Comprehensive Energy Management Program

An effective energy management plan will involve a company wide commitment to change the way you think about your business. Change doesn’t occur overnight, and to succeed, it requires senior management at the helm to shape and support an energy management culture from the top down.

Once management commitment is established, an Enbridge Energy Solutions Consultant (ESC) can provide support for employee engagement activities by means of:

• Energy saving posters and digital communications

• Funding for and assistance planning energy events or celebrations

• Recognition for employees who achieve energy efficiency objectives

Whether for environmental stewardship, emission reduction or cost savings purposes, managing energy is becoming increasingly important in industrial settings.

Succeeding in energy management requires the ability to set the right strategy and make it happen. Enbridge Gas Distribution’s Comprehensive Energy Management (CEM) Program is designed to help you do just that. Through the program, you will gain a better understanding of your key energy drivers so you can shape your energy goals and set the right strategy.

The program will also help you “make it happen” by ensuring you put an action plan in place that is flexible and responsive enough to withstand changing business conditions.

* Additional Enbridge incentives are available as part of other Enbridge programs, and additional Terms and Conditions apply to each such incentive.

** Subject to the restrictions set out in the Terms and Conditions for the “Industrial Energy Assessment” Enbridge Program.

The CEM program focuses on five main components:

An energy policy is a formal written statement of your organization’s commitment to energy management. The document serves as a public expression of your corporate sustainability values, objectives and targets. It also functions as a working document that guides your energy management practices to provide clarity, assign accountability and ensure continuity so that you can achieve your short and long-term energy goals.

Enbridge will:

• Provide an energy policy template to help shape goals and priorities, if needed, and

• Guide you through the policy creation process

• Free services to identify key energy drivers

• Incentives to support installation and updates to EMIS - up to 80% of the cost to a maximum of $40,000 per project

• Technical support to identify areas of opportunities;

• Funding and support for events and training to empower and engage employees working towards energy saving goals

The Energy Champion(s) should have direct knowledge of the organization’s major energy using systems. They are responsible for maintaining corporate focus by identifying, monitoring, tracking and managing energy efficiency initiatives.

Your Enbridge Energy Solutions Consultant can:

• Act as a member of the Team of Energy Champions

• Provide technical knowledge and assistance to the Energy Champion and/or Team

In order to achieve significant energy savings, you must first identify your key energy drivers. Our ESC will work with you to develop an energy model based on your operation, to help identify these energy drivers.

More complex sites may require implementation of an Energy Management Information System (EMIS). A good EMIS system should collect sufficient information to allow you to build a statistically valid model that can pinpoint where at least 90% of the energy you consume comes from.

Enbridge’s CEM program will:

• Help identify the type of EMIS system that would work best within your facility

• Connect you with third party vendors who can supply EMIS systems

• Provide access to Enbridge incentives to fund up to 80% of the cost of an EMIS system to a maximum of $40,000 per project*

After your organization has completed the first four components of the CEM plan, your ESC will assess your data and work with you to implement the following continuous energy improvement approach in order to achieve your corporate objectives.

Continuous Energy Improvement Approach:

Knowledge Development Opportunity Identification

Measurement Engineering Analysis

Action and Implementation

Senior Management Sponsorship

Energy Policy Creation

Energy Champion Assignment

Energy Model Development

Continuous Energy Improvement

• Thermal energy audits – up to 50% of the cost**

• Implementation of thermal energy efficiency projects – up to 50% of the cost to a maximum of $100,000 per project

Please speak with your ESC about additional incentives that may be available as a result of behavioural/operational changes.
