Mark 10:27 The children learned it at Vacation Bible School, and now we are going to have it before us throughout the year. Why? Because all things ARE possible with God. The point is simply that all things are possible, but rather that we are meant to be with God. For it is there that we find nothing that is able to keep us from going where He is leading. Sunday School/First Communion/Confirmation/ Youth Group begin September 9ages 2.5high school will beginning gathering each Sunday from 9:45-10:45am. Adult Bible Study9:45am every Sunday September 9Special Guest: Tina Jasion, who was just recently installed as LINC Director (here at Emmanuel) will lead us in a Bible Study on what it means to have a “personal testimony of faith”. Don’t miss this special opportunity! September 16 and following: The Bible and the City and You will be our topic as we take a look at what the Word says about the urban area, and how that relates to us in our lives today. All are welcome! Bible Reading Schedule12 in 12 for 2012 Join the congregation in reading 12 books of the Bible over the twelve months of 2012. The year’s schedule will be as follows: Sept: James Oct: Hebrews Nov: Ephesians Dec: Luke Here are some suggestions: Read daily, but at your own pace. Repeat book as necessary (As a shorter book, you may be able to read through it several times.) Engage with others about what you read. Read prayerfully (listen to what the Lord is actually saying through his work to you) New Members This summer we welcomed into membership Mitch and Sushma Schull with their baby Sakshi; Richard and Sally Foks; and Aaron Foks. The Schull’s, having moved from Boston, live in Columbia where Sushma is a pharmacist with CVS and Mitch is a research physical scientist with USDA-ARS. The Foks’ live in Catonsville where Rich is a machine repair machinist and Sally works for the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland. Aaron (son of Rich and Sally) has two children of his own, Ava and Kyle, and recently completed barber school. We are thrilled to have them as part of our Emmanuel fellowship. Our next new member class will begin in September. Young(er) Adult Gathering, part 2Sept 8 @ 4pm Our fellowship team, led by James Corey, is inviting all of our younger adults (20s and 30s “ish”?) to another bbq at Pastor Martin’s house. Please let James or Pastor know that you are coming. Parish Nurse Our parish nurse, Jeana Lovelace, RN, will be providing free blood pressure screening after both worship services on September 9. Would you or someone you know like a visit from our parish nurse? Call the church office and leave a message for Jeana.

Thank you from Del Riemer Our retired minister of education, Del Riemer, expressed his extreme thankfulness to the congregation for his retirement celebration, the gift card, the shepherd’s staff, and the monetary gift at the end of June. Thanks! Thank you from Amah Family Betty Amah and family express their deep thanks for all of the prayers and support of the congregation on behalf of her daughter Victoria during her health crisis. Victoria is continuing to do well without the need for further medication. Please continue to keep her in prayer as she continues through physical therapy.

Witnessing (Team Leader: Dave Post)

Monthly Witnessing Opportunities Some of the many witnessing opportunities include: the Westside Homeless Shelter -providing a dessert or casserole (sign up at the Welcome Center), donating men’s clothing (place in bin near offices), washing the feet of men at the shelter every month; at Johnnycake Elementary School-volunteer in the classroom, in the office, or in the library for a couple hours a week; at Augsburg Lutheran Home-spending time with the residents, playing games, answering phones or collating papers; at BARCS animal shelter or donating non-perishable food items for the church pantry or volunteering at our school or … Emmanuel Lutheran School New computers, new sinks, new white boards, new interactive technology, and of course new teachers—with more newness on the way! This year promises to be exciting as—but mainly because it is providing another opportunity to share the love of Christ as we teach the wonderful students we have. Gift from Al Stiegler’s Estate We express thanks to the Lord for the generosity of Al Stiegler who left just under $10,000 from his estate to Emmanuel, which in consultation with the family will be a great help in our general fund.
