Abrasive media: Glass beads 0 – 50 µm

2.2 Conclusion
The optical investigation confirms that the glass beads are not fragmented. On the basis of the
surveying photos before and after the blasting no difference in the grain size distribution could
be determined.
