44th Annual President’s AssociatesRecognition Dinner
EMPOWER • INSPIRE • DISCOVER
Each year, funds raised through
the generous contributions
of the President’s Associates
provide exceptional CSUB
students with the opportunity
to participate in the Student
Research Scholars (SRS)
Program. Based on scores
of a competitive application
process, the highest-ranking
students are awarded a $2,000
stipend to perform graduate
level research with guidance
from a CSUB faculty mentor
through the SRS program.
2013-2014 STUDENT RESEARCH SCHOLARS
Joe BaalThis project focuses on
investigating the effects of microbial antagonists on the
growth of the Valley Fever fungus in its natural habitat.
Christine ChoiThis research project was a comparative policy analysis
of elder abuse in the US and Australia.
Robert BassettThis project focused on classify-ing all normal subgroups of A5
w, since recent results have shown
that there is a non-measurable subset of a quotient group, its
inverse image with respect to the quotient homomorphism is a non-measurable of the original group.
Nicole BlackhawkPopulations of Giant Kangaroo
Rats have suffered from habitat fragmentation and isolation over recent years. Seven populations
were trapped and genetically analyzed to determine the
populations’ structure.
Stephanie CaffeeThis research sets out to determine the mineralogy
and lithology of Oligocene Sandstones of the Rio
Bravo oil field to determine the reservoir suitability for
sequestration of CO2.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT2013-2014 STUDENT RESEARCH SCHOLARS
Jonathan A. GoodellThis project seeks to assess the
feasibility of a long term CO2 storage project which will allow both enhanced oil recovery and
help to mitigate local air pollution in the San Joaquin Valley by
building a reservoir model of the Stevens sandstone.
Ana Sofia Pottella Perez
Prepared molecules with the capability to inhibit LOX, an enzyme that is linked to the spread of
cancer to a new part of the body.
Maria de Carmen- Guzman
An odontometric analysis asking if the Baltis ethnic group of Gilgit-Baltistan,
Northern Pakistan is a biologically meaningful
population.
Madison SmithUse of solubility tags
in order to increase the solubility of Lysyl Oxidase
to synthesize a crystal structure.

Analysis of vettebrate remains covered during
the 1980 excavation of Tel El Hibeh, Middle Egypt.
Evan MacKinnonIn order to guide weak
management and conservation in the
San Joaquin Valley, this project studied the trait
comparisons between native annual species and an
invasive grass.
Megan SmithEvaluation of the role of disulfide cross linkages
in Lysyl Oxidase via site-directed mutagenesis.
Jeffrey ParkerThis project shows the Pirate
Spiders pattern of species distribution both on either
side of and across the Sierra Nevada Mountains using
statistical techniques based on change in their DNA between
individuals and populations.
Marta PercollaComparative wood
porosity in stems and roots of different
species and in response to wounding.
