Vegetable Club Celebration The Eminence Elementary School Veggie Club celebrated the completion of the school year on Monday with a feast. Many parents came and enjoyed sandwiches, pizza, and ice cream with their students to celebrate the occasion. As members of the “Vegetable Club”, students ate whatever fruit and vegetable that was served each school day at lunch, for the entire school year. The students were monitored throughout the year and succeeded in this major accomplishment. The “Vegetable Club” tries to get children to try different things and emphasizes the importance of healthy eating habits. As a reward to the students, they were promised ‘no vegetables’ at the celebration by Mr. Doran . There were plenty of refreshments and a good time was had by all in the Chill E Pepper Café! Mystery Pellets This week, 4th graders in Miss Lewis’ class solved a mystery! Students observed objects what they thought were found by a farmer on his farm nearby. Their mission was to investigate and observe the mystery objects to determine their origin. Students were sure that they were waste products of an animal (YUCK!). Their thinking was challenged when they observed bones, feathers, and fur in the objects and read a book to collect information. Students discovered that the objects were owl pellets- the bones, fur, and feathers of the animals an owl eats and cannot digest! They then dissected the owl pellets and sorted the bones found inside to determine the type of animals the owl ate. Students discovered the skulls, jaws, ribs, vertebrae and
other bones of rodents, shrews, moles, and birds! It was such an exciting learning experience! Ask a 4th grader you know to tell you about it!
